Went for the first time yesterday celebrating a birthday. The lovely, friendly, gorgeous Joe who looked after us was amazing. The food was absolutely gorgeous, fresh, just a pure heaven. We live in London but we will make a point of going again when we are in Brighton. Loved it!

This small gem of a restaurant could be easily overlooked, tucked away as it is in a tiny cobbled Street. But miss this and miss out! Absolutely delicious food. The best steaks outside of the states and a lovely intimate friendly atmosphere with fabulous attentive helpful waiting staff. There are no negatives. Simply the best

Had dinner with my girlfriend at this restaurant on 22/10/2017. Very professional polite service from the waiter. We got the set menu which was reasonably priced and the food was great. (Compliments to the chef). An overall great experience, would come back again!

Great portion sizes steaks were massive. A little undercooked for what we ordered but as we enjoy rare to medium steaks we still enjoyed them. Great sauces.
We ordered tap water but never received it, again not a bother.

Great food, very nice and smiling staff. Fish and chips wasn't greasy which was a good surprise. Relaxed atmosphere when eating outside. Prices more than reasonable.

Food was pretty good and nice atmosphere inside. Food arrived in good time as well. Downside would be the staff seemed pretty stressed/rushed. One of the steaks we ordered was cooked through when a medium rare was ordered, but to the restaurant's credit they quickly produced a proper steak and didn't charge for it. Would be a great experience if the staff perhaps weren't given such a heavy workload?

Excellent family run restaurant in a good location in the Lanes. We went as a family of 5 with the youngest being 9 years old. We arrived absolutely soaked on a rainy evening and we were welcomed in and the staff did their best to help us get dry. Very friendly and the restaurant has a nice cosey atmosphere. We all had steak, which it says is locally sourced and it was perfect! Cooked exactly how we asked, full of flavor and very very tender. Wine was reasonably priced
Toilets upstairs. Will be going again!!

Il Bistro is a nice little place found around the winding alleys in Brighton. We did enjoy our visit, the staff were friendly enough, and the food really was good. The beer choices are poor, with only 2 alcoholic choices available. This is fine, though the place loses points for having bad service. We did take our time ordering, but it took a while for someone to come by to take our order once ready. We were handed our food and then pretty much forgotten about, which made it take a considerable amount of time to get the bill which is always frustrating. The place was not busy by this point, and at the end we were 1 of just 2 tables remaining. Still, recommended for the food alone.

First visit. Enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner. We were made v welcome. Very prompt and friendly service. Keenly priced set menu. My main course - pork fillets in a lovely sauce - was brilliant. Greaaat salads too. Only not so good aspect was his lasagna - neither of us impressed with meat filling which seemed to have breadcrumbs in it. But, we will be back

After mentioning to the manager about the discount served on the Brighton Lifestyle card, he explained that they no longer did the discount, but agreed to still include it as it was still on the Lifestyle list. He then proceeded to personally serve us. Really felt like we were important people by the way the staff treat us. Steak was one of the best I've had on the south coast, bit pricey, but you really get what you pay for here. Good money equals good service and good food. Certainly advise trying this little gem out if you're ever in Brighton

Lovely food, cooked to perfection with friendly atmosphere, however very disappointed to be refused the 2 for 1 Meerkat Meal offer.
We were told by the staff that this was for set menu’s only, even though the offer clearly stated in front of us that set menu’s were excluded.
If we had known this before, we would of gone elsewhere.

Came here during august. The food was ok but nothing special. My fish and chips was ok but the batter was a bit too oily for my liking and the sea bass was well made but it contained bones which my partner wasnt too fond of.
Comfortable little bistro nevertheless but wasnt bowed over unfortunately.

My son and I visited this restaurant on thursday 26 july 2019 after walking a long way round Brighton looking for somewhere to have lunch . The restaurrant had good reviews ,and as my son and I fancied mussels, and we thought the cost was quite reasonable at £11.25 per bowl, as this seemed to be the general price around the area. The girl who served us was lovely ,helpful and charming, aand the food was lovely, but I did get a shock when we got the bill, as we had only also orderd some garlic bread, bread and two soft drinks,
The bill came to over £40! I wondered if the bread had been made of gold dust !

Overrated restaurant with unpleasant service from the staff there. The waiter who served my table on the night of 16 December was extremely rude as he slammed the cutlery on the table. His remarks were sarcastic and uncalled for. I was a loyal customer of this restaurant for many years and this waiter’s actions are appalling. The standards of this restaurant’s food have declined tremendously over the years and I am disappointed with the restaurant. I would not recommend anyone to visit this place if you want your hard earn money to be wasted as the food is not only expensive but mediocre as well. My early Christmas dinner with my clients is ruined.

The set menu is great value; for around 17 you get a starter, a main with sides and a desert. It'll fill you up. Friendly staff (with surprisingly quiet footsteps) , great atmosphere and decent food. Highly recommended!

Extremely terrible service from the waiter because of his snobbish and arrogant attitude. For such a well-known restaurant, my experience here is disappointing. Not only the food took a long time to reach my table, the food is mediocre. As a businesswoman, this place is a waste of my time and would not recommend any locals or tourists to visit this place, if they would not like their money to be wasted.

Shop owner was extremely rude with us and gave us sarcastic remarks, just because we did not order as many meals as the number of people we had (some of us were full and not hungry). Dissatisfaction of shop owner was further shown with the handling of utensils, mumbling "nothing for you" as he kept away extra utensils. He proceeded to make extremely loud noises when handling the utensils. The food was extremely mediocre and not worth the price. Would definitely not reccomend this place to anyone.

Just arrived home from the bistro after a wonderful evening out with my partner. All I can say is wow! As soon as we entered the restaurant the pleasant decorum and homely atmosphere set the scene for an amazing meal. Promptly seated by a handsome waiter and drinks orders taken, we felt very looked after. Myself and my partner both had the 7oz fillet steak and I'm not lieing when I say this was one of the best steaks I've ever tasted. Cooked perfectly! Totally worth the money. We will definitely be returning.

Great restaurant, great food , I had the T bone steak which was cooked to perfection. We went for lunch it was very busy so you might want to book.... It was special too because it's where I proposed to my girlfriend, which was a bit embarrassing especially when she started to cry, I'm not sure if it was through happiness or disappointment as I handed her a diamond ring... Anyway she said yes so we moved on to dessert!

The food is mediocre at best.
The mozzarella salad had no taste and the mozzarella cheese was rubbery and dry. The letuce itself had no condiment whatsoever.
The steak was medium-well rather than medium-rare. It was hard and chewy. The only thing I liked were the chips.
The Affogato was made with too much ice-cream, and the vanilla ice-cream itself was full of ice crystals. This show terrible preservation conditions as those form when the ice-cream is of bad quality and not properly stored.
The menu itself does not reflect the summer climate and it proposes lots of heavy dishes.
All in all a mediocre experience. Definitely overpriced for what you get. I won't be back.
