What a great find and unique place. The people who work here are enthusiasts just like you, they own old Leica film camera's, can wax poetically for hours on the difference between a summicron type II or type III look, and show you all the features of their self designed, hand made, camera straps - designed by actual photographers mind you, so it's great to use.. You'll hear that a few times. If you're looking for an amazing place to find second hand lenses, old school camera's, great finds, fun deals, or exotic and classic equipment - make haste and go here ASAP - you'll have a fantastic time and find tons of good stuff

If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind camera or if you need to repair your favorite camera or lens, this is the place to go in London. Aperture offers a large selection of 2nd hand, top brand cameras and lenses from Nikon, Canon, Leica, to name a few. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and friendly, and more importantly, they offer great customer service. I came twice for a minor lens fixing (mixing screws) and they did the job on the fly at no charge! They have definitely won me over with customer service and any future big purchases or repairs will be done at their shop. Special kudos to Kriton for the technical support and Will for his warm welcome.

So today I popped into the store to purchase a strap for my camera, I entered the store and asked a member of staff if they have camera straps to which the response was "we don't do cheap straps in here, they're quite expensive ones we don't do second hand". I couldn't believe this response as I hadn't mentioned price at all or asked for a cheap product, the audacity this man had to judge me purely on my appearance being a mixed race male in my mid 20's was completely unnaceptable, had he not been in such a rush to make this stereotypical judgement and given me a second to open my camera bag and show him my Contact G2 with 45mm Karl zeiss lens that I'd spent £800 on and was now hunting for a strap for maybe he would have seen past my skin colour and acted in a more professional manner. Never the less I shook my head and said how utterly dissapointing that was before sadly leaving the shop that I will never be revisiting or recommending to any other photographer.

Avoid!!! One of the members of staff was extremely rude and spoke with a terrible attitude. He showed no concern with any of my queries regarding a product after the payment was done. Furthermore he was dishonest with details and prices, changing what he claimed. I do not recommend selling/ trading-in items here as you will given a terrible price quote on the basis that its in a bad condition, then selling your product for at least twice as much of what you receive, stated it as 'mint' etc condition.

Extremely disappointed at your service. One staff member was utterly rude to me over the phone. He probably doesn't run the shop (might even be new) because he had to keep putting me on hold to ask someone else for a price quote. I called up in the afternoon asking for a quote to sell them a particular camera and he gave an approximation price and said it's subject to its condition. I thanked him and said I will come down to the store and let them have a look in the evening. Closer to the evening, I called them up again because I decided to sell my camera flash addition to my camera body. I wanted to know if it was worth my time bringing the flash down in addition. The same guy answered the phone and I said, "Hi I called up earlier with regards to selling my camera body. Would there be a maximum price that you guys will give for the camera body? Supposing it is in perfect condition and as described earlier on the phone? Also, what is the best price for my camera flash? It's brand new and totally unused." Along with a whole lot of attitude and other remarks made during the rest of our conversation, this sentence was what ticked me off and made me hang up. Imagine hearing this in the MOST SNOBBISH TONE ever: "Well it's obviously not brand new since you've had it. And how am I supposed to even give you a price (for the camera body)? I don't remember what I said to you just now. If you're going to keep asking me hypothetical questions, I'm going to give you hypothetical answers." My reply: "You DON'T need to be so rude over the phone." [hangs up] Just for everyone's info, almost every camera shop I've called up gives a cap on what they would likely offer for any piece of equipment. If you guys at Aperture don't do that, simply say so at the start. Don't expect every new customer to understand your policy if you're "different" from other shops. I cringe to think about what less-knowledgeable photographers/videographers would have to face when you decide to verbally abuse them. On a separate occasion, I have personally gone to your shop before with a friend and we were given the same rude response when I asked if you take in a particular third-party lens. One of the guys simply replied "Nobody wants your lens" and he just ignored us after that. Even the stgaff across the street at CeX are way friendlier and they're nice enough to recommend places to sell gear that they don't take in. It's not surprise NONE of them recommended "Aperture across the street". You guys may be great at what you do as techies, but this is absolutely no way to treat customers. I'm definitely advising my all my fellow freelancers to avoid your store. I am extremely disappointed in the way you treat your customers and don't understand how you have decent reviews on Google. For all you know half of them are fake.

What a photographic gem in a time where physical photographic shops are becoming few and far between. Inside you'll find a mecca of secondhand classic camera makes like Leica, Rollei, old-school Nikons… The staff are so polite and courteous, but more importantly they really know their stuff. I know that because I took in my beloved Hasselblad camera which had a sticky shutter. They looked at it there and then, we shot a roll of film, they developed it in their onsite lab and we checked the results. They only charged me for the roll and the developing. No cost for 1/2hr of their time, knowledge and expertise. If you want the best in photographic service plus lots of secondhand decent cameras to salivate over (well not literally they'll hope!), Aperture is your place. You can't miss it. A deep red coloured, weather worn but inviting looking shop on Rathbone Place, just off Oxford Street, a 5 minute walk from Tottenham Ct. Rd tube.

As you stroll down a somewhat generic street you will easily find that this is a shop that radiates a different vibe, a place with a more human touch. I find this a real gem in London, what meets the visitor is a friendly team of people you can feel are passionate about photography and care to talk to you in a genuine way. There isn´t a sense of rush or coldness - everytime I´ve felt welcome. You come across a sweet portfolio of cameras - leicas, rolleiflex, hasselblad predominantly, and the occasional large format suites. What leaves the experience memorable is the additional touch of the fika/tearoom across the room where softspoken conversation and peaceful encounters peak the eye. To make note of though, is that for film processing these guys have a very decent offering if you consider the market in London as a whole. For one, they are of the few who are open on Saturdays - and their packages for film processing and scanning holds up the quality. It may take up to a week, but I always feel it is worth it and I feel like it is in safe hands. Always, you feel welcome to come back, if not even only for the pleasant light that meets the window display with the Asian plants and the curious visitors expression when discovering this place. The shop is really full of frames itself, and any camera shop that disregards that aspect is out of the game. Anyone who loves film and photography should make a visit, whether it is this shop or the companion in Museum Street (also recommended). For film processing this is the place though.
