After today I will never return to Halfords for my mot and servicing. Let me start from last year, so I had a failure, a broken front coil spring...ok it needed to be changed but being told it would cost £189.00 for only 1 side on a Skoda fabia was such an insult. I went across the road and had both front springs changed for £ 144.00.on asking the receptionist whom I've known after going there annually for 20 years ,he told me these are HEAD OFFICE prices.
Now for this year's mot...failed on 2 rear tyres, I do less than 5000 miles a year only around town, so hardly any wear. Off side rear tyre had 2x 4-5 inch hair line cracks inbetween the central track. Although the tester had said the cord was showing this was ABSOLUTELY not true in both tyre cases. The near side rear tyre showed only a couple of 3-4mm hairline cracks with 4-5 mm tread depth and good tread left . So my windscreen wiper blades were only replaced a few days ago and failed by leaving a SMEAR. I always get an oil and filter changed at the same time, my car was booked in for the 9.30 am slot, so by 1pm this was not done, and no time could be given when it would be.
I requested that I would take the car across the road to another garage and had the tyres replaced,and returned for the retest . I presented the invoice paper work for the new tyres ,but the tester had to check that they had been changed.when I went to collect the "passed" mot certificate the windscreen wipers were still on an "advisory " I explained that there was absolutely NOTHING wrong and the receptionist came out to see and agreed....but the tester refused...I was then told that to have it taken off I would have to pay for a new mot test.
I am 71 years old, and have in the past completely rebuilt cars from top to bottom, I will not drive any car that has any fault, and have never had an accident or insurance claim against me in over 50 years of driving.
I WILL NEVER RETURN TO HALFORDS, AND WILL EXPRESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO GO TO HALFORDS FOR THEIR MOT'S. Since the company has "changed hands" of ownership I sincerely believe that they are RIPPING those people off who do not understand what's going on.
I'm about to call and register a formal complaint to both Halfords and Dept of trade...I hope this helps.

Put my car in for a service and was told I needed breaks and discs changed which I new I did, when I get the quote though I need fell of my chair was quoted £400 + vat to change my front discs and breaks when I got a quote of a local garage they quoted £155 all in I couldn’t believe how much Halfords we’re ripping me off! I would never use this company again. Prices are astronomical. Get a couple of quotes before going here.

Went with a friend to have a battery supplied and fitted they took one look at its location and said it was beyond there capabilities to fit and recommended a Ford dealer fit only, contrary to there own website and there TV adverts even the workshop manager was of no help. I am an ex vehicle technician I personally would not entertain Halfords apart from purchasing motor parts and have them fitted by a recommended garage. Peace of mind.
