I went into Barclays Brighton branch about a week ago and was harassed/verbally abused by a male customer in front of many staff members, and not one of them stepped in to protect me. I had gone to the branch to update my address details and cancel a card which had been sent to a previous address (Barclays had told me, after several earlier attempts, that it couldn't be done over the phone or online so required an in-person visit). When I arrived, I explained the issue to a staff member who told me to queue at the main counter where they would be able to help me. When I got to the counter, the staff member there experienced some technical difficulties which meant that things took longer than I had expected. In the queue behind me was a very loud (and possibly drunk) man wearing a high-vis jacket, who quickly became impatient and started shouting about me at full volume to staff and other customers. His behaviour was so unpredictable and hostile that I kept my head down and pretended not to hear him, instead trying to concentrate on my conversation with the staff member. However, he gradually became more aggressive and continued shouting about me, and seemed to be trying to provoke me into giving a reaction. He began pointing his stick at me and also banging it repeatedly on the floor, clearly in an attempt to intimidate me. He also seemed to be listening in on my conversation with the staff member (I know this because he was shouting to everyone that I was updating my details and that I should have gone to see a personal banker). Because he was listening in, it meant that I was too afraid to report the issue in case he overheard. The whole situation was really unnerving and I did not have the confidence to say anything to him because his behaviour seemed volatile and unpredictable. I carried on dealing with the staff member and hoped that soon, someone would spot the aggressive behaviour and ask him to leave. Despite there being several staff members in earshot on the banking floor, nothing was said and he was allowed to continue for what felt like around ten minutes. When I finished what I was doing and went to leave, I heard him shout about me again to others. The situation was so frightening for me and, by this point I was so full of adrenaline that I turned to him - now shaking - and informed him that I had simply gone to the counter as instructed by another staff member and told him that he should stop shouting about me. Everyone in the branch - customers and staff - watched as I spoke and STILL no one said anything. The man was allowed to go to the counter to carry on his business (which he got to do without being harassed) whereas I was forced to scurry out of the branch in shame as quickly as I could. I am just grateful that he was busy at the desk and didn't follow me out of the branch because I do not believe that anyone would have intervened had he done so. I felt very much let down by Barclays on this occasion.

Having at the entrance this young man treating you with Hans in his pocket constantly, And have other colleague call in to the side an elder client (late 50’s) addressing ti him with a very unprofessional “HEY MATES WANNA COME IN!!” are they for real???? Where is the old staff lovely professional and respectful

Generally quite a friendly bank, with friendly staff members. They're not open the same long hours that Metro bank are open, but Barclay's has been around for ages. I've had quite experiences dealing with the management at this brsnch over the past few years

Was served by an elderly brunette southern European sounding lady. She was very rude and unhelpful. I was polite and cordial and all she ws trying to do was just make the queue move along without actually doing what she was asked to. Without performing the bank service. Terrible experience.

I do like going to Barclays to put some money inside my own bank account from the cash machine and the women who was teaching me how to use the cash machine to put the money inside my bank account was very nice, helpful and kind so keep up the good work.

Sadly I must agree with the comment concerning customer inquiries. I have been in the branch several times in the last month or so and the 'hip' service desk is just a joke. The staff carry round their right-on 'ipads' but seem unable to contact anyone in the branch which means they have to wander off to find out if requested staff are actually there. This means that the next person in the queue just has to wait even longer. Possibly a bit more old fashioned staff "Sitting" behind a counter with an internal phone might be a better option. I also get the impression that internal staff 'hot-desk' upstairs which makes it even harder for the reception staff to find them

Looks like a big and good bank but there is nobody to provide service. If you want a banker to really help you then just go home and make a appointment which would be next week. People at the front desk holding an iPad is ridiculous and not helpful.

A disgusting, garish, extravagant waste of Barclay's customer money. Long queues, ridiculous spinning light displays and big plastic curly wurly railings with marble floors and columns. I'd rather have a decent interest rate and better service than be charged repeatedly for the privilege of attempting to pay a bill and being notified about it, while taking me further into my overdraft. This building shows where all the money they cream off you as a customer ends up.. This hideous monstrosity. Why anyone would walk in and think 'wow, pretty' whilst doing their banking (which all banks seem to want you to do yourself anyway, what with 'Digital Eagles' teaching people to use Online services, mobile banking apps etc. Why don't I get a wage for doing most of it myself? I'm pretty certain the computer that performs all the automated services that charge you for 'attempted banking' and 'administrative fees' doesn't get a salary. So much about banking is a con.. Did you know a direct debit set for the 1st of the month into your account won't appear if it's on a weekend until the Monday? Why.. ? Do computers only work 5 days a week? I know people make mistakes, but some of what I've experienced here has been truly idiotic. I asked for a new card last week, gave them my account number and they cancelled and printed me a new card to a completely different account. I couldn't understand why my PIN wouldn't work until I noticed the account number was wrong - by them I was locked out and had to order a new PIN and I still had the wrong card! I don't know who the real idiots are - I suspect its me. I've been with Barclays since I was 11 years old.. they made a mistake on day one, they sent me a Visa Credit card instead of just opening my junior savers account. I've only got more bitter since then!

I went there with a contract of the Univeristy and they didn't want to open me a basic bank account...The reason: it was a fixed term contract (for 2 years!). After going back to the University to get a special certificate they didn't accept it either. Really puzzling, I won't go ever again.

A bunch of amateurs. Tried to open an ISA, went there three times to try, and was told conflicting bits of information as to the info I needed to bring to open it every time. So, even at the customer end there is flagrancy in regard to regulations. On the last trip I had to wait half an hour while the previous meeting overran. Should have stayed away for their poor ethical record, but now will due to their poor organisation.

just had my second intensely frustrating encounter with Barclays Brighton so called customer services. I recently stood at the back of a 15 person queue which was being inadequately dealt with by only one desk clerk. I waited 10 minutes, during which the queue didn't move at all. The branch manager came along the line apologising for the staffing problem. As a senior school manager, I pointed out that it looked to me more like a management problem than a 'staffing problem'. Today I spent a quarter of an hour attempting to find out how to inform the branch by phone that I needed an appointment I had made to speak to my mortgage advisor to be changed because of an emergency dental appointment. I was put through to Liverpool initially, and then to a local number which turned out to be the ordering department, with no means to speak to an actual person. There is no email contact provided, so I am just going to have to fail to turn up, no doubt inconveniencing somebody else who could have used the slot. I'll then have to go to the branch again to make a further appointment. I can't believe how user-unfriendly this branch can be.

Very long waits with not enough staff to cover the amount of customers, friendly person at the door but pointless as they just send you to stand in a queue which is very long and frustrating, in fact I find myself more frustrated once I have left than before I went in in the first place. So I have now closed my account and have gone elsewhere.
