One of the most fabulous garden areas in a pub in Brighton and Hove. And they have gone over and above to provide weather protection. Fabulous. Good luck to them, they deserve it, and all comers deserve the wonderful ambience too.

Not the best experience this time in afraid only Matthew saved the day. We had a particularly rude waiter who argued with me about not having to verbally tell me what gins they had, just really weird given that's his job! I specifically booked under canvas seating through the website for my birthday only to be seated the other side with no cover and with heaters that didn't work. We've eaten so many time at HP not sure what's changed, the food was overpriced and mediocre, the steak at £28 had zero seasoning and fat not rendered. So overall disappointing especially given the special occasion.

A visit to Hove would not be complete without lunch at Hove Place. Conveniently open all day for food. It has a big outside space, great in summer and if you have pets as it's enclosed.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We started with a delicious charcuterie board of unusual cured and smoked meats. We followed this with the lusciously satisfying Fish and Triple Cooked Chips with mushy peas. My friend loved his Chicken with veggies served with a side of mash topped with pastry.. I love this place and I reckon you will too..

Super lovely! The garden is really pretty and set up super nicely/cosy. We had charcuterie - menu selection was fab & very local and everything we had was delicious. The staff are all incredibly friendly and accommodating and clearly very on it which must be extra difficult at a time like this. Couldn't be happier with service. Everyone is smashing it x

Excellent service from staff but they need to show prices as asked how much the wine was and all they said its house white wine and did not get given the price after 4 drinks and 4 small meals and £172.87 later found out how much it was. No problem have the price on the list also did notice the toilet cleaning was alcleaned and signed off at 19.30 and was signed of foer the rest of the night??? This needs to be checked and sorted as the toilets was dirty

If you are looking for a place to drink in Hove while you're only allowed to drink outside, this is the place to go. There are a couple of things that I feel needs improvement but overall I had a good time.
From the outside it looks very small and goes down into a basement which makes it all the more exciting. When you enter the beer garden, the mood has certainly been finely tuned to cater to the restrictions. There are different areas each with their own suitable needs. We got to sit over at Doc's table which was very cosy.
The drinks themselves are a better selection than you would see in most pubs with even the standard Smirnoff being the smoother black instead of red label. The drinks however have a strange mismatch of template. For example, if you order a black cow vodka with lemonade and then a smirnoff black with coke you will get different proportions of mixer. I dont know why this is, but it didnt really take much away from the drink (unless you really like mixer). Unfortunately on top of this there aren't prices on any of the drinks on the menu (except the wines). They have qr codes for ordering on each table but again, its just the same menu.
However this wasnt too much of a problem as the staff were so friendly and helpful anyway, they let us know the prices of certain drinks. The customer service is absolutely one of the shining aspects of the venue; the staff really make sure to consider the customer experience and look after you as much as they can. Excellent work.

Went yesterday with friends for the first time since lockdown and won’t be returning ever again. We arrived and waited patiently by the door to be seated. When, after a few minutes, no-one had taken any notice of us, we began to walk in but were abruptly ordered to walk all the way back to the entrance and wait to be seated. As always it’s not so much what you say but how you say it and clearly the gentleman who likes to order customers around needs to book himself some lessons in customer service. Not appreciated at all. This was all confirmed to me when my friends arrived a little later and experienced the exact same welcome. Things didn’t improve from there. The servers were so incredibly cold, detached and disinterested that we eventually had to laugh about it. I think this was our way of dealing with a really unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. Certainly one I won’t be repeating again, Pretty shocking. Clearly the staff here are not happy. Either that or they’re just generally not cut out for customer service roles. Shame as I used to love this pub but won’t ever be returning now.

I may have had a better roast dinner, but I'm not sure I can remember where. We dropped in on spec the first weekend we moved to Hove pre lockdown 2. We order ed 2 adult and one child's roast dinner. It was all absolutely outstanding. Roasts can vary with the say the meat being good or the Yorkshire puddings, but for me, it's often the veg and the potatoes that can let it down. The potatoes and all veg here were superb. Seriously good, as was every element of the meal. It's slightly more pricey than some places, but you get what you pay for, which for me made this great value. It’s also a lovely setting (we were in the garden). The staff were super friendly as well ,which is always good. Highly recommended.

This pub attracts the trendy set and prices are higher than you might pay elsewhere. That said the garden is one of the best in Hove and they do everything well. Food quality and service was very good on the day I visited.

Dropped in with a great friend for a drink in the afternoon. Lovely greeting at the door and directed outside due to the wonderful weather and Covid. The waitress was less than friendly and proceeded to tell us to order from the App. No menus! No wine list? What do people do if they don't have a phone and the WiFi would not connect anyway. I asked for a bottle of Chablis as she was certainly not going to recommend anything. We enjoyed our drink at what was a busy time for them and many regulars I suspect. The service in the area we were sitting in was certainly less than friendly compared to other tables being served. One guest had to actually ask to be served as he had been siting long enough. We were left to ourselves while she went on a break and then only returned just as we were about to leave. Thanks for the £28 bottle of Chablis, nothing more expensive on the menu?? Not a great environment to spend good money in and I would be wanting much superior service for this price.

Had a table booked and the ‘manager’ was unbelievably rude To us upon arrival for absolutely no reason (passive aggressive, sarcastic, rolling his eyes). We left immediately before even getting to our table. Worth noting that another staff member was extremely polite and very sympathetic - the manager could learn from her!

All the staff are really friendly and helpful. Very child friendly with a late licence for children. Two beer gardens, a large one at the back and a small one out front with pretty lighting which helps create a nice evening ambience.

During these difficult times people prefer to dine outside when the weather is good. We had 3 tables of smokers around us. Isn't it time to ban smoking outside or make a seperated corner of the Courtyard a designated smoking area? Having peoples smoke blown over you whilst eating is not a pleasant dining experience and being encircled in a cloud of smoke freshly blown from the smokers lungs is a little unnerving in these Covid 19 days.

Booked a table for 2 hours and then got told to skedaddle 15 minutes early. Also the staff weren't very attentive, told we need to wait to be seated but noone at the door so stood there for 5 minutes. Drinks were nice though

Only been twice and have enjoyed it a lot both times. There is a nice bar with plenty to choose from. Plenty of seating and good food options, I opted for the Hove place burger which is pretty special! Other food options are good and all people in our group very happy. The staff are courteous and friendly. They have space outdoors but haven't tried that yet as the weather has been pretty awful so we stayed indoors. Will visit again, recommended.

I found myself on a very hot Sunday afternoon enjoying the shade offered by the front garden (sun-lovers go to the beautiful rear garden) and wondering how it was that I was enjoying the best chips I'd ever eaten at what looked like a fairly standard dog- friendly pub. Did they scoop up a master chef from a fancy venue that didn't survive COVID? Who knows... but all I can say is get your arse in there to eat as soon as possible before an upmarket restaurant with a bigger budget discovers the culinary magician behind those meals.

Very quick and friendly table service gives the terrace a real continental feel. Food a level up from normal pub food ( better quality smaller portions etc.). Not cheap and since the refills keep on coming a great but expensive night.

Initially stopped for a drink, but ended up eating dinner. Good food, upper end of pub grub, pea and ham risotto starter good, duck leg could have been cooked better: a bit fatty and skin not crispy, but the duck egg was superb, cooked perfectly, choice of wines was good, dessert was good too.
