Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, a weekend getaway for city families. A place where young children can learn and explore the rich animal world, as well as the unique flora here. As a long-standing old botanical garden in Asia, this place also has a very unique architectural value. The campus also houses a temple for Hung Kings and a museum of Vietnamese history.

I've been to Saigon Zoo twice in the last two years. I'd urge every adult and child to go there, grab a free map, go everywhere, and see everything. Take some small bananas to hand feed the monkeys, a fan, a camera, and some water, or Revive. The zoo is clean, spacious, and there's a plethora of animals living there. The living conditions for the animals are improving although the food outlets have diminished thanks to the Wuhan Bat Flu.

The infrastructure has still the original French appeal. The Zoo is one of the highlights of Saigon. It's an especially good place to bring your kids with you since there's a fair included and plenty of foods and drinks available.

Nice place to visit and relax. I would like to come late in the afternoon so it would be less crowded. Animals are taken good care of, and I love that there are a lot of plants. Air is clear. There is also a history museum in the area, which holds occasional cultural events.

Cool place to spend some hours with nature and animals. Even if not maintained well, but worthy to visit. Very close to Nguyen Hue walking street.

Its truly wonderful to see these creatures up close in person. They do seem cared for but their little city sized spaces seem small for some. It would be nice if conditions for the animals could be upgraded or expanded and given more maintenance. The amusement park rides were not in operation, yet their motionless presence offers intriguing character and backdrop for the plants and animals. The sweet fragrance of the many flowering plants enhanced the experience of observing the animals. Many big old trees provide wonderful high canopies to walk or sit under. Didn’t have time to see the entire park but I would definitely return. Of course not perfect, this seems to be a good zoo.

Best place to visit the wild animals in Saigon. The staffs here are super friendly. Hope more people can visit Saigon zoo in this pandemic time to help them overcome the situation. Some of animals are lack of food spbthe staffs have to reduce 30% of their income to donate food for the animals. We gotta give them a hand by visiting them or donating them in their website. Love to see it can be better and better day by day.

I loved this place as a kid and I love this place now. So many stray cats though... so if you go with kids, bring some cat food go feed them, the cats are curious and friendly.

Pleasant place to please the kids as it has an amusement park with Ferris Wheel and other rides. The orchid area is small but you will see some splendid blooms. There’s a museum on the grounds for an added fee above the fee entry to the zoo and garden. Your time here is better spent than the tunnels.

I'm quite torn when reviewing this place. Firstly, I have to declare my bias as I am in no way a fan of Zoos. Saigon zoo is nestled amongst an impressive botanical garden and features some impressively large trees and picturesque walking paths. On the whole, the animals I saw were in reasonably good shape. They were well fed and seemed healthy but, and this is a big but, many of the enclosures were not adequate for the type of animals housed in them. The lion and tiger enclosures was particularly distressing and the bear enclosure, although open and landscaped with waterfall etc, was small. The price was very economical and the if you can get past the fact that it's full of caged animals the gardens are very pleasant. Can't really recommend this place except to say that without paying customers there is no money to care for the animals.

Didn’t love this experience so much... don’t know if it has to do with the virus panic but animals are not being cared for and seem lacking energy. Huge park and nobody in it, everything is shut down and nobody really working there but was still forced to pay for a park which was closed? “I’m only posting for awareness of the animals” I would have chosen not to support what so ever if I knew more initially.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, established in 1865, is Vietnam's largest zoo & botanical garden. It was super packed & crazy busy when we went. Enjoyable for the kids and thats about it. As far as zoos go, the residents are kept in dismal conditions at best :(

2 stars due to skinny looking animals. I understand that we cannot compare them to the zoo back home but this is animal cruelty on a certain level. Did not completely hate it as I noticed the zoo keepers being gentle with the animals. Butterfly park had a measly amount of Butterflies flapping around. They were all either eaten by the salamanders we saw or, they died from kids plucking out their wings whilst their parents watched proudly. Tiger, lion, leopard enclosures were a joke. You could clearly see they were agitated. Most of them were pacing up and down, a white tiger pounced onto the glass after prowling towards us. Hippo had nowhere to move. He had two options, stand still in the water or out of the water. Bird cages were disgusting, toucans stuffed into cages no wider than their wing span. I refused to take a photo of them. Macaws were packed into cages with other birds. The Gazelles were beautiful. Even though they looked starved their enclosure was the right size for them. Defeats the purpose. The only enclosure we approved of was the deer enclosure. It was huge and deers looked fed. Surprised to see some wildebeests in there. Hyenas were curled up into a ball. Neither of them looked healthy. Clearly most of the animals were sleeping off their starvation. The worst part of this whole experience were the locals. They were throwing rubbish into the enclosures, screaming and banging the cages. Children and adults were petting the goats a little too hard, feeding paper from the bin to the goats. They were banging on the glass of all the enclosures and the zoo keepers did nothing. Hippo and Crocodiles were hit with one or two plastic bottles. They threw random leaves into the elephant enclosure which the Elephants scurried to eat. It was truly a pathetic sight. And to make things even more ridiculous, there was a show going in the middle of the zoo blasting loud techno music, which kept startling the monkeys driving them into a screaming frenzy. I hope this review gives you a perspective of what your experience would be like. Best not to patronise this zoo. There are many other things to look at in Ho Chi Minh.

A great day out with plenty of activities to keep children occupied. Large selection of animals which appear to be very healthy and well cared for. Botanical gardens are a pleasure to see especially the orchid section. Well worth a return visit, as the extra bonus is the Ho Chi Minh Historical museum located within the Zoo grounds

It is family amusement park with zoo areas, facilities for the kids, funny water-cycling along a small "river" and a performance stage. You will definitely see cute and energetic kids and so many happy faces here. Recommend!

One could feel sadness in the air. . Enclosures are small, dirty and no water in them .. it looked like the enclosures are not maintained and most definitely it is not a great way of keeping animals. Heartbroken

A good range of animals, however most of the enclosures were very plain concrete with little to no greenery for the exhibits, leaving them undernourished, bored and sad. We weren't offered a map at the entranve, making it confusing to try to follow the signs scattered around the park. Rats were everywhere inside and out of the enclosures, making it a less pleasant experience than it could have been. Really cheap entrance fee, would have been happy to pay more if it meant better living conditions for the animals.

Great zoo, very good value for money at 50k per person. Took me 2 hours to see everywhere. Very big space to walk around, many types of animals and alot of nature to relax with and enjoy. Those that gave a poor review are probably against the concept of zoos so I don't know why they bothered going. Most of the animals had enough space and seemed fine.

Nice place to visit. It’s not the most up kept place but the grounds have many beautiful, wide avenues with beautiful trees and flowers. They do not have a storage locker for belongings which you want to keep from lugging around. However you can pay for someone to “keep an eye on” near the entrance by the motorcycle parking lot.

We came for the botanical garden - it is very beautiful. Lots to see and the gardens are well maintained. However, the zoo part I didn’t really enjoy. The giraffes looked content but 3/5 of the elephants were swaying non-stop, a lot of people thought they were “dancing” but they were stressed. The enclosure was clean but it wasn’t that big

I really liked this zoo, the animals looked happy and well looked after. Couple of the cages could be a bit bigger. I really liked the monkeys and the birds. Definitely worth a visit if only to escape the hot city. Very good value for money.

Not a luxury place to go but a relaxing area to walk around and look at animals or human actively enjoying each other. It is a big place so you should bring some camping stuff to have a good afternoon together or take a rest.

Thought there was going to be some education about animals on captivity. None. The elephants are in a very distressed state doing the typical rocking back and forth. Very disturbing.????

Great zoo in my eyes. Could get very good pictures of animals behind the see through plexiglas. Great variety of animals, just now occurred to me that I missed seeing lions but they had a few different tigers there. Amazing walking paths above gnu and nyala grounds and snake/turtle/lizard area. Had some very cool looking leopard cats. Great place to spend couple hours at, took me over two hours to stroll through while taking plenty of pictures.

Would be better if there's a fancier diner/restaurant. Not many animals left here. Great green ambient though. There's a train to take you go around the zoo, but it charges separately from entrance ticket.

Variety of animals, butterflies, birds and botanical bird. I wished that they feed more some of them that looked a little bit skinny and make more space for crocodiles that looked unconfortable there

Incredibly badly maintained zoo. Felt like walking inside an abandoned zoo. Most animals had concrete ground in their cages, with little to no recreational surroundings for them. The water in the cages was green and looked filthy. The zoo is a combined botanical garden, zoo and amusement park with some carousels for children. Entrance fee is very cheap, only 50000 VND, but I do wish it was higher so they could care for the animals in a better way.
