The staff are amazing, customer service is great. Perfect pub for a drink but I wouldn’t recommend their food. I went once and the burger was raw... tried again last night thinking sometimes we have a bad day and again totally let down. We thought to try as they had a new menu but food was super expensive for what it was and both my husband and I ended with massive stomach cramps in the night.. such a shame but not giving them another chance.. this is a drinking pub ...

Kids area for young children, garden with booths, big bar area and out front seating.
Reasonable selection of beers and ciders.
Came for Sunday roast, meals all arrived at the same time. Food was hot and considering we arrived at the end of the day it was good! Many places the potatoes and veg are hard/over cooked.
Service friendly and helpful and full Covid-19 practices in place.

An absolute pleasure coming here for a drink and some food! Recommend by friends and I was highly delighted with the experience. The food was rich with amazing flavours compliment each other. If you’ve got a sweet tooth the pork belly bits are incredible. The style of menu fits the pub well and I will be pleased to come back. I have heard good things about their roast beef too so I will be trying that soon.

I did not enjoy it, the wait for food was like 45 minutes the food wasnt great. I got served a bit of coke from the bottom of the barrel. Nice waiters but I don't recommend, I rate my experience a 3/10.

The George Payne is a well-sized pub which caters for the local community. It manages to be at once spacious and cosy. The staff are always incredibly nice and instantly make you feel welcome, whilst the menu and weekly food offers provide something for all to enjoy. Regular weekly events provide quality entertainment including an open mic but it is also popular as a venue hire for parties and functions. All round, it's a lovely pub tucked in a quiet road far from the madding crowd. A must see if you're new to Hove or visiting the area for a while.

We love this pub! Came Friday for my daughter's birthday but have been before. Amazing atmosphere! Such happy staff! The music is great, had me dancing in my seat. The waitress is a lovely happy person, bopping away. What a warm hearted girl - sorry don't know her name! We didn't stay for the live band as we had a child with us but had a great time. Good food and drinks

Great service, beautiful Christmas decorations and lovely atmosphere. Has an outdoor seating area too! They do an open mic night on Thursday which is always fun. Plus, as someone who doesn't like to drink alcohol a lot, I love the fact that I could have a cup of tea with my friends while they have alcohol.

I LOVE this pub I'm a recovering acholic and feel on edge going to pubs but this pub and the pubs that are owned and ran by the same people make it a great atmosphere and I feel safe. The food and service is first class. Well recommended

The food I had today was awful, cold and congealed! I ordered a cod of the special, which was cold and full of bones. I won't ever come back! Lacking atmosphere when I walked past the kitchen to go the toilet, well kitchen Chef, watching footie, and his greasy tied back hair. I visited here 3 months ago and it was really nice! So disappointed

Amazing place for the family. Great outdoor area for the kids which is always helpful. Then they have little outdoor cabins where you can order food too so it’s a very nice stop in the sun. Great choice of food and does a mean roast!

We booked a table for six people, which consisted of three vegans. We ordered roasts, which were ok, but our puddings came with all butter shortbread - which we cannot eat due to the dairy content!! The wait staff apologized profusely, but had one of us had an allergic reaction, this could have been tragic. Poor allergens checks by the kitchen staff have put us off ever going back to this place. If you have a particular diet or allergy, I would avoid this place.

My friends kept asking me 'How is it?'. I was eating slowly savouring every mouth full. 'Ten of ten' I'd say with a thumbs up. I was greatly enjoying my 'Hot & spicy burger, chips & salad' - recommended!
It seemed to me that the chef had made a special effort with my food. That kind of quality does not turn itself out by accident.
We were looked after well by Frank & friendly, hard working Vicky in their relaxing surroundings. I particularly liked how the music got quieter in the evening so different groups of friends could stay and chat - not be driven away by the noise.
I noted that the pub seemed particularly family friendly during the daytime.
My first time there (although my friends were returning). I will certainly go back.

Really good roast dinner however the potatoes were cooked in oil and I like them in fat and I was disappointed to find out that the chocolate brownie we ordered was full of nuts! And they never told us! Then they said it was white chocolate! But they reimbursed us so it's all good.. Thanks George payne your nuts !!

Great pub, with a wide range of lovely booze to pick from. The environment is fun and friendly, whilst the staff were warm and welcoming. The food on offer is utterly fantastic. Well worth a visit!

Went here quite a lot last year, but went there for the first time mid July 2019 and the place was practically dead on a Sunday. It never used to be like that, then we tried the roast. Absolutely shocking drop in quality, overcooked chunks of red cabbage, microwave in the bag pork slices, leathery roast potatoes that you could barely cut with the knife.
Avoid this place for food now. Only go for drinks. The front of house team are genuinely lovely, but the kitchen quality has sunk like a stone. (this review is from a chef that used to work in pubs that were well reviewed in BN1, Source & TripAdvisor.)
