Having dealt with the Camberwell office in the past, I recently instructed Mark in the Brixton office to sell my current property. Once again the level of service was exceptional and it makes such a refreshing change to deal with professional and honest people in a process that can be stressful to say the least. Darren was also excellent when dealing with the solicitors and made sure the sale was completed as quickly as possible and any issues were dealt with immediately.

After pulling out of a house 3 days before we were due to move, leaving us effectively homeless and costing us in storage and transport costs, they couldn't even provide the smallest goodwill gesture of returning my holding deposit by bank transfer rather than me having to go out of my way to come back and collect it in cash. I would expect it possible to spare me this one small inconvenience in return for the huge inconvenience I've been put through. Our agent Jon was a nice guy, but manager's policy and lack of apology very disappointing.

Hunters have managed my flat for over a decade. They have been fantastic - providing a consistently first rate service. The team, lead by John Adlam, are very accessible, professional, efficient, responsive and experienced. I really couldn't ask for a better team to work with. I have lived on the other side of the world while they have managed my flat. I trust them to take important decisions affecting the management of my flat if they can't reach me. Their judgement is excellent - I really feel like my flat is in safe hands.

John Adlam of Hunters has been our sole agent for letting our rental portfolio since I was first introduced to him. The relationship has endured long before they came under the Hunters Umbrella which I think was about 5 years ago. They are always happy to go beyond that expected under the agreed instruction to assist wherever they can. Even when things have not gone to plan, John has done his best to mitigate. In my 20+years as a landlord I have never enjoyed a more enduring landlord Agent relationship. We have also used Hunters for Sales and they have successfully completed a great number of sales for us. A big thank you to you all. Long may it last.....

John was repeatedly rude to us throughout the year that we rented a flat through Hunters. His replies to our polite enquiries were either blunt or passive aggressive. As a property professional myself, I would never send the kind of emails that John did to paying tenants, ranging from offensive to downright patronising. I have never had to deal with someone being so rude to me when I am the one paying for their services. He obviously does not enjoy doing the job, or feels he is above lettings. To give an example, we were promised a wardrobe, as stated specifically in our tenancy agreement. When this did not come with the property (bedroom two had no drawers or wardrobe), John demanded ‘buy one yourselves’ – telling us ‘I’ve told you the solution. Take it when you leave. Simple as that.’ This went on for months, during which we received gems such as “you can get a wardrobe for less than it costs for a meal for two”. As we intend on living in furnished flats for the foreseeable period buying our own wardrobe was not a good option for us. During these months we had to keep our belongings in suitcases. Not what you expect when you are paying £1350 per month. When we left the property, we were wrongly accused of breaking the door handle. When we asked for proof, we never received it, and as a result our deposit was halved. We cleaned the property from top to bottom yet John emailed us saying “ I have been in the business a long time and in my view it was disgustingly filthy, but I do have high standards”. This sentence is not only immensely rude but implies that we were living in squalor and have “low standards” which is certainly not the case. If a professional clean was required that is all he needed to say, although I suspect Hunters order every flat to be professionally cleaned as they obviously have a contract with the cleaning company. He also accused us of stealing items from the property, then took over a month to get our deposit back to us. We were incredibly surprised to discover John’s senior position at the agents given his unprofessional attitude and manner – he is undoubtedly giving Hunters a bad reputation. We dealt with several other employees at Hunters Camberwell who were all polite and a pleasure to work with. Unfortunately, due to John’s shocking behaviour, we will definitely not be using Hunters again.

I am John Adlam the lettings manager referred to in the review written by Ms V Carpenter on the 4th October. I will begin by apologising if she felt I was rude to her in any way during the duration of her year long tenancy as Hunters always aim to deliver the highest levels of customer service which I have to say is born out by our 100% independent customer satisfaction survey across both sales and lettings. That said I feel compelled to reply to her owing to a number of glaring inaccuracies and untruths. Firstly a wardrobe was not 'promised'; they were told, as we were told that the previous tenants would be leaving their wardrobe. At the final moment they chose not to do that. The landlady who was very ill at the the time elected not to provide a wardrobe, all of which was entirely beyond our control. Once the landlady got well we persuaded her to provide a wardrobe which she did. The tenants moved in on the 2nd Sept 2017 the new wardrobe was ordered on the 25th September 2017. I have documentary evidence to prove this, so to say they were left without a wardrobe 'for months' and 'had to keep our belongings in a suitcase for months' is entirely untrue. With regards to the condition of the property and deposit deductions: an independent professional inventory company performed the check in and the check out. The check in describes the property as professionally cleaned, carpet shampooed and walls freshly painted. . The check out describes the property as in a very poor condition, in need of various repairs and a damn good clean. In their words not mine it was 'filthy'. I have documentary evidence to prove this. Her deposit was registered and protected by the DPS . Ms Carpenter also claims her deposit was halved. She agreed to the requested deductions and they totaled 17.7% of her deposit. Again her claim is entirely false. I have documentary evidence to prove this. With regards to the damaged door lock and not receiving proof of the that I refer to an email sent to Ms Carpenter on the 13th September 2018 at 1236hrs where I directly refer to that proof as being on Page 4 of the check out report. Again her allegation entirely false. I have to say it is so disappointing in this modern age of communication and the internet that someone can post such spurious untrue allegations that have the potential to detrimentally affect a business that someone has spent so much hard work and years building.

Awful - rude, condescending. Added additional fees without them being in contract. Once contract was signed said that there was no need to contact them ever again and liaise direct with landlord was f issues. Still haven’t received check in itinery - would not use again.
