Popped in for first post lockdown libations and lunch. Staff were lovely especially the landlady/manager. Excellent well observed Covid measures, good food and nice ambiance which is an achievement with all the restrictions. Well done Ancient Mariner you're doing a brilliant job in sh*tty times.

By far, the best pub in the area. Service is impeccable. Staff are amazing. Food and drink are marvelous and even better, great value. Layout has been ultimately improved for the pandemic. I cannot fault this establishment. Bravo to all who have made this happen.

Clean, airy & fresh but with character. Lots of IPA's, few Ale's, fireplace with real fire and an antique PACMAN game. What more could you want?!
Also loads of seating inside and out.

Beer selection not the best, only one IPA on that was over 7% (nice but not what you want on a week night). Went for retro games night and had good fun playing only mega drive games.

The Sunday Roasts are fantastic. Great mains, generous portions of meat- cooked to perfection, big variety of veg, and sides that were delicious. Really tasty Sunday roast. The desserts were just as good too. Plus, the staff were really friendly - an all round great roast...recommended!

Cracking pub with a proper old English vibe meets hip kinda feel. Beer was good and plenty of options that you won't find everywhere. Worth a visit. Didn't eat here, not sure what the grub would be like, but worth a pop in for a new taste of beer.

Slightly lacking in evening atmosphere with hugely expensive pint of Ripper ale ( local brew). Not justifiable so can't go back unfortunately. Some music around the (very good outdoor area) decking would help the atmosphere. Nice staff. Perhaps this is a daytime pub.

Friendly staff, book in advanced for large groups, the food is amazing.
Go and get the steak before the menu changes for the new season.
Gluten free is catered for very well. As are Vegetarian and Vegan.

Fantastic craft on usually, good food and nice staff. The craft tends towards the over-expensive sometimes and can be found cheaper elsewhere but on Wednesdays it's 20% off craft beers so there's a bit of balance there. And it's a nice pub, so worth taking the rough with the smooth.

We were visiting friends that moved recently to Hove. The Ancient Mariner is one of their local pubs. Nice addition to Poets Corner. We came only for a quick drink as we've had booking for a restaurant but will be coming back when visiting next time. Lovely, clean pub, nice staff and generous selection of craft beers. Keep it up guys!
