It has a selection of acoustic instruments leaning towards a folk music scene. I went in to try out some open back banjos and found they were well looked after and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and encouraged me to play. There is a downstairs also with more instruments.
Will go back to give my custom.

Nice shop, nice people just leave to play anything for as long as you need, then there to help when you need them. Excellent range of folk and general guitars and instruments. I bought an Ashbury semi acoustic jazz guitar- stunning for the price under £500 and feels very much like my Gibson ES335 but easier to play.

I cant believe this shop is getting more bad reviews than good. I used to go in there a couple of years ago and just loved the atmosphere. Musical people popping in just for a chat - it had a real buzz about it. And I found the staff really helpful. Use this shop!

Their website said they were open Monday - Sunday apart from Christmas day, boxing day and new years day. Tried ringing up to check they had the instrument we wanted and the voicemail didn't indicate they were closed. Ended up making a wasted trip.

My experience in this music store was quite positive. The staff showed me different types of flutes that are not available in London’s most popular music stores. They showed me passionately how to play each flute highlighting the differences between them.
The feedback was quite honest when the staff have recommended me a flute for beginners instead of what I was looking for which is very professional.
Staff have given me enough time to try other different instruments with no pressure. They enlightened me with the background of each like the greek and turkish.
There is one of the best oud fixers at this stores. Many ppl travel from Lebanon just to fix theirs at Hobgoblin store.
I guarantee you that ur experience in this store will be very pleasant. ????????????

I've been here twice, and both times the staff was kind and helpful with me. They can suggest what's better for you, and they can make you feel "comfortable" while you're inside. The prices worth the quality and the rarety of the instruments, and you can find lot traditional stuff like books of old irish/scottish songs or instruments like lutes, banjos etc. Happy to be back there!

I'd heard good reports about this place, but was spectacularly underwhelmed on my visit.
On the positive side, they have a very extensive collection of acoustic instruments in stock.
Now to get negative.
The staff are quite disinterested in assisting customers and going the extra inch let alone mile. Their mantra for any customer entering the shop was to go and try out whatever they felt like. No attempt at a personal service or any advice.
The biggest problem is that this lack of care attitude can also be seen in their instruments. I tried a few and my fingers were instantly turned black from old, cheap unplayable strings. In addition, the action on one instrument, worth a few hundred, was so bad that the difference between an open bass string and second fret was a full minor third. (Extremely sharp, badly out of tune and unplayable!). I tried a few more instruments and realised that there was a pattern here and promptly left.
Quite honestly, unless you're buying a REALLY cheap instrument, you would expect to see some love shown to their stock. I know small family run shops in North London that treat their instruments better.
I really don't see why I should have to pay good money to have a brand new instrument be sent to a guitar technician to fix in order to make it playable. I might as well buy off the internet - and I wouldn't recommend that either! Not with instruments.
A real shame as I had high hopes for my trip and had allocated quite a few hundred to make a particular purchase.
