At the start of the tenancy, they were very rude and unhelpful. Myself and my housemate had been hung up on by one of agents twice. I can say that the other agents that worked there were very helpful and polite, but unfortunately one rude and unhelpful agent can spoil the whole vibe. Glad i am no longer involved with John Hilton

I have been renting a student house from John Hiltons for the past year and have been very impressed with them. They are really helpful when you ring them and are very quick to respond to maintenance issues. They came to the house regularly to carry out inspections and to make sure we were happy. You hear such bad stories about how students are treated by estate agents so we are so happy that we found John Hiltons. If you are looking for a student house go to John Hiltons and avoid some of the other agents on Lewes Road!! Last year we got ripped off at the end of the tenancy.

I am an retired and have a couple of investment properties. As I get older it is important to me to have an agent that I can trust to use good tradesmen, find good tenants and minimise my worry. John Hiltons tick all the boxes. In a crowded market, John Hiltons stand out for service, in my experience.

Poor at communication
- Gave us 2 months notice (mid-contract) to move out, when we'd been tenants for 3 years.
- Frequently builders/electricians woudl turn up at our door, without anyone notifying us.
- Didnt contact us for 2 weeks from move out date. Returned some of our deposit, but charged us for carpet cleaning despite the fact it was going to be lifted for builders to come in and do major works.
- No flexibility with move out date.
- We lived in unhealthy conditions (black mould; fungus etc) and nothing was done about it despite reps from John Hilton visiting the property
- Many unresolved maintanence issues.

All of the staff that we dealt with throughout the renting of the property were particularly unhelpful and even rude in more than several cases. I would not recommend John Hilton to anybody and wish I had not gone through them at all to rent a property.

Rude, condescending, manipulative bullies. If you are looking for accommodation in Brighton i can assure you these people will rip you off and try to find any way of charging you extra. I have never been to an estate agents where moral obligations are placed so low.
