Very disappointing. I came here from Canterbury (an hour on the train plus underground from St Pancras) on purpose to find some walking boots that fit my odd feet, as I had been assured that they had a very wide selection. They didn't. There weren't enough staff; most of those on duty weren't very interested; they didn't use the specialist machine to assess my feet which must have cost quite a lot, so odd not to use it. I'd been recommended this particular shop by two serious walkers as an absolute go-to for walking boots, but I'm afraid I totally disagree. Neither the service nor the selection were any better than a local store in Canterbury. Having found nothing, I went over the road to North Face and found a very helpful and knowledgeable assistant and spent quite a sum of money. If a specialist shop like this doesn't have the right staff, and the right amount of staff, nor do the staff transmit the ethos of the store, what's the point?

Staff were not very knowledgeable, asked for assistance on buying some marathon wear, for a very specific event, they basically just listed all their equipment. You go to a sports shop because you need to seek advice on people trained on the equipment they sell.
They have 2 stars because the equipment they sell is good, its just the customer service that a physical shop provides over a online store was not there.

There is a guy here who loves mountain climbing who is the nicest, chattiest, most knowledgeable guy. I've gone into this store on 3 separate occasions to look at trail shoes, sunglasses and hiking jackets and each time he spent about 20 minutes with me talking about the gear and my needs, and I didn't end up purchasing at the time which I feel bad about. Shout out to this cool dude, wish I knew his name. Thin guy with brown eyes and a dodgy knee that stopped him running. He's great!!

I bought two duffel bags here on Saturday, but when I went home I saw that they cost 95-97£ online, rather than the 150£ per item I spent at Ellis. I ordered one online to be sure its the same quality - -and it was! I called the shop and their response was 'we have overhead like staff and rent'. So my suggestion to you all is - go there, check it out, choose your item - and then Google the price and order it online - you avoid the hassle of carrying your bags home too.

Brilliant if you know what you want. Be prepared to be surrounded by 55 year old "Tarquins" taking their grand children for a fitting of boots for hiking in the foot hills of Kilamanjiro (which you simply must do!!!) But the guys there know there stuff

Very diverse collection of skiing equipment. Not a lot of options in terms of skis as I would have wanted, but the service for ski boots fitting is exceptional.

Knowledgeable staff and great products 'if' you speak to the right person. I was mis sold a pair of walking sticks I specifically informed the Saturday girl at the time I'd be using on Ben Nevis for the 3 peaks challenge. One of the sticks broke on the ascent and when I came back to try and claim a refund or replacement my complaint was referred back to the manufacturer by the store rather than dealt with in house. It then went into a black hole. After chasing I didnt received a refund or repair and have written the sticks off now as it was in the end far too much hassle. Having bought about £700 of kit overall it was a pretty disappointing customer experience. I bought boots and a jacket separately and received great advice from clearly more experienced members of the team, the products also delivered on what I needed. Id go there again but would certainly shop with more caution.

Very good experience buying a pair of walking boots. The assistant, Gopal, was friendly and happy to take a great deal of effort to make sure we got a pair of boots that fit very well, and to check that they did. Much better than some duff advice I have received in Snow+Rock previously.
I have also found that the end of season clearances provide a good opportunity to pick up some good quality gear with discounts.

I visited Ellis Brigham a couple weeks ago a few days before I went on the GR20 trek in Corsica. Having completed the trek I found the advice from the store was spot on. A store member, Gopal helped me source all the essential gear to be fully prepared without including unnecessary kit which would have weighed down my bag. Would thoroughly recommended this store!

Bought a pair of ski touring boots, staff were trying to fit them like alpine (ie piste) boots, which is nuts. Need to be able to hike and skin in touring boots, which requires a longer boot.
