My partner and I visited this place twice recently in order to investigate his interest in concertinas. The gentlemen who oversaw the shop were both very helpful and knowledgeable. One of them demonstrated a type of bagpipe for us. Both times my partner was encouraged to spend time trying out and becoming familiar with the instrument he was interested in.

Me - Elixir please
Staff - Elixir? Why do you want them, no one buys them?
Me - yes I like Elixir strings, they last for years
Staff - OK, what gauge do you want
Me - 10-34 please
Staff - (said with disgust) you play a light gauge mandolin?
Me - (dumfounded) is that a problem?
I could go on but there more to life. Suffice to say this guy was arrogant, rude, and the complete opposite of a salesman. I was planning on buying a new mandolin from this store, I will now not be returning. A real shame as they appear to have a good selection of instruments.

Hobgoblin music is a lovely acoustic music shop in London. It has two floors of high quality music gear including guitars, dobros, ukulele, mandolins, cellos, banjos, and a variety of aisian harps. Hobgoblin has caring and kind staff and a good stock of non instrument equipment such as picks, cables, and capos for all musicans needs. They were very patient with us and it was a great time

This place I love for bringing my son to. He's just at the age where he's learning to love the concept of musicianship and in this place the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and willing to share everything they know and the instruments are encouraged to be used (and they are all in tune).
This reigns better to me than the well trodden Denmark Street haunts.

Great shop slightly off the beaten track, but worth the short walk from Tin Pan Alley itself. Staff are supremely helpful and well informed, they really know their stuff.
This was the only place I could get the strings I wanted, and they are also an exclusive supplier of Ashbury ukuleles, which I've tried out and loved the sound.
Best thing about this store is that the staff actually remember me when I go in, which shows they really do care.

It has a huge selection of musical instruments. I purchased a blow pipe valve for my bagpipe and a Bb penny whistle. The staff were extremely helpful and their website is great.

An exceptional music store. I've never come across a friendlier, more accommodating and helpful group of people than the staff at Hobgoblin. Joe, in particular, was really helpful in assisting me when I was looking for a tenor banjo, but everyone in general made the shop a fun and welcoming place to visit. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

So rarely do you find such a wonderful salesman. I do not even think he was a salesman at all. He was more of a musician. We chatted pleasantly and I told him I was ready to by an electric violin. He could have just given me one of his violins on offer, but after finding out exactly what I needed, he gave me directions instead to another shop. Wow!

A great first time experience! The staff are great and really helped me buy the right guitar as a beginner! I was given free time to strum on a selection of guitars and see which ones fit me best and it was a great environement!

The guy I met today is either the worst salesman in the world... Or a racist, and didn't want to show any welcome due to my ethnicity.
I came here to sell my old oud and buy a new one. He was hardly helpful. Said that it's better to sell my instrument directly to music students not via him.. also said I should buy the new one via my music teacher not him!. was also sarcastic about my knowledge and acted as the arrogant expert..... And made it v easy decision never to come here again or recommend the place.
Also fyi it's not a place for oud. In case this is what u look for, don't come here. They had ONE Oud in the store!! Obviously not their area. They r more of a guitar place and done other bits n pieces.

Wish I could give it more stars! The friendliest, loveliest people you could imagine. Excellent selection of items. I bought a Blue Moon 5 String Banjo, and they completely unprompted gave me a mini lesson on the basics, the numbers for music teachers, an insight into the styles, and a demo of how it can sound.

Every string item you could dream of. I went there to buy a cajon drum and some plectrums and I found great quality. The staff were really nice and helpful and gave me some tutorials and tips.
There was a sign that said "Pick up and play anything" and the shop had a great atmosphere.
