This is the best hire car company I've used, certainly the best in Brighton which can be a bit of a nightmare to drive around. Accessible on foot and by car. Out of hours drop off. Fast track pick up. Helpful staff, well organised and lots of cars...I never have a problem booking. One downside is the website, but just call the office and get booked in no time. Great service. No hassle.

Very friendly and helpful! I've hired here quite a few times now, so they know my face, and they always make sure to keep the service consistent. If you are able to call them directly, I recommend that. There's usually some money you can save that's not obvious when booking on the website.

Friendly and extremely helpful staff! This is at a convenient location in the town centre. They have a good collection of cars across sizes and brands. The car we were given was spic and span. The pick up process was simple and reasonably quick. The return process is also fairly easy and reasonable. They also offer the facility of 24/7 return.

Love the service, lady on the desk is so friendly and helpful, even considered sending her a Christmas card! Very relaxed on return times/nicks compared to other more budget rivals which makes you feel relaxed. Great newish fleet and frequent upgrades. Recommended 100%

Booked and paid for a car to get home (5 hour drive) but when I arrived I was told they didn't have a car available, had already checked out of my hotel so ended up stuck in Brighton until enterprise could sort me out. No apology from staff or attempt to help to sort other cars. staff also asking personal questions on why I needed to get home so soon and why the other people I worked with didn't need to travel the same areas.

We had to wait 1 hour until we got our car. They had not enough cars at first. Another couple had to wait 3 hours. One customer booked a car for 11 am and was late. So they gave his car away. First they offered to give us a bigger car and charge us more. By coincident a car came back earlier so we got this one. The car was bigger than booked and was nice. We booked until Thursday afternoon. They told us we can also give it back Friday and it's the same price. That was nice.

Spoke to someone called 'Steve' who was completely unprofessional and rude to me regarding dropping off courtesy car beyond unhelpful. I would completely avoid these I've used the Hove Enterprise before and they are leaps and bounds ahead of this poor service!!!

Rental car was good. Service was excellent. When I said "I need to be at Gatwick in one hour" they pulled out all the stops and I was driving away about 5 minutes later. I was very grateful for that. Out of hours return also worked well.

Just horrible snobby people like the rest of the reviews say. I went in to ask what time they closed on Xmas eve. 4pm. WHY? Shouted the lady, my first thought being what's it got to do with you. I said I was going to hire a car and she said oooooo you haven't heard the price yet and I've only got one left, it's going to be very expensive. She should check with her partners. I was about to book online with veygo for £93 for 5 days. Europcar online were quoting over £300. Daylight robbery. Shop around is my advice but avoid this Europcar like the plague.

All you want to do is go and pick up your car and go do what you have to do. I was offered an upgrade for £12.00 extra per day... You need to stop the upselling when you get to the counter. You're better served asking people how they are and hoping they have a great day. This sales tatic need to stop "it's really annoying". I feel like you're saying what extra can we fleece this customer for...

I have given one star as I cant put zero. Appalling!!! I rented a car online at 12:45 on Friday. I paid for that rental and was due to collect the car on Saturday morning. At 16:45 hours on Friday afternoon I received a call from the branch cancelling the booking stating that they were 6 cars short and were cancelling all bookings for that day. Despite this I was able to go online and I stopped counting when I reached 23 cars showing as available to me to hire for the same period - over 23 cars that other people could book and pay for only to be told AFTER THEIR MONEY HAD BEEN PAID that in fact there were no cars. I called the head office to be told that their system showed cars available at the branch. In addition to this the man that called me was really rude. It is now Tuesday and I still don't have that money back. I have called the branch and the man just repeated 3-10 working days, 3-10 working days! Its 2 weeks before Christmas, YOU advertised cars that were not available, YOU took payment for a car that was never going to be available and now you are delaying giving my money back!!! Fraud? I think so. You get away with it because you are a business. I will never use this company and will ensure I advise anyone I know against doing the same.

Fast friendly staff and the car was fine. No real complaints. It is tricky getting in and out as it is smack in the centre next to the shopping centre so parking is a challenge. Recommended if you are arriving in Brighton by train as it is only a 10 minute walk downhill.

I've been a regular costumer for the last few years, but I am never going to book with Europcar again. I had to wait over an hour for my car (even though I had prebooked - all I had to do was collect the keys). My advice is to get more desk staff as everyone waiting was very unhappy - the lady is pleasant though, and it's not her fault. I have since been 'fined' £40 for an email Europcar have sent me for a PCN I received - this is so extreme and such a rip off! It's just an email after all and the car only cost £35 to hire for the day. But I guess this is how you make your money... I have since tried to pay for the admin fee, but your costumer service team hung up on me. I suppose I'll wait for another email to be sent, eh? Ridiculous. There are so many more other car companies to choose from in the Brighton area where none of this happens.

Had good experiences - used to rent here exclusively - fast at handing out cars, not too bothersome with wear and tear. Unfortunately they forgot to explain how to return a car after a rental period when the office is closed at all, until I asked, then did not explain it accurately, resulting in unfair charges. Unfortunately as I had no proof (obviously) that they explained it inaccurately, I was unable to fight this. Will not be renting from here anymore. Added: Contacted customer services right away who simply said they were not there so they cannot say anything and the branch claimed to say all (obviously)

Never again Europcar Brighton! We returned our hire car with a 100% full tank. A few days later an unexpected £30 appeared on our credit card. I was told on the phone the tank was 9 litres short of fuel. I asked for this to be investigated and we were informed that there was an administrative error and it was apparently 3 litres short of fuel which meant an extra pay of £22!!!! Reading through these reviews it is obvious that we are not the only ones having been scammed in this way.... Disgraceful!

I returned my rental car with a full tank and nothing was said when I dropped off the car but I happened to notice an additional fee charged to me card 10 days later... When I queried I checked the booking it showed I was charged £21 for petrol!!!! The staff at the branch are really helpful prior to pickup... The customer services on line or on the phone is appalling !!! I had been using them for 3 X consecutive monthly rentals... and this still received this service... Now taking my 28day rentals to elsewhere...

I've rented a car for an one-way trip to Manchester and I can say that the lady from reception - Alina, was very nice and professional and gave me a good car and also advice. At checkout point in airport the inspection was very quick and my deposit has been returned after 5 days. So I would definitely use Europcar next time.

This is a review about Europcar as a whole, not Europcar in Brighton. The staff at the Brighton branch are lovely and helpful, and I've never had a problem there. However, Europcar online and call centre customer service is appalling. For 3 days I've tried to modify a booking and the website is not working. I've called the call centre 4 times and each person I've spoken to has been incompetent, one didn't even wait for me to tell her the problem she just said "You need to use the website". The online chat is even worse, I didn't reply to one advisor for 2 minutes because I had to leave the room to do something else quickly, so she just ended the chat. Banging my head against a brick wall!

They haven't been able to confirm the address even if previously rented a car with the sane card and address and they let down 5 of my guys that had to go to work in London. And they didn't try to give me another solution possible, just keep repenting they sane things. Very poor customers service

Paperwork said full tank. It was clearly only 7/8ths, so went back in and told them. "It's a French car, they only go to 7/8ths". I kid you not. I just took a picture so that I was alright when dropping it off (I filled it up while driving it, and it did of course go to full). There is also a bug in their website - if you make a reservation as a guest, and then modify it through your account it will create a second booking. If you notice then they will cancel the first one. Then they charge you a cancelation charge of 45.00, even though you've increased the rental. They then promise to return the funds, never do. Over 2 weeks, 7 emails, 2 phone calls, one trip back to the rental place. They don't care about the bug either. They just don't care about the customers. At all. I finally had to charge back through my credit card company. These guys will waste your time until the cows come home. Save your time and rent from somewhere else.

Have hired form Europcar a number of times because I live around the corner and it's just ok. Pricier than other places in Brighton. There is only one exit to the main road from where they are based and on one occasion they were trying to rent me out a car during the road closures for Brighton pride, so I would only be able to drive a 100yards and either get a ticket or get stuck and not be able to get to work P.S. Reply from europcar produced less than zero results. They are literally worse than they used to be two years ago... AVOID

They are quite well priced BUT the car we got had not been cleaned and it seaiously lacked power for motorway driving as it was not at all in the class of car we booked. This On top of this the 12-volt charger did not work so we couldn't use our garmin sat nav. All of these things delsyed us during or travels which caused unnecessary streass. When we were returning to Gatwick and the agent looked confused and he had to go and check with his supervisor which delayed us again!!! It might be worth spending a little bit more angry going with a competitor next time!

The whole time saying she was doing us a favour. The chap that works there was really sweet though couldn't have been more helpful but the women was too abrupt and pushy

I've used them twice and both times they haven't had any cars despite me booking and pre-paying for a compact car in advance. Today they offered me a 9 seater van as an "upgrade". They then shift the blame to other customers for returning vehicles late rather than take responsibility for overbooking. The Ryanair of car hire! but less cheap. To be fair, on the second occasion they did provide a tank of fuel as compensation after I complained. But if you need a car at the time you booked it, use Hertz or Enterprise.

Hired an Astra, used the Dartford Crossing, due to Dart Charge not recognising the number plate I had to enter the details manually. SIX weeks later I get notification of a Penalty Charge from Europcar which they will take the money from my bank account without consulting me about how or why the fine was imposed and without giving me the opportunity to explain or indeed challenge the penalty. Oh and by the way they add a £36.00 "administration fee for the privalage, oh and you can double that as I came back over the crossing. Europcar "customer services" have been very little help and have acknowledged one of my appeals but say that it will take up to eight weeks to sort out. My advice - STEER CLEAR (pun intentional).

Hello, I would like to forward some feedback in regards to additional fees in hope this can be resolved Service on pick up was good, explaination around rental was also good. The financial breakdown was not so good. The lady informed me that to have the medium protection package it would cost me £15 for my whole rental period, this was, obviously not the case. It was 15x3 for the total rental period which was 3 days which was NOT made clear even when I asked. She was rather sarcastic for my liking and I wasn't really taken by her sense of humour considering the car I booked wasn't the car I received to which her response was "you're lucky I have a car for you", which is by any means discusting consider I paid with MY money and I expect a service that I've paid money for... I asked for an explaination around the financial breakdown upon pick up and this was merely 'brushed over' and finding out later on that I had been charged more than I was expecting was a clear aim of theirs. I had many of events coming up and I chose Europe car to assist with these. I find it apauling that even in a world of money importance you still find a way to treat customers who return to you with disregard and unclear information. As an important company for car rentals I feel this should be addressed, not with a generic reply saying how "sorry" you are, but with action. It's quite obvious that this is a common practice within Europcar, so rather than respond with apologies, make a change to your practices so that people actually have good things to say about you...

It was a total inconvenience and embarrassment as I was kept in the dark about this watchlist and administration error. I hadn't even done anything wrong. Will not be using this service again. AVOID

Absolutely disgraceful as a company,if you put your deposit down they'll find anyway to chip away at it b4 you get it back,1"hubcap scratch-&65,undocumented scratch(even though it was there b4 i left?)-charged,3week wait for account to be refunded&numerous unpleasant calls from their brighton office to head office to clear the issue(not resolved)&charges for useless correspondence&to cap it all taking money out of my account to pay for a$36 parking infringement without informing transport for london authority that it's been paid;just spoke to the transport office to hear my bill now stands at $195 outstanding;a 3 day hire was supposed to be $65,if you add it all up my trip to london to see my kids&family will cost over $350 in charges without the stress of getting your deposit back on time;ask yourself is it worth it?never again will i be treated like a cash cow!:-(

All car rental places are the same so sometimes you choose one over another because of convenience. I chose Europcar for its out of hours return facilities because I had to pick someone up at Heathrow and wanted to avoid a) the hastle of parking in Brighton overnight; and b) the possibility of damage happening whilst the car was parked in town. I returned the car to the Europcar parking lot the evening of the day that I picked it up following the out of hours instructions that I had been given. One week later, I checked my bank balance and saw that I had a £100 surcharge from Europcar. I had to call them to find out what this was. Apparently there was a scratch on the car. This surprised me since I had not left the car (this was just a return trip to Heathrow) and I am convinced that there was no scratch either before I picked it up or when I returned the vehicle. It turns out that clients are liable for the car until Europcar checks it in in the morning and therefore that if any scratch arises whilst the car is in their very own parking lot overnight then you are liable for this. I just wanted to give a heads up on this just in case anyone is choosing Europcar for the same reasons as me. Its probably a bad idea since it is a tight parking lot and quite likely to get scratched and you will be charged. The reasons why I give a bad review are not because of this since this was in the small print of the contract and hence it is my fault for not reading it properly. Rather it is the way that this was handled. Charging someone without giving notice of what you are being charged for is a bad modus operandi. Moreover, having to make several phone calls to find out what I had been charged for and to wait for a month to see some photos is just not acceptable. I hope this helps you make your choice.
