Being my 1st shopping experience in Nottingham and John Lewis I was extremely disappointed when visiting the furniture section. Looking at the art work for sale and selection of mirrors a young blonde girl was talking to a colleague loudly of how she had been out the night before and couldn't remember coming home and waking up naked. Not the conversation anyone should hear on any shop floor. I walked out. Won't be back. Not a fan. Having been a store trainer for a reputable high street department store I find this disturbing within such a company.

After many a battle with J Lewis over faulty goods the past three and half years you have earned some stars back .went into Nottingham j Lewis friday it was very busy long queues, there were lots of assistants about who asked if help was needed, which being an oldie shopping i can't always find things and can't stand for long so when l asked they told me other tills i could go to, no queues, i purchase two loverly cardigans and a scarf ,advise and help from a gentleman in knife department so another purchase ,at the pay desk there was a black lady with a lovely smile very chatty and friendly ,i hope its the same next time i go in

John Lewis sell quality goods and will even price match. The staff in general are very helpful and polite and cannot do enough to help your shopping experience. This is the exception of one member of staff in the ladies department who had been very rude to me so I avoid her at all costs.

Impact of understaffing : visited our beloved Nottingham store recently at a quiet time of day, midweek. Wanted to purchase some quality kitchen scissors from the kitchen section and understandably they are security locked, so we needed assistance to release them. Waited at least 10 minutes for an assistant to appear, finally approached someone in a nearby section, who abruptly turned us away as she was serving another customer; no attempt to listen to what we needed, or attempt to find someone else to assist. Waited another 5 minutes, tried a different assistant, getting exactly the same response. We gave up on the scissors, but at the haberdashery checkout we mentioned calmly and politely, that they seem to be understaffed and that we hadn't had a good experience. Again, no apology, no attempt to address the problem, just an acknowledgment that they know they are understaffed. Have been faithful customers at this store for 40 years; understand the need to cut staff numbers in a competitive market, but it would be a shame if they lost customers and suffer store closure heaven forbid, due to inadequate staff training

Overpriced 'made in China'. No 'made in Britain' on display. Typical UK department store really - looks after itself profitwise by exploiting the British public through championing cheap foreign imports. Wouldn't buy anything here but in the Victoria Centre it comes in useful by providing a lift between levels so you can avoid the escalators if you have mobility or psychological problems that prevent you using them. The Christmas advert this year is poor so I'm waiting for the January sales for my next look in this place...

I love John Lewis and the two stars aren't directed at the shop itself but at the woman who served me today at the Charlotte Tilbury stand who was the rudest person I have ever met. Didn't want to buy off her at all but I needed that foundation today. I've never had someone make me feel so terrible about myself - she was obviously so insecure and only cared about her comission. I told her I was on a budget and she lined up another 4 products worth £150 saying the foundation would be no good if I didn't buy these too, otherwise I'd have "no hope in looking good in anything". When I said I couldn't afford it atm she sniggered and raised her eyebrows saying "suit yourself" under her breath. Vile

1st visit for years. Had a gift voucher and prepared to treat myself. No shoulders, ruffs to make you look fatter and hem lines thay don't match in nasty thick nylon with extortionate prices. Wanted a dressy jacket or dress came put with a cardy. Lunch there - 12.30. 4 in queue for soup. All told to go and join other queue. 3 staff walked off leaving 2 youngsters well out of their depth serving 3 stations! It took so long lady behind me getting worried as she needed to eat. At least the soup was hot and tasty when it arrived. Star for soup and girl trying her best when on own.

Went to investigate options for a new bed, only one salesman in the bedding department and he completely ignored us - we obviously weren't dressed up enough! Oh well lots of other places selling beds, so we will go elsewhere ????

After checking On-line that the product was in stock we decided to drive into Nottingham Victoria Centre and buy the product outwrite so we could take it home the same day. However after purchasing the product in store that was still indicating that the product was in stock we waited at the collection point for approximately 20 minutes only to be told that the product was in fact not in stock and the earliest it would be available would be Tuesday 20th November. Due to my work commitments we will not be able to collect for at least 6 days. We consider this extremely poor service from John Lewis Ltd. The gentlemen did offer to pay the parking fee for the return to collect our purchase but we believe that the store should provide free same day delivery as soon as the product becomes available.

The bra fitting ladies in John Lewis Nottingham are always fantastic. Never disappointed, excellent customer service. My son has also had shoes from John Lewis and the shoe fitters are incredibly helpful. John Lewis Notts = excellent customer service.

Yes this is a big department store however it's not the most welcoming. You struggle to find a direct member of a team to help you (I hate being passed from person to person). Staff are OK-ish but alot of them pass on the impression you are being a hindrance by asking for help.
