Lovely redesign means this historic building has now got a worthy pub ! Great gins, good fried bites, nice ambiance on jazz evenings (sundays from 4). Definitely worth a visit for locals and tourists alike.

Recently had a refurb that made me want to go back and check it out again. The refurb is great, the place looks amazing with a vintage Victorian vibe. The vibe is certainly attracting a crowd who place that kind of atmosphere highly.
However, the music is played so loudly that the only conversation possible is shouted. That means everyone in the dense seating is yelling at each other.
The drinks selection is also awful. They used to have a real range. Now there's nothing but ale really. There's one cider and no bottles to speak of.
All show and no substance.
Food is good though, but you wouldn't want to come here for a sit down meal. Croustillant D might want to consider moving to somewhere where people will actually want to eat a meal.

Nice pub with friendly barman and excellent range of beers in this hot weather.Situated in the Lanes the rooms are cool and was able to watch Germany get knocked out of the World Cup.Food did not look bad either.

How can I put it...love it here, especially on a Sunday. Pop in have a drink, listen to some scatt jazz, sing along and have a dance if you want. Last time in there was open mike and this lovely old lady of 90 sang a fabulous song, but the main singer does fantastic scat. Excellent place to eat, drink and enjoy yourself.

Great food from Coulissant D, and good craft beer selection in a grand old building. The prices are the one thing letting it down. £6 a pint of beer is probably the highest you'll pay in Brighton and Hove, but then you are bang in the middle of the touristy Lanes so to be expected.
