1 hour waiting on the phone to call customer service, not even going to bother. Especially since reading all of these reviews. Improve your service model - how many other customers have you lost? No way am I trusting my business and my money when it takes me over an hour just to get to a human for support. Awful.

Fine for 'basic' online banking. But if you want to chaps a large sum of money to a solicitors client acc via chaps, then you are stuffed. I was 106th in the queue on their online chat. I wasted an entire afternoon trying to do a chaps. They still failed to do it that day. They say on their tv ads that they help business soar. Well quite frankly my business was held back by their diabolical customer service. Avoid this bank if you have transactions or business needs which are anything but very simple. If you need to transact in larger sums, then expect them to restrict you from transferring your own money. I needed to transfer money to a solicitor for a property purchase. I wasted 4 hours trying to get them to do it. Now I risk not completing on time on my property purchase. Very disappointed. Will be looking at moving to a serious bank

I had been with starling for around about a year, my friend then sent me some money and then starling locked my card asking me to provide them with photos of my friends card which is an outrageous request. If you contact customer service they are less than useless in helping to resolve the matter and no one provides you with a time frame of how long you will be held hostage. I finally managed to get my card back after making a formal complaint and then taking that to the FCA, if you want a bank that makes your life easy then don’t go to starling they are nothing but a headache.

How much information does this bank require. I've set up a limited company but not started trading yet. It's a new start up, no customers as yet so I can't supply invoices or signed contracts. Business plan is basic. I've waited over a week and no account set up yet. I will probably try Tide online banking as their set up seems a little easier. I don't want to borrow money, I just want to start trading. Not happy FINALLY got everything sorted out. Brand new account. Thinking about things they need to make sure I'm not money laundering or doing anything else illegal

Mickey mouse bank. Thought would try them for a business account. Run three profitable businesses already. They keep asking for more information about the start up. They are clearly struggling with volume of applications. Avoid, massive time wasters

I have received an worst service from the bank like my account has been blocked in October with 500£ from then onwards the are not unlocking my account after submission of required documents as well and every month the monthly charges are deducting but not giving access to my money. Randomly the are doing for some people who is having money in their account and stealing that money moreover the are not giving permission to close the account as-well so be careful while using this bank

With regret, these guys were once so good, and probably still are for simple personal banking. I have used them as a personal customer for 2 years - they have been superb. This last week, I tried to open a limited company business account with them. After many hours of incompetent nonsense, I give up. They wasted many days of my time. It's over, the company biz goes elsewhere. I will keep my personal account there. Clearly they are new to this company biz area and they haven't debugged their system yet.

Nice digital experience - not suited if trying to make large payments. The customer service just doesn't work - you need an account manager who has at least some power. Keep talking to people who can do nothing...it's so much bloody work just to make a payment. Result is, missed deadlines with repercussions across the business due to Starling.

In 2021 a branchless bank unable to verify identity of a clear picture of a driving licence. Huge dissapointment, rather cancelled my application, will look for an actuall bank.

Please be careful with this App Banking. And please be very careful with those 5 stars - could be misleading. It is very convenient it’ll it works, fast, simple and efficient. But if you got a question or issue you might be on your very own. Tell you a real experience: if you got a real question or issue you will NOT any any real service. You would not be able to call through, and you will not be chat with a helpful person. For past few days I opened an US dollar businesses account but my client cannot pay me with ICH routing - they just need to know the Swift/BIC code, and I tried many approaches over many days just can’t get through to a useful person to get it. A”Daniel” in the chat told me twice Starling Bank USD account doesn’t have IBAN or Swift number. How untrue could it be. Until today finally I figured it out myself by trying a test payment to this account, and found it’s a bank registered in Jamaica, pretending to have a New York Address shown in its Account Details. Starling even charges 5 pounds a month for this US account which it’s own staff doesn’t know how to find a SWIFT number for itself. Appalling customer service - useless and stressful - wholly 100% depending on you the customer’s DIY capability. That’s going to be what you get from this sort of App Banking. Be prepared mentally and know what you are expecting wince you got an issue. I believe Starling does have real person to massage this google review page, but it’s chat room it’s more likely Daniel style chatbot, not the best AI NLU model for sure.

Great for personal accounts. With business accounts would be fine if a sole trader but with book keepers not able to access it is super frustrating as only one person has access. Second big issue is the lack of support around bounce back loans. We tried to apply and they said we couldnt because one of our team applied for another business even though completely seperate. We have tried to contact and get help but noone understands the issue or seems to even care. Shame as think their vision is great.

It all works OK until you need their support, they don't answer massages in a reasonable timescale, and I have been left waiting for ages on the telephone, its a shame a new online bank that seems to have so much right allows its customer service to fail it...

The worst bank ever. I have a very active business account with them . I applied for government bounce back loan for my business . That on 3rd of July 2020. I am still waiting to be invited. The worst customer service I have seen too .they have no respect for customers.called their customer service line and asked if they have any news. They told you are still in waiting list we will contact you once we have processed your application. That was 3 months ago. It is a shame for your bank in these struggling times we should help each other but you have proved just the opposite. You are not a bank for people .

Amazed at how difficult and inflexible this organisation is to work with. Amongst other things my colleague spent 45 minutes waiting on the phone with a query. All this is just to set up a perfectly legitimate new business account. Heaven knows how difficult they would be to resolve an issue!

Not worth the effort. Total waste of time. I bank with two high street banks and thought I'd give Starling a go for my business accounts as they offer a 'free' account - that was a mistake! I jumped through all their hoops giving detailed answers to all their questions and they keep replying and re-asking the same questions (they clearly don't read the answers provided, or don't understand English). They also say they are UK based yet I get notifications in the app from them at 3am wanting more information about my application?! That is not UK hours! Four days later and I still haven't managed to open a business account for what is a very simple UK based business. How do they expect to compete with the incumbents when they are this slow an inefficient? Maybe they will improve in the future but it is not worth wasting your time with them at this stage. Read the other reviews and you will see many horror stories of peoples experiences with Starling. I would not recommend using them.

Diré. Only giving 1 star as it’s not possible to give zero. I’ve never had to sue a bank before to get access to my funds. That’s right, I commenced County Court action against Starling. Only then did I get my money back. Avoid at all costs. Ps - now doubt there’ll be the usual “empty” response from Starling. Have a look at the rest of the 1 star reviews.

Customer service is non existent. More like dealing with a person with an underdeveloped ego. Rather than trying to solve your problem - they'll plough their efforts into telling you why they're right and you're wrong. Update: My problem was eventually resolved by the financial ombudsman. Who confirmed that Starling were wrong.

I switched bank account to move to Starling a few months ago. The switch was all taken care of and I was very happy with the app, which is very user friendly and super efficient. But after the first month when everything went well, my main direct debit for my mortgage stopped working with no apparent reason. It's now been 3 months that my direct debit is still not working and that I have to make my mortgage payment late and over the phone. With my building society, we have sent two new mandates to try and restore the direct debit. On both occasions, it got sent back by Starling stating that the reference was already set up in my account. All this when Starling had instructed me to delete that reference in my scheduled payments, the first time I reported the problem and which I did. Now I'm trying to get answers from Starling to understand why my main and most important direct debit stopped working all of sudden; why the new mandate on two occasions was not processed and bounced back; if they can sort it out. So far I haven't had any satisfying answer. It even seems that they don't have an accurate record of what happened with my account, as they are now saying that they didn't receive new mandates from my Building Society, when both me and my Building Society have paper trail of the mandates being sent twice and of Starling two replies. What is going on? I have to say that I am extremely disappointed and worried to see that my bank has no solution to a basic problem which shouldn't have happened in the first place, as well as has no accurate record of what happens with my bank account. My mortgage payment is the most important payment that needs to get out of my bank account in a timely and secure manner on a monthly basis. It's now been 3 months that it hasn't been the case for me. This is a basic and key service that my bank should be providing without any problems. I am seriously thinking of changing bank account once again, if this issue cannot be solved as soon as possible.

Having being with RBS since 2004 I recently took the bank swap to the co-operative Bank, what a mistake. Found out afterwards they the co-op don't have business account support by app, and it can't be integrated into accounting software. After a little research opted for starling bank, applied on Sunday morning, by the evening I'd got a personal account, business account up and running, also integrated into Freeagent seamlessly. With the bonus that it's immediate updates so I don't need to wait for bank feeds overnight. I get notifications immediately if any transaction in or out. By the Wednesday I'd received my bank card, which was impressive as it was also a bank holiday on the Monday Absolutely first rate. Thanks starling bank.

I have just opened a business account with Starling I was well impressed, very responsive in no time, efficient and simple process, and a big bonus is you can speak to the local operators. It can't be easier and simpler than this. Forget about these big boys high street banks like HSBC, Barclays etc. we have tried to open an account with the high street bank since April, until now still haven't managed to get hold of any one who can help. Thank you starling bank

I love banking with Starling, a slick amazing app and a simply beautiful card. And no fees for using your card abroad! I also use the business account, I think it is the only UK bank to offer free business banking. I'm convinced this is the best UK bank.

Terrible terrible terrible account opening experience. One of the worst organisations with ego-fuelled employees. I have responded to EVERY question they have asked so far with exactly the information they've asked for... but, every 3-4 days (yeah... that's how long it takes them to respond), they reply back with the SAME questions they asked previously. They now want an invoice from a supplier... how the hell is a new company/business going to get a supplier invoice when they don't have a bloody account to pay the supplier from!?! Called up the bank and spoke to Gina after waiting for 11 minutes - only to encounter yet another extremely rude employee on an ego-trip! If you're looking for a GOOD bank - STAY CLEAR OF STARLING !

Shocking service from this bank. Limiting your money and taking for ever to sort it out, when calling into the call centre and trying to organise the limit increase you get fogged off with excuses and when asking to speck to someone who can organise it they hang up. Ill be moving bank asap. Do not use this bank the ciustomer service is terrible.

Pretty good, almost perfect BUT if you're a business that purchases from outside the UK, you may struggle to pay suppliers in their preferred currencies. I found out I can only send the domestic currency, for example a supplier in Hungary wanted paying in Euros, their domestic currency is HUF. It wasn't possible to make payment to them in anything other than the HUF using my starling business bank account.

STARLING BANK IS THE WORST BANK IN (UK). I WAS TRYING TO SET UP A NEW SINGLE PAYEE ON MY ACCOUNT FOR £100.00, UNFORTUNATELY THEY DON’T ALLOW ME TO, I THEN PHONE THEM, I WAS KEPT ON HOLD, THEN I RECEIVED A MESSAGE THAT MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN RESTRICTED, I THEN HANG OFF THE PHONE AND RESPONDED TO THE MESSAGE WHY DID THEY PUT A RESTRICTION ON MY ACCOUNT AND THEY REPLIED BY ASKING ME AMAZING QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE NEVER BEING ASKED BEFORE FROM MY OTHER BANKS ACCOUNT I HAVE WITH NATWEST, NATIONWIDE, HALIFAX AND SANTANDER FOR OVER 27 YEARS, WHEN EVER THEY PUT A RESTRICTION ON MY ACCOUNT FOR SETTING UP A NEW PAYEES OR FOR ANY OTHER REASONS. WHEN EVER THERE IS A RESTRICTION ON MY OTHER BANKS ACCOUNT, AS SOON I CONTACT THEM AND PASSED ALL THERE SECURITY QUESTIONS THE RESTRICTION WILL BE LIFTED WITHIN LESS THAN FIVE MINUTE. UNFORTUNATELY, STARLING BANK DID NOT ASKED ME ANY SECURITY QUESTIONS, INSTEAD THEY WERE ASKING ME WHO IS THE PERSON I WANTED TO SET UP A NEW PAYEE TO, HOW DID I KNEW THE PERSON, SINCE HOW LONG I KNEW THE PERSON, WHY DID I WANTED TO SEND £100.00 TO THE PERSON, I TOLD THEM I OWE THE PERSON MONEY, GUESS WHAT THEY ASKED ME TO EXPLAINED WHAT IS THE LOAN FOR AND ETC AFTER ANSWERING ALL THERE AMAZING QUESTIONS FOR OVER 24 HOURS, GUESS WHAT AGAIN THEY REPLIED ME WITH ANOTHER AMAZING QUESTIONS. I THEN WENT TO WRITE MY EXPERIENCE WITH STARLING BANK TO TRUSTPILOT WEBSITE, BECAUSE I NEEDED MONEY FROM MY STARLING ACCOUNT TO BUY DIAPERS, FOOD, TOP UP MY ELECTRICITY AND GAS FOR MY FAMILY. STARLING BANK CONTACTED ME THAT SOMETHING HAS COME TO THERE ATTENTION NOW, THAT THEY WILL BE CLOSING MY ACCOUNT WITHIN TWO WEEKS TIME THAT THEY HAVE LIFTED THE RESTRICTION ON MY ACCOUNT NOW AND I SHOULD WITHDRAW ALL MY MONEY FROM THE ACCOUNT BEFORE 14 DAYS, IF I DO NOT MY MONEY WILL BE TRANSFER TO THERE CHARITY ACCOUNT. I HAVE REPORTED STARLING BANK TO THE FINANCIAL OMBUDSMAN SERVICE TO LOOK AT THE WAY I WAS BEING TREATED AND I WANTED STARLING BANK TO COMPENSATE ME FOR, THERE BAD AND PREJUDICE CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ME.

I was really keen to start my Starling account as I had read some great stuff about them as a bank. Unfortunately my experience has not reflected that at all. They decided to freeze my account due to a so called 'suspicious' payment, therefore not allowing me access to my own hard earned money for 5 weeks. As you can imagine this was really difficult to live with and put my health and wellbeing at risk. If this had happened with my other bank, I know it would have been sorted within a few days. Starling were extremely unsympathetic and unresponsive to all of my efforts to resolve the issue. It was only after I made an official complaint with the Financial Ombudsman Service that they decided to take the matter seriously. Thankfully I had funds in my other bank account therefore I was able to survive through this period. I will be closing my account as soon as possible.

Starling customer service staff have abused their power too long. I will be leaving and going full steam ahead with inquieries regarding their all of a sudden policies. Apparently they can take £30 and hold until a payment finishes pending even though the payment was for only £15.00. I had the money in my account and it came out instantly this was at tesco pay at pump. I put in £15.00 and to my surprise as this has never happened to me before £30.00 came out my account as soon as i put the pump down. Polocy is rubbish needs removingnits fraud

Please read if your'e considering the move its not a rant its me spreading real feedback. I'm an ongoing victim of fraud that has cost me up to £200 over the period of two months and I still haven't got my money back. Best responses I've had from customer services is a reply to my emails 6 days later at best and when I call them directly they tell you the fraud department don't speak directly to customers. "Please just be patient and wait for an email back etc.". Customer service spend more time asking me questions than giving me valid advice on how to move forward, I often wonder at times if I should be advising them. My initial idea was to completely close my bank account not out of spite but to stop any future fraudulent transactions but apparently a closed account could still go into arrears even though its closed. Starling said if i did close the account the arrears could leave to possible fines and bank charges even though the charges would be due to fraudulent transactions anyway. Go figure. Would never have this problem with HSBC, Lloyds, Natwest or any other well established high street bank. As a heads up don't be fooled by the fancy app like I was, Ive just had to spend the best part of a day transferring all my direct debits over to a different bank account because starling cant seem to stop a fraudulent merchant from taking money from my account as soon as my wages deposit. Said merchant know the activity of my account somehow to the point where £100 cannot sit in there for longer than 30 minutes before they debit some of it. Im aware of it and so is starling but somehow I'm here alone in it all wondering if I'm ever going to get the money back because I cant even get a response from customer services. I think whats happening here is we have an inferior product in great packaging i.e the starling app. It sort of lures you into a false sense of security so everyone just be careful. Starling, if I trust you to keep hold of my money then I expect you to protect it, and in this case it seems my money would have been much safer under the mattress. Never again.

Brilliant bank full stop!! Just switched from Barclays and Starling is like a breath of fresh air. The mobile app is spot on. It's quick with plenty of functionality. It also works with Google Pay, take note Barclays!!! Had to phone customer services twice and on both occasions my call was answered and sorted in under 4 mins. Also when phoning there was no press 1 for this and 2 for that, just straight in to a queue and answered not long after. All in all if you are thinking of switching just do it.

Good App and integration with accounting software. BUT, continuous problems with managing payments over £25k, despite following the request for higher payment process, and giving Starling ample notice. Shame but after several months of issues with non-action of payments, I'll be returning to my high street business bank.

For a long time I loved my Starling account, easy to use- super quick and efficient. As LONG as you don't mind one day not being able to access your money without reason and justification for an indeterminable amount of time. Please stay away from this bank at all costs. I say bank in the loosest of terms. This company is an absolute joke. Had a small amount of money transferred into my bank today and they’ve decided to withhold the account. By all means, investigate fraud. I’ve have other bank accounts and whenever there’s any such issue one phone call sorts it all out, confirm a few details and it’s done. But not Starling. They asked for further info which I supplied fully within minutes. It’s now been over 6 hours and I’m without the money I was due to transfer out, not only that but there’s absolutely no time frame given when you call up, you can’t speak to the team dealing with the issue, there’s no further information requested from me- just mysteriously withholding someone’s money. I just cannot understand how this service is acceptable. All because they’re ‘investigating’. How long does it take to investigate, and when can I expect the money to be accessible? Nobody knows- hours, days, months? No one apparently knows! I asked to close my account- and I got cut off. All of a sudden the woman couldn’t hear me. I called up a third time to ask to close my account with immediate effect- and so surprisingly I was told I couldn’t while the account had funds. Funds I can’t and won’t be able to access for the foreseeable future. Absolute joke. As a result my wife has closed her two accounts and three family members are in the process of closing theirs. I’ll keep advising everyone I can- DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH THEM.

Love my Starling accounts! App so easy to navigate, real-time transaction notifications, fast and easy to transfer between my account, my husbands account and our joint account. Fast payments between other banks too so great when I want my son to withdraw cash for me on his way home - just transfer to his account and text him to tell him to stop off at a cashpoint (saves me the trouble of having to go out!). Couldn't be happier.
