If you are considering a “man with a van” in the Brighton area then I would highly recommend renting your own van instead. I have used man with a van multiple times however it’s expensive, often late, damage Goods, aren’t strong enough and can often be rude. Recently I have discovered Strafford vans; it’s easy, the best customer service, organised and gives you the extra budget to employ the people you trust personally to load and unload your personal items. The van we hired was £61 for the day, was clean, had air on (as it was hot) and DAB radio. Man with a van quoted £455 leaving me with nearly £400 for trusted friends labour and drinks after. I hired a motorhome for 4 days, it was my first time hiring/driving a motorhome. Charlie was great and talked me through all the details of the vehicle and I felt very confident using it. The process was really straightforward and well handled. The vehicle was in great condition and drove really well, it was very easy to manoeuvre, despite it's size. We had an amazing time and will definitely use them again in the future. Wonderful service!

I needed to rent a van for a festival I was involved in over Halloween. Phoned up and spoke to Frazer who quoted me a brilliant price for the 4 day long weekend. Collected the van which was a 64 plate ford (I was even able to connect/CHARGE my iPhone to it via USB). What more could you want from a van hire? Hired a car from Stratford’s while visiting Brighton for a short vacation. I was very impressed with the sales advisor on the phone who took the original booking, the staff in the reception and the people who took the car back at the end. We returned the car without cleaning it and we’re not charged any extra which is rare for hire car companies in the UK. The site is easy to find and easy to walk from Brighton station (took us around 10 minutes at a slow pace). The car was a 2017 model so around 6 months old. It was very clean and easy to use. Upgrading to an automatic car was not a problem whatsoever and they had availability to do so that same day. It is unlikely I will return to Brighton however if I did I would 100% return to Strafford for my hire car or van. Thanks once again. Don.

Borrowed a van hire from Strafford’s for 2 days. Was given a full sized 18 plate Luton van for under £100 a day which is very competitive bearing in mind I was travelling high mileage. Managed to get my job done in good time and returned slightly early. Very friendly staff. Nice and clean van. Will be back. Ian

Me and a few of my friends used Strafford Self Drive to hire a van to transfer our belongings to university halls. The price was student friendly and it was easy to book online. The staff were very accommodating and made the whole experience a lot less stressful. I will definitely use Strafford again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

I hired a minibus from a Saturday to Monday. Price was very good, the vehicle was cheaper booking online and in advance. The vehicle was in excellent condition and I thoroughly enjoyed driving it. The paperwork and handing over of the keys took less than 10 minutes as did the return. I highly recommend Strafford Self Drive. I will be hiring from them again..

I first used them when I lived down there and needed to move house, they were great with advising on the size of the van I needed. I then found out they do MOT's and got my car checked here, again great honest service and was always welcomed with a smile. Would definitely recommend and use again. Tom

We used Strafford on a short hire to collect jumble for our jumble sale. It was clean inside and out, which meant the collected items stayed clean too. The van was efficient and powerful enough for our needs. And it was excellent value for money too.

Hired a motorhome from them to go to France. The boiler didn't work so we couldn't use the shower in the motorhome. Didn't get any refund on the hire or even a refund on the two gas bottles which we bought through them that we couldn't use. Gave up calling them trying to get a refund as they kept ducking calls and not calling me back. I'm just thankful that it was just the boiler that was broken. If it was something mechanical, given their lack of support on the boiler where they asked me to find a motorhome boiler mechanic in France somewhere and they'd refund me the cost, I'd probably be significantly out of pocket or just have been left stranded in France with all our clothes, two dogs and two bikes to get back to the UK somehow. I'd never use them again. If anything goes wrong they have no customer support. The reply that has now been added to this review is not accurate in a number of ways. We made a number of calls for assistance with the boiler whilst abroad. When we did get hold of them we followed all the steps given to us including resetting the control panel, turning things off and on again and reviewing all the steps shown in the manuals but none of them fixed the problem which is why they told us to try and find a repair facility whilst on holiday. This would have taken time out of our tour around France, possibly having to rebook a campsite whilst work was done, possibly having to move out of the motorhome and hire separate accomodation and would have left us having to paying for all of this as Staffords had no maintenance contract or support network for us to call on whilst away. They actually asked us to find a mechanic and to pay rather than offering to sort any of it out for us and said they'd reimburse us when we got back but given that Staffords never gave us any compensation for the inconvenience of loaning us a vehicle with a faulty boiler or for the tanks of propane which we bought off them and didn't use I strongly suspect that we'd also have been left out of pocket for the repair work. I made a number of calls for a refund and either got fobbed off that so and so was busy or just left ringing out. I don't tend to leave reviews let alone 1 star reviews but I felt so strongly that we'd been left high and dry by Staffords as soon as we'd paid them and driven off the parking lot. They don't seem to have any real interest in serving their current customers, it just seems like an inconvenience to them hence their attitude to push the blame to the customer as being ignorant, not following instructions and then offering a rather meagre 1 day discount on a fresh week-long hire as if someone feeling strongly enough to leave them a 1 star warning others of their customer service would want to fork over hundreds more pounds upfront on the hope that they'd get any better treatment the second time around. Look elsewhere If hiring a motorhome to go abroad I'd insist on seeing everything working fully before leaving and checking that if you break down abroad or miles from home that they have a service which will get your whole family and all your belongings back home and that there would be a refund on your hire. I could well imagine that being your problem to fix and when we went away we had 2 dogs, 2 bikes, a trailer and clothes so heavens knows how we'd have got all it back from France.

The website of Stafford Self Drive didn't work very well, but I was (very) satisfied with the car rental. Friendly people, easy going, no fussing as with large car rental companies. However, the car could have been cleaned better - found things/waste of earlier costumers in the car. On the other hand, no experience with their damage and insurancy policy.

A group of us hired a camper van from here back in the summer for an off the radar festival and it was perfect, nice and new, in fact I think it was this years model. My friends made loads of enquiries from other places and this company were not only the best value but the camper we were given had a brilliant layout, they showed us how everything worked so more than happy. I really remember the large fridge which kept our drinks lovely and cold for our stay. We are now looking to book with them again for next year.

We hired the Fiat Tribute motor home for a few days, 2 adults and two 7 year old children. It was our first time in a motor home and we all very much enjoyed our time with it. It was great to drive and it was comfortable for us to stay in and sleep in. we drive to Devon for a few days then to Dorset for a few, it was easy to pitch up and use all the facilities on bored. Myself and a couple of friends rented the mini bus for a festival instead of getting bus. Was a great decision ! The mini bus itself was great brand new spacious. The price was decent spilt between us. The service was great we didn't have any problems with the company they were very helpful even gave us direction to our destination. Will most definitively be using this company again. A+++

I was put in a nightmare situation as I was moving house and was let down by the removal company. Urgently needed a large van at short notice and on a budget, Strafford delivered on both counts. Was greeted on collection by a lovely receptionist who promptly dealt with the paperwork and walk around of the vehicle. She even offered me a free upgrade as the vehicle I originally booked was returning at a later date. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the vehicle for the price I had paid. Staff are very helpful and understanding as I found out on calling to extend the hire and on returning the vehicle. Also Roy was only too happy to have a chat about scooters. I would be happy to recommend and hire from again.

It was the first time in brighton for me, and I needed to rent a van to transport my stuff from my friends home to my new house. Basically I just googled it and i booked through their website, clear, easy and fast! In half an hour i got my van with a full tank and a chocolate mint on the drivers seat. The service was clear and fast, and the van was absolutely perfect. In the end I returned it later than was expected, and they didn’t even charge me for that because it was less than an hour! Definitely I am absolutely happy with my choice, best rent-a-car in Brighton!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with these guys. I booked two weeks in advance, turned up on the morning I had booked for and was told that they didn't have a vehicle for me. According to the one guy in the office on a busy Monday morning, I was one of about roughly 5 people that he was going to have to disappoint. There was no organisation and communication at all, it was a complete joke! In addition, they never responded to my email (see attached photo) insisting to be compensated for having to book something a lot more expensive as it was such short notice and we were desperate. I repeat NO RESPONSE AT ALL. You'll get drawn in by the price but they will let you down, you've been warned!
