The zoo is rather big, the nature is beautiful but the animals look very unhappy, they are almost skinny in very dirty and poor conditions. On weekends there are vietnamese animations with a very noisy music that spoils the whole atmosphere. However, the birds are nice, the garden is beautiful. Nice museum to visit in the entrance. The animals all looked skinny like they haven’t been fed properly, the only animals that looked fed enough were the elephants but that’s because tourists could pay to throw food into the enclosure to feed them.

Spent a leisurely morning strolling the zoo and botanical gardens. Not the biggest or the best in the world but a very solid effort and highly enjoyable. Only downside is there is no map when you enter so you wander and take it in. Fairly small in size so not a huge problem. Everyone was very hospitable to me - a six foot tall white haired US citizen. Well worth the time and the small admission fee.

This zoo and botanical gardens are very pleasant and there is a lot to see. I noted a lot of comments from people talking about poor conditions, but think they are comparing it to Nice US zoos, which is not at all what Asia is like. The zoo is one of the best I have seen in Asia and we really enjoyed ourselves and would say it is certainly worth a visit. You can easily spend a couple of hours here walking around and still not see everything. True it could be cleaned up a bit, but certainly a far way from being in poor condition. I would recommend spending the 50K VND entry fee to check it out.

The zoo is not great for animals but those who would like to see the real Vietnam must visit it. You can see the bonding in Vietnamese families . Children’s reactions after watching real animals are fantastic and cannot be described in words. The enclosures are not comparable to modern day zoos , yet there is a wide variety of animals kept in the zoo. The ticket price is 500000 vnd for foreigner plus three hundred thousand for the train ride inside the zoo.

This place was really cool due to its fragile condition. Kind of abandoned feeling. Some cages had a big mix of animals. Small monkeys ran freely in and out of their cages. And the display of a restaurant during the was in plastic inside a dark cage freaked us out. Haha good fun.

A nice place to date and we can see lots of couple inside the zoo. It was that good for the zoologist though as there is not a large variety of animals. The entrance fee is 50000 Dong.

[Garden] We initially just wanted to take a look into the botanical garden but the ticket office told us that you get access to both, the zoo and the garden after purchasing a ticket. The garden by itself was nothing special ... actually a little bit disappointing. Comparable place in Singapore / Kuala Lumpur are much more worth it. [Zoo] Well actually you can see a lot of animals in this zoo but we were not really happy how they were treated. It is a hard decision if you will support this or not - we did. But we would not do it again. You can expect to see snow leopards and white tigers. Quite rare in Europe. It will take about 1,5-2h to go through this. S

Considering that animals are kept there this is a very depressive place to be. Botanical garden and Zoo are blended together.!!! Signs are in Vietnamesse no any signs in English. It like going a trip and hoping for the very best to happen. Animals can easily do with more green and cleaner water. Really sad place to be.

It was a sad sight. The animals are not well kept. Most enclosures are too small with very little water given the heat. Funny since there is a massive kid's pool full of water. It feels more like an amusement park with animals than an actual zoo. Very little educational information. Also the flowers are mainly natives that don't need much upkeep anyway. Litter everywhere, even in the enclosures. There are bins everywhere so I don't understand why there is so much litter.

Lovely places to take kids to. They will surely love the animals there. I noticed great efforts to keep the zoo clean and the animals in good shapes from the staffs. There were lots of rubbish bins but people still threw rubbishes everywhere. It's pretty common in public locations in Vietnam though. Be ready for a bit of walking and bring enough water. It's easy to get dehydration in the hot tropical weather. You can purchase bottled water around the garden (make sure you put them in the bins when you finish). The other reviews talked about "animal cruelty" surely because lacks of knowledge about Zoology. Animals don't need to be fed all the time. They require a balance diets like humans do. They can have all kinds of obesity, diabetes, heart problems... due to excess feeding. There're not much space for them, but given that it's in the centre of a 15 million population city, with about 7 million visitors every year (2019) and population density of about 5000/square kilometre; the animals are enjoying much better spaces than a lot of humans in that city. It's a much bigger problems than nice and clean and open Zoo people saw in other developed countries. I met two zoo specialists from the UK working on providing consultancy to the Zoo on that day and asked them about the electric steel lines, the small captive spaces... Etc... And in the words of professionals, they told me those were pretty good and reasonable solutions for the animal welfare given all the conditions abd circumstances. Now people can say that better not keeping them, but it's another point. Not everyone can go watching lions in the wild, right? Either they will cost exorbitantly or death is part of the T&C. This Zoo is doing a good job with all the conditions and infrastructures they have. And they're trying to improve by the fact of hiring Zoologists from other countries for consultancies. We can hope for a better future.

Animals are a bit tired looking and few, but for first time for 21 mo. old was fine. Had a few kiddy rides and small water park perfect for our 2 kids while we enjoy a picnic and relax 1/2 day get a way.

Run down and old. Was not impressed. How they treated the animals was almost inhumane it was a cage fest of the lowest. If you have respect for animals. I would not recommend going to this zoo. Its really really really bad. It almost makes me want to cry how inhumane they are. Being able to walk with the flimingos was the only thing that seemed to be alright. Also the night market nextdoor was amazing and had lots of great food.

So it's hard to recommend because of how sad some of the animals are treated. This place is very large and you can easily spend half a day or more here. There is lots to see for the 50,000 dong cost. There are lots of animal exhibits all through the park. Some of them are very nice. Then there are others that are far more cruel. Don't go see the apes, lions, tigers, otters, or bears; you might get depressed. Although it's a botanical garden, plants really don't play an important role. Little kids have a fountain area that they can play in. The food at the park was okay and cost the same as you would pay elsewhere. The park is also really big so be sure to wear real shoes. You can spend extra for paddle boats, kids amusement rides, a bubble you can roll in the water in, and other various activities.

Do not miss this zoo. This is worthy to spend your time. Enternace fee is 50.000vnd. But this zoo has a big scale more than you paid. Mostly vietnam children and parents visit here. There are cute giraffes. And you can buy a some giraffe food, carrots, banana. And before go in, there is 'Vietnam History Museum" on left side. And right side Hung king's temple.

Enjoyed my visit to the zoo here in ho chi Minh city. It was very interesting for me to go into the bird cage and see the birds face to face. I went here during week days so wasn't crowded at all so it was nice to stroll through. Doesn't really have snack bars so bring enough water and snacks so you could enjoy the time fully. There were some construction and remodelling going on in the zoo, and some cages were empty. Refer to the zoo map if you want to see all animals there. But I felt bad for the zoo animals coz of small cages and abnormal animal behavior... Don't really like seeing animals in cage ..:(

Nice Zoo and Botanical Gardens with an amusement park. Nothing outstanding but a nice diversion from the normal tourist sites for a few hours. Shaded and plenty of restaurant/drink stops. A bargain at only 50,000 VND.

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, established in 1865, is Vietnam's largest zoo and botanical garden. Located on Nguyen Binh Khiem Street in District 1, T.P. in Ho Chi Minh City, it is home to over a hundred species of mammals, reptiles and birds, as well as many rare orchids and ornamental plants.[1] Also within the grounds is the Museum of Vietnamese History, housing some 25,000 artifacts of history, culture and ethnography of South Vietnam. The grounds also include a temple to the Hung Kings (formerly a monument to Indochinese soldiers who died for France during World War I). Other parts of the zoo are divided into animal and plant conservation areas, an orchid garden, and an amusement park.

The biggest zoo in Vietnam with various types of animals. You can see birds running around. Feeding goats and elephants. It's quite fun to bring your kids there. There are shows for kids also. But the facilities and condition for animals is not good.

The animal enclosure feels too run down and too small for the animals. The Flora and fauna is not bad. 50000VND (SGD$3) which is very affordable. The deer enclosure was the only one that felt big enough for the animals. The rest was just saddening to see. The weather was so hot that it changes a bit of the mood too, even the reptiles are hiding in the shade.

HORRIFIC CONDITIONS FOR ANIMALS. This place needs to be shut down. I wasn’t expecting western standards for the animals to be kept in, but this was absolutely awful. Walked around in tears looking at the horrific conditions these poor animals are kept in. Only around 20% had access to water, and what they did have was stagnant and dirty. Most pens were concrete with no mud, dirt, plants, or even water-nothing except concrete. The poor tigers were pacing round their tiny, filthy concrete pens and as for the poor sun bear which was desperately begging for food but having rubbish thrown at him...awful. And I can’t even bear to think about the reptile area. Not one of them had any water, none whatsoever. I only took photos with the intention of sending to any and every animal charity I can think of around the world. Anyone who thinks this place is good to visit this seriously misguided. DON’T VISIT. **Anyone who does visit and is as horrified as I was, please contact Born Free and make them aware**

The visit to this place was quiet disappointing, its is pretty run down and I really felt bad for the animals there. They looked sad and seem like they were not sufficiently cared for. The whole place gave a very desolute vibe. There were a lot of cages that we're empty and a few existing animals seemed like they were unwell. Sincere request to the Vietnamese govt to chanellise some funds and up this place. There is no proper map to help visitors navigate around the place. The tickets were for 50k almost all shops and coffee centres inside we're shut and looked abondoned. There is a lot of work and care required here or the place will die it's own slow death.

We visited early September so off peak. Not a lot of choice for food at this time. So bring something with you as choices are limited. The zoo was practically empty. The condition of the animals seemed to be ok. Our visit was abandoned due to a massive midday storm and hunger pains.

We went there on a Wednesday morning which was not crowded and enjoyable. A mixture of botanical gardens, zoo and amusement park for children. Animals seem well taken care of with a limited budget. Would be nice if they could upgrade the place and give the animals better accommodations.

Bad: They think less about the animals and their well being. They get a pretty decent crowd and they charge for all the fun activities as well. So they should have done better. Almost feels like an amusement park, rather than a zoo Not maintain the animal description boards, almost all of them faded away They are not cleaning the cages well enough. Good: Botanical garden. The zoo itself is the botanical garden and they have well maintained it. To enjoy the the garden you need to pay attention to it The facilities provided for visitors: amusements, cafes, relaxing areas Hints: Open- 7 am to 6.30 pm Ticket price (adult) - 50,000 VND Children Zoo- 1000 VND for one bunch of leaves to feed the animals/9.30 am to 10 am Elephant Show- 9.00 am to 9.30 am (Saturday, I have no idea about other days and evenings) Musical Performance- 10 am to 12 noon

Fees: 30kvnd for children <1.3m and 50kvnd for adults. Experience: Don't know whether it's a zoo or an amusement park, non-diversity animals but lots of entertaining games for kids. Animals are nearly skinny and unwell. There's an interesting VN history museum at the entrance with just 2000vnd entrance fee.

Despite all the bad reviews I decided to visit the zoo and was pleasantly surprised. Very peaceful place and the animals appeared well looked after. Quite a large range of many species to see. Takes around 2 hours to walk around if you have no children with you. If you have children there is an amusement park for them to enjoy as well as the animals. Very cheap entrance fee. I would go again if I was in the area.
