I've bought frames and lenses from Iris Optical a couple of times, and both times the service was excellent, and the choice of frames good. This time, I was in the UK for a short visit, and needed a pair of varifocals. The staff were very helpful - open about the risks of my tight schedule, and, once I'd decided to go for it, did all they could to keep things to schedule. I got my new glasses on time: and they'd done a good job. The price was right, too. Very satisfied.

For anyone looking for a bargain, be aware that you get what you pay for. The frames appear to be seconds - one arm on my recently purchased pair does not fit flush and the screws continually work loose - and, despite being extremely well looked after, the lenses have scratched within less than two months. Stump up the extra cash and get a quality pair of glasses elsewhere.

One of the first rules of long-term travel must be "Take a spare pair of glasses with you", because without fail something disastrous will happen to the only set you have. Fortunately, when the strut on the bridge of my Silhouette glasses snapped without warning, I found Iris Optical through a web search: late on a Thursday, just before a bank holiday weekend, I dropped by and was helped quickly, efficiently, and very pleasantly. The correct bridge was ordered -- quite a feat, since the armature is now a few years old and the colour and style are hard to match -- and arrived in good time (considering there were several holidays in between order and arrival from the continent). On my second visit, the glasses were repaired on the spot, and I walked out within about 15 minutes. I highly recommend Iris Optical: the price, service, and efficiency are all top drawer, and I was extremely happy with my experience. I will, however, make sure I travel with a pair and a spare from now on!
