Gary is a master craftsman at the highest level. In the past year I've brought in a Mongolian upright bass fiddle and a very non-standard custom built Indian cello both with several very fiddly repair issues and upgrades. He was completely unfazed by either job (I'm sure I would've got funny looks at other luthiers!) and the end result was perfect - both instruments sounding better than when they were brand new! The playability was substantially improved as the setup was tweaked to perfection e.g. substantially improved string spacing, string height and fingerboard shooting on the cello. He even troubleshooted a built-in pickup which hasn't worked for years and was extremely difficult to access. After having some bad experiences at a couple of other repair shops this is literally the only place I would trust for services or repairs on any stringed instrument, cello, bass, violin or otherwise!

Very very happy with the work Gary has done on my 2012 Julien Bachellier cello. He carried out repairs on a crack around the sound post area and then did some sound adjustment, including changing the bridge (from French to Belgian). All in all, my instrument is sounding amazing. Thanks Gary!

Expect to pay a HIGH PREMIUM to get your INSTRUMENT REPAIRED/SOLD FROM HERE. Valued our violin at £2000, had a broken bridge, after charging £800 for the repair and for their selling fee, our take home was £400. And then after they sold it we weren't even given the money until we chased them for 3 months. We feel a bit taken advantage of for trying to support a local company. Update: have increased the stars to 3* upon being contacted by the company and advised that delays are due to covid. Leaving the review up to ensure people are aware of very high repair costs and that there’s a good chance you’ll end up with the “bottom end of their price range estimates” as we did.

I had a new bridge fitted on my double bass at Bridgewood and Neitzert and it's literally perfect! The craftsmanship is top of the line. A fantastic upgrade, it's brought my bass to life. It was certainly well worth the trip to get such fine work done. I would highly recommend these guys and will definitely use them again in future.

I love this shop, its so great having it around the corner. I'm a beginner and recently bought my first violin here. I have just been back for a shoulder rest fitting. I was given so much time and attention on both occasions.

Very knowledgeable and friendly. Amazingly they let you take the instrument home for 2 weeks before you commit to the purchase.

Very friendly and honest. I went in to buy a new violin and took my daughters current violin. They fixed the dodgy E-string and advised to wait for the next size or until teacher said to upgrade to get a better instrument. Will be definitely be back in the near future. If they are busy then please be patient as they are taking very good care of each customer and not rushing (my observation as I waited).

This is a traditional violin and cello shop who specialise in selling on previously loved instruments. They also repair, something they do very well if other comments here are to be believed. Every effort is made to ensure the purchaser is extremely happy with their instrument. I feel I must comment on a previous review here which concerned the way they were treated and the implication that only white middle class people were spared any time. My wife who is Asian was surprised by this as she has always been treated with respect. Being a white man I also take exception to this comment. I am aware that to be spoken to in a straight forward manner may be misconstrued by some, but there is a lot of knowledge and they are willing to spend a great deal of time ensuring his customers are happy. Buying a cello or violin is not something you would do in passing as they cost upwards from £3000. It also takes time to hear the various instruments that are offered to test. There may have been a misunderstanding in this respect.

A truly brilliant shop which I've used now for several decades! I've had bridges cut, fingerboards shot, and bows re-haired - all of which have been expertly executed by the talented staff. Always a warm welcome and full of clear advice - Gary (Bridgewood) helped me buy my first Electric violin! I play violin professionally and would definitely recommend them for all string instrument work - so refreshing to find a music shop where the staff aren't just about commission, they have time for you.
