Reviewing as a tenant- renting for 1 year
Issues from the start. Overall unprofessional manner from some of the team and pretty inept at fixing things.
The boiler was broken when we moved in so we had no hot water. We were reassured someone that someone would fix it same day. No one appeared but i was told someone was on standby for next day.
By day 3 still not fixed and were informed that as we "still have running water it is not an emergency".I was then told to contact the boiler company myself to see if they could expedite fixing it as the letting company "work for the landlord not the tenants". After doing so, it turns out no one was ever planned to arrive same day and the fix had always been arranged for 6 days from reporting it. We were directly lied to by Fin Davies from Paul Bott and co on a daily basis. We were not given any compensation for the lack of heating
Damp reported in Feb- not seen to until July. Handyman promised to come out 3 times but never appeared- seems to be a recurring problem when reading other reviews.
Deposit not returned for 8 weeks despite multiple emails. Turns out the person in charge had left the company and not handed anything over.
Positives:
Paul Bott himself seems lovely. We contacted him re boiler who got in touch with Mike Porter, head of lettings. (Mike's response to this was to tell us not to go over his head as he is joint co-owner)
Anna was very helpful in getting deposit back to us once she found out the oversight
I think the worst people in this company - Mike Porter and Fin Davies may have left so hopefully should not be a problem in the future

Multiple issues with the lettings section of this company. We rented a flat for a year and had multiple issues that were dealt with poorly, such as broken drawers that weren’t fixed, and we were left without hot water for the first 6 days when we moved in. We didn’t receive our deposit until 8 weeks after we moved out.
I would recommend to any tenants to take pictures of the property when you move in for evidence, as they have charged us a £100 cleaning fee. They use a third party inventory company that take much more detailed pictures when you move out.
The company is probably okay if you have a property and are looking to rent it out because the team “work for the landlords, not the tenants” - genuinely said to us.
Overall, 2 stars because there are some people we spoke to were helpful (Paul Bott and Anna); otherwise, namely Mike, Maria and Finn I found to be unhelpful, rude and arrogant.

Paul Bott & Co are inept. They are nice enough but they are completely useless when it comes to lettings. They take ages to respond if they bother to at all. They offer timelines to which they don't adhere. They frequently take over a week to respond and even then only when you take an aggressive tone. I will not be using them again and would not advise them to anyone.

Have requested they come collect the Let sign outside our flat 5 times over for 2 weeks and they have made various promises to collect it. Its falling down and obstructs the entrance but is fastened to the wall. Unprofessional and lazy.

AVOID at all costs!
If I could give 0 star I would. This agency will extort you for money by refusing to pay your deposit, making you incur random fees. The staff are very unprofessional and rude. Don't waste your valuable resources.

Worst agency EVER.
If I could, I would give ZERO stars.
We arranged a viewing of a property.
Even though I came early and call to let them know, they still managed to come late.
And when they do, DON’T EVEN HAVE THE KEYS TO THE PROPERTY.
“The current tenant needs to let us in”
Ok, fair enough.
The tenant is NOT IN.
They didn’t arrange with him or her to be there for the viewing.
Amazing, super unprofessional.
And when I call to tell them why I am upset, they give you attitude! Not owning their mistakes, blaming it on the tenant.
What a damn joke they are.

Amazing company and will use again if I ever have to sell or buy. Right from day one when they came to value they have been so friendly and added a personal touch. They sold our flat so quickly and updated us at every stage. They helped so much throughout the whole buying and selling process and we couldn't be happier with their work. People say you get what you pay for but with Paul Bott & co you will get so much more than just a great service, you will get support and they will do everything they can to help. I will be recommending this company to everyone I know for years to come and if/when we come to selling we will both go straight to Paul Bott and his team.

Having been recommended to Paul Bott I visited him and explained that we were hoping to sell a flat in Kemptown for our disabled son and purchase a fully disabled accessible one in the local area. From the outset he was positive and achieved a sale within a matter of weeks - not surprising given the office opening hours and their practice of viewing on a seven day basis. His commitment and personal involvement has been outstanding - he also did the negotiation for us on the purchase of the flat in Hove and has visited our son regularly to keep him updated.
Given that we live around 150 miles distant his personal involvement has been most comforting despite a period of illness when he was calling us from home.
This is a non-corporate operation and it shows !! I would have no hesitation in recommending both him and his personable staff. He helped us achieve a daunting task by removing any potential hurdles.

Mike was very helpful in finding and viewing a studio and made the process very simple. Absolutely no stress and relieved to have found the perfect place. Mike Porter did an excellent job of letting our flat in Brighton. The process was run smoothly from start to finish - he handled all of the admin with minimal input from us, but kept us informed at all the right points. The valuation was right, photos looked great and viewings efficiently organised, but best of all he found us some super tenants within a week of the property being on the market. Couldn't recommend Mike and his team at Paul Bott highly enough!

Unfortunately, after paying a holding fee based on what the agent had told me - that the flat was unfurnished and in parking zone H - both of these key points about the property were incorrect and ultimately meant we were unable to continue with the move in. We were refused a refund on our holding fee, even though we'd been sold lies based on the incompetence of the agent. Incredibly unprofessional way of dealing with issues they had caused.

Friendly, efficient, care about their clients, no fluff or bluster. Work fast and make moving house a lot less painful. They found us a buyer at full asking even before our home was put on the market and followed through with both sides solicitors to put everything in place smoothly. Their charges are reasonable, their energy remarkable. Have dealt with several estate agents over the years and these are undoubtably the best we've used. Completely recommended.

My experience as a buyer with Paul Bott was the complete opposite of Jess's below. They were incredibly lovely and helpful even tho I wasn't their client. They checked in with me regularly, listened to my worries (which had nothing to do with them) and provided invaluable advice.
In fact, a while before I bought one of "their" properties, I also spoke to Kathy about my own sale (which I had with a different agency) and rather than pushing their own services on me like almost everyone else, they advised me to stick it out and go with my current buyer and agency!
I've dealt with pretty much every agency in Brighton over my year long search and Paul Bott are definitely way up there.

Well what can I say! The statements 'above and beyond' and 'nothing is too much trouble' are very much and understatements when is comes to Paul and his team.
I cannot recommend Paul highly enough; it is very stressful selling a property! so you can imagine what it was like for me being overseas. Paul was there every step of the way! Even through the frustrating times! ..... I even had a buyer drop out! Whoosh! there was Paul ! and we were back on track!!!
Professional! Knowledgeable! Caring! Helpful! Attentive! Respectful! Efficient! TRUSTWORTHY and these are not enough words to describe the experience I received in selling my home after 25 years, I was a little sad but Paul made be feel a better saying it had gone to a very lovely couple and they were very happy and overjoyed at purchasing my home!
I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Paul and his team.

Nothing was ever too much trouble for Paul or any of the team that 'held our hands' through what we were anticipating to be a difficult sale. Our property had been on the market with other agents and we had experienced sales falling though. Not only did Paul sell the property in just over a week, he broke the ceiling price of the road - which still has not been beaten! The interest he took in learning about our home and what we had done to improve it, as well as the energy the team put in to quickly and completely re-market it differently from previous agents, reassured us that they not only had our best interests at heart, but they also cared about the potential buyers end situation - not something you get the feeling of from many Estate Agents!! Next time we move there is no doubt that we would call Paul Bott & Co.

Paul Bott and his team including Thea, Jack and Julian are absolutely fantastic. My wife and i recently sold our house in Baker's Bottom with Paul and the whole experience was terrific. I have been trying to sell a property for a period of time and have been let down on several occasions. I used a couple of other Agents with no success. However, as soon as I advertised with Paul Bott & Co., we achieved results within a very short space of time.
I dealt mainly with Thea who I cannot recommend highly enough. She is professional, keeps you fully informed of progress and is very determined. I really did feel that as the Vendor she had my interests at heart. Although she remained professional, she had a personal touch, a quality not all Estate Agents possess. We had registered as buyers with many agents, rather than relying on searching on the internet everyday. Paul Bott & Co, were kind in informing us of new properties before they even went on the internet, they kept us up to date and in contact regularly, rather than a majority of agents we registered with, who didn't bother to get back to us after viewing with them and it seemed they weren't interested if you didn't put an offer in there an then!!! we found the staff there, friendly, approachable, honest and they had great knowledge of the local area.

THE MAIN THING THAT IMPRESSED ME WITH THIS ESTATE AGENT IS THAT THEY KEEP YOU UP TO DATE WITH YOUR SALE/PURCHASE ON A VERY REGULAR BASIS AND THEY DONT JUST FORGET ABOUT YOU BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOLD YOUR PROPERTY. THEY CONSTANTLY CHASED SOLICITORS ON MY BEHALF AND LIASED WITH THE OTHER ESTATE AGENTS IN THE CHAIN. AS IT GOT NEARER TO COMPLETEION I WS RECIEVING THREE TO 4 EMAILS PER DAY SO I WAS ALWAYS KEPT WITHIN THE LOOP.THEIR LEVEL OF INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM IS TO BE ENVIED ESPECIALLY AS I NORMALLY CANT BEAR ESTATE AGENTS.
