I initially joined Starling as I was going on holiday and it meant that I didn't need to worry about changing any money beforehand. Everything worked really well, you just need to make sure that you always choose to withdraw money in the local currency when prompted as Starling's conversion is great. I am now considering moving to them entirely. Also joining was so very easy that it seemed too good to be true, with my card arriving just 3 days later. I have already got friends to join and they have been equally impressed.

This is the most disgusting bank I've ever had to deal with.... Everything is nice and jolly till you want access to your own money and it becomes a tag of war. The claim they have a relevant team which investigates the account and they've had my account restricted for over a month now. I have sent them all the information they requested for and yet they are unable to conclude their investigations to let me have access to my money. This "irrelevant" team will send me emails with a totally different name and will sometimes copy and paste their emails without even checking for the mistakes or the names in the email. Appalling!!!

Left my high street bank after getting a Starling account. Doubt i will go back to a physical branch again. So far i have been very impressed. Opening the account was very quick and hassle free and the convenience of doing this from home was great. My card arrived within 2 days and was easy to activate from the app and also set my own pin without having to go to a cash point was so convenient too. Many great features to the account and i would definitely recommend this bank.

Please think carefully about moving to this bank, much of what they do is hype. If you actually need customer support be prepared to be on chat for hours and never expect a response fro there messaging service.

DO NOT BANK HERE AT STARLING !!! WORST BANK IN THE HISTORY OF BANKING WORST BANK IN THE HISTORY OF BANKING. DAY 3 of opening this business account and I am embarrassed to say this is one of the worst decisions I have ever made. Closed my account with Santander to move across and money paid in no problem . They didnt offer a savings account so I held of closing Santander savings account with lump sum to move across later . 24 hours later I tried to make a payment from funds in the account . Guess what I couldn't !! Panic mode sets in . Messaged their customer service team . I honestly thought I was talking to someone in a boiler room running a ponzi scheme but basically they had to raise to another team to investigate and this would be resolved asap. This is the basics of banking (money in and money out). 24 hours later and no contact from Starling . I messaged again and this time I get James who I am convinced is on his first week of work experience . The rep couldnt be ruder if he tried . "I cant tell you more someone will comeback to you when they get a chance to review" ! Seriously when they get a chance ? Off playing golf I presume ! Anyway its Monday morning and I have work to do -so I leave it. 4-5 hours later this time I get Daniel . At this point I am annoyed and he fuels the situation - I ask him to initiate an account closure and for him to confirm I'll get my money returned to Santander . He says - hopefully I will get my money back . Hopefully ???? Who are these people and what have I done ? A part of me is still convinced this is a boiler room scam and the FSA have by mistake given them a banking licence . Word of caution. There is a reason its free banking ! Imagine you have move complex business needs - you will up sh**ts creek without a pole. The directors will get filthy rich , some personal and business clients will have a hard time dealing with this bank and get into significant trouble , some may lose a tonne of money. A banking disaster is around the corner with these guys. For now I am off to raise a complaint with the FSA and beg Santander to re-open my business account. Lesson to self - stick with a big bank.

Had issues with unauthorised payment taken this morning. Rude advisor and now told can't do anything til Monday. Cant speak to a manager either. 24/7 Bank? Rubbish of you need real help after 5pm Friday. Avoid if possible

Was unhappy with services being provided by a high street bank so after some research I opened an account with Starling Bank. From moment of application it only took 2 hours to get a sort code and account number. Quick and easy transfers makes it so easy to use. Would highly recommend.

I have left my previous bank (First Direct) after 30 years and have been tremendously impressed - almost excited - by Starling Bank. The app on which you control your banking is fantastic. It’s intuitive, 100% user friendly and you are utterly in control. I love the real time notifications that come through for every transaction made. My only criticism is that Starling don’t issue cheques. I still use cheques about 6 times a year and I do hope they will address this gap.

Absolutely appalling handling of the government backed bounce back loan. I have been banking with them for almost 2 years and I have been chasing the bounce back loan for 3 months and all I am told is we can't give you an answer on when you will get an invitation to apply for the loan. Staling opened up to new customers and have obviously thrown their existing under the bus.

I sent all the documents they said I need ID CART RESIDENT ..... which I do not need to have ... ... it's a waste of time for this bank !!!!! they don't take people seriously !!!! it's not a bank for Europe ... !!!!!

I just switched to Starling from TIDE and embarrassed at how long I have spent with TIDE. Starling is an incredible company, refreshing seamless experience, all the features I had wished for already exist... very very happy... looking forward to a long and continuous relationship.

After having my account approved, weeks later I still can't use my account! Ringing them, you just get told that the technical team will email you within the next few days. 3 weeks and I'm still waiting for an email. If you want to open a bank account for your new business, then look somewhere else.

Worst business bank I have ever been with, customers struggling to pay in, cheques greeting declined because customers slightly miss spelt our name thousands of pounds of revenue not able to get in bank because we moved here. Can't wait till account switch. Wouldn't recommed to any fast pace business that requires regular bacs payments

Initially I was reluctant to use an online only bank, but after experiencing the go slow pace of two major High Street banks in trying to open an account, I was amazed by the speed of answering the calls and the time taken to open the account. Will definitely be recommending Starling Bank to others.

An absolutely fantastic bank if you don’t have any problems, but as soon as fraud happens (which it did to me) you have to wait a week for anyone to get back to you, another week for your funds to be returned, and I have still not heard any reasoning for all this.. I also applied for a business bounce back loan, whilst my brother applied through Barclays and got accepted and sent the monies for his company within 3 hours, I am 6 days on, and still nothing, just a computer generated response in the email. The app is honestly great, but the “bank” is honestly shocking. Stick with a bank where you can actually organise a meeting with a human. What also surprises me is they only reply to the good reviews - which tells me they’re all fake..

Very impressed with this. Dragging banking into the 21st century. Just opened a personal account and love the saving goals feature which allows me to earmark money without having to open multiple accounts. Just waiting on opening a business account for my limited company and looking forward to seeing what it can do.

I have just opened a personal and business account with Starling Bank. I am slightly concerned reading reviews that a lot of accounts are frozen and funds are withheld. The set up was very easy and I didn’t have any issues. I am hoping that when the cards arrive that I will be able to activate them easily and transfer some money into the accounts without hassle. I am hoping my husband and I can transfer our accounts after never ending problems with high street banks. Fingers crossed it all goes well

Can make payments. Already approved in app, still got blocked for no reasons. Telling people contacting customer service is a joke, 79 in the queue. By the time they reply you won't see them then bye bye to you.

Connected with customer service via chat as was interested in opening a personal and business account. It emerged during the conversation that the agent could not tell me how long after opening a personal account that I would be able to open a business account. Said they had huge demand for these accounts and had suspended applications at one stage and were now rolling them out again slowly. This is not the answer you want to hear when starting up a new business. If they struggle to meet demand and there is so much unemployment right now, why are they not hiring more staff to cope with increased demand for business accounts? The agent’s lack of knowledge about how long it would take before I had the option of opening a business account means I am not at all confident in this bank, despite reading good things about them in the past. At least they should make it clear on their website if a product is unlikely to be available for some time - that would save potential customers a lot of time. Will be looking for a different bank for my business needs.

I have to say Starling make the whole experience different, from how you apply for an account, receive your different looking bank card to how you handle money. I’ve read some of the reviews about frozen accounts, but from what I can see it looks to be genuine fraud prevention which has to be a good thing. I’ve only had the account for a short while, originally to make use of the free usage abroad. Had to use customer services yesterday for the first time and was happy with the outcome. Time will tell if the issues with frozen accounts turn out to be genuine but my experience so far is excellent.

Unfortunately I can't tell anything good about Starling Bank ????.I have applied with the personal account . I have sent to them seven Yes SEVEN!!! DIFFERENT PROOFS OF MY ADDRESS!!! and the customer service still keeps me saying i need to send a proof where I live ????.Ridiculous!!!. I have applied for personal account as I would like to have buisness account. Have buisness account with natwest since 2009.

Firstly one star is to much. Secondly look at the amount of 5 star reviews on google and other sites such as trust pilot that are from one time reviewers giving them a full 5 star rating, this is totally unnatural. The company is clearly designed for new businesses who have little to no business banking experience. The application process is horrific and they have absolutely no need to be asking the questions they do or for you to supply the information requested. I would suggest that any serious business avoid them and goto a mainstream bank, you will undoubtedly save yourself a lot of time in the process.

I tried to open a business account as I’ve just set up my own business. The further questions that I was asked were ridiculous! After 2 days of trying to appease the powers to be I gave up and opened a Tide account instead in 5 minutes! Not impressed Sterling bank!

Absolute shambles customer service stinks, get my card activated via the app and added online purchases and card is declined everywhere contact the bank and no one knows why! new bank new staff that ain't got a clue stick to the high street banks atleast you can pop in and talk to them and get the problem sorted straight away...unlike this bank that ain't sure what they are actually doing.....shame seem like it had great reviews most probably the staff writing the reviews to get people to sign up to them.

Absolutely fantastic. I switched over to starling last year, and since then, my wife has joined and we also have a joint account with then. Not once have we had any issues, and the few questions we've had, we're all answered promptly by customer services. Worth noting as well, is we have always got through to someone in a matter of minutes. Never have we been on long holds to get through. Never again will we consider traditional high Street banks, they simply can't touch the standard set by Starling!

What a load of fake reviews!! Very predictable with this so-called 'bank', they really have no care for customers. So obviously won't do anything to improve how there are, just place fake reviews. Very disgusting behaviour. I've made 2 complaints and they've gone absolutely nowhere. They don't have your back, it's you against them. Rather than help you and act on your behalf as your bank, which is how my main bank acts. One was a highly valid chargeback request and another was their inability to deal with wire transfers. They merely fob you off and tell you to complain to the ombudsman. You spend weeks dealing with it and they do nothing basically. Absolutely shocking.

Great app and excellent value when traveling abroad, which was my primary reason for opening the account. One card can be switched between Sterling and Euro accounts, so funding and using a Euro account is dead simple. However, you do need to keep an eye on the transactions as the system does not always reflect reality. Two examples: 1. We spent £150 in a restaurant and the transaction appeared at first but then disappeared. It then went through again about a week later. Apparently this was down to the merchant, but it would be handy to have had it appear as a pending item rather than just disappearing altogether. 2. Filled the car with fuel via Pay at Pump, which cost £43.11. Transaction appeared as £30. The day after the correct amount appeared as an additional charge, so at present my account has been debited by £73.11. I imagine the £30 was a "holding" amount as with Pay at Pump the card is authorised before the transaction is finished. I am confident this will be sorted out, but I won't be transferring all my banking to Starling any time soon as I feel I need to check all transactions all the time.

Having been an account holder for over a year, I wanted to open a new account for a new business. Starling completely wasted my time. They said the account was open, that I should delete and reinstall the app, then it wasn't open. In the end I opened an account with an alternative bank in under 5 minutes. Staff are poorly trained and unhelpful.

I've never felt the need to leave a review on either a bank account or an app before. But I have been so happy since I got Starling. It's so simple and easy to use. I love the different pots of money you can save separately. Every time I have ever got in touch with their customer services they've been brilliant. Best bank account I've had. Love the non fees when paying abroad too. I've managed to get one of my friends to get an account with them too ????

Pretty rubbish business banking experience. Tried to open a business open - on the app. Uploaded everything. Next, Starling needs a "business plan" and "why do you need an account". Do that, they takes ages and turn down the application for "business reasons". Applied to TSB on the same day, account was opened the next day. These new "challenger" banks do seem to be a challenge on the IQ most of the times. The older banks may be hapless in the service / facility offering, but these newer challenger banks don't appear to be managed by professionals who can answer the question "why" five times in succession. Will steer clear now.
