Excellent purpose built art gallery in Eastbourne. It’s definitely the highlight of the town and for some arguably the only one. The gallery is spread over three floors with separate rooms allowing for different themed exhibitions. There’s also a nice cafe. Entrance is free although donations are requested.

The Towner Art Gallery hosts a number of fantastic art exhibitions, the most recent exhibition which I visited was put together by a local politician who was head of the green party. She chose out of there 5000 paintings and sculptures the best ones which represent climate change. She captured it perfectly with the pictures she chose. She put together pictures that represented what we as a race are doing to our planet. The Towner Art Gallery also has a lovely cafe which serves a range of coffees, teas and assorted cold refreshments. The cafe also offers sweet treats like cake and millionaire shortbread. The Towner also has more than exceptional lavatories and a lovely gift shop, perfect for souvenirs. All in all I love the Towner Art Gallery and would definitely recommend if you are in the area.

The David Nash exhibition is really worth the visit, it's set across 2 floors and shows the progression of his work from early to most recent. I especially enjoyed the piece downstairs made from raw Cedarwood, the smell and size hits you twice - on the nose and on the eyes.

Extraordinary building with an ideal set up for exhibitions. The Binnie sisters were in residence with their work displayed up stairs. The covid procedures were painless so I enjoyed my visit. A sophisticated modern museum rightly rewarded as a museum of the year.

Great little gallery with a study space, gallery spaces, and cafe. Carefully designed to take in the view of its surroundings and add a punch of colour ( if the retain the amazing commissioned wall mural).. Great cafe with balcony too.

A lovely large space but there didn't seem to be much art to look at. Some if the Ravilious work was in drawers that had to be opened one by one by a member of staff when there was plenty of room to display it. The shop was also a little lacking.

Great modern art gallery in the heart of the theatre district of Eastbourne. Currently showing an excellent exhibition by David Nash.

I have the impression that the exhibiting artists get more enjoyment from their work than the visitors.

First time visit for me despite having lived locally for years. Really impressed by the Covid precautions taken by the gallery. Felt safer here than any other venue (be it pub or restaurant etc) that I've visited recently. My art knowledge is very limited but I very much enjoyed my visit. My girlfriend who is much more knowledgeable really enjoyed the experience. For me the Hassan Palestine/Israel border crossing installation (I hope I got that right) was the highlight and very moving. While we didn't pay to see the David Hockney collection, the free galleries are more than enough and I will be revisiting soon to get the whole experience.

Great art gallery, looks fabulous from the outside (although I have heard locals complaining about that design, but it comes down to personal taste, doesn't it). Entry is free of charge, super nice cafe on the top, fantastic fuse box to relax inbetween. The exhibitions are changing and once again, are subject to personal taste. I liked it a lot.

The Towner gallery is well worth a visit if you're in Eastbourne. A lovely modern space for art, and mostly free of charge. You will be asked to pay for special exhibitions, the sole purpose of my visit was to see the Alan Davies / David Hockney early works exhibition which on until 31 May 2020. It was a beautifully curated exhibition and if you are a fan of either or both of the artists or if you enjoy and appreciate abstract expressionism then you won't be disappointed. If you need sustenance there is a reasonably priced cafe. The gallery is on several floors with lots of stairs but there is a lift and easy wheelchair access to all the exhibition space and facilities. I can't comment on the permanent collection as I only had time to do the Davie/Hockney.

Perfect place to take your children or visit yourself. Lots of exhibitions to explore for hours and if you need a break, there's also nice cafe upstairs. Some of exhibitions are free but some need tickets.

Lovely art gallery that turned out to be a stone's throw from where we were staying. On the ground floor were some artists including (this week, at least) a sound artist called Heledd Evans who had a studio set up for kids to make noise with, which was popular with my 7yr old. Elsewhere is some nice art and a sensory room that had a lot of very little ones in when we visited. Also has a lift for *80* people which also impressed my son.

The Towner art gallery is great, free admission. good exhibitions and a decent cafe! The exhibitions are different every time and it's a great place to go every so often. The gift shop offers unique products, although a little pricy as usual with these sorts of places. Overall, a pretty good stop if you're near the seafront...

Lovely artwork, beautiful interiors but not to my taste. Although I definatly recommend to anyone to try it out and have a look around as it's free. It's a nice thing to do on a day out

Amazing art gallery in beautiful Eastbourne. Exquisite collection and top exhibitions. There's a playroom for kids, Caffè on top floor and a small gift shop. Easy to access and just a short walk from multi stories car park . About 10 min walk to train station and a 5 min or less walk to the seafront. Free entrance .had the chance to see some fascinating paintings from Patrick Caulfied which I absolutely adore. The awe bit was definitely Holden son and father's exhibition about bird's nests ,

The Royal Society of Sculptors hosted a pop-up sculpture workshop for adults and children, at the Towner today. Had fun making sculptural willow forms. A well organised event and the participants were clearly enjoying the opportunity to play with form and let inspiration flow. I hope the Towner have similar events in the future.

A contemporary art gallery with large studio space to devoted to all types of art including the more bizarre... definitely thought provoking. Unusually, this art gallery includes a library area which provided space to study, reflect and read many of the books about the artists. We really enjoyed our trip and learning about the local artist Eric Ravilious and the small exhibition of his work. Lovely cafe on the second floor too!

A lovely gallery containing a large collection of Eric Ravilious paintings. For Me, Ravilious is a recent discovery and I can't recommend him highly enough. What a talent and his early death could partly explain why he is not more widely known.

Even with Urban Ground ceasing the sale of my favoured Pastrami flatbread, I have to provide 5 stars for what is always a great escape from the crowds and weather. A safe haven with much to see and enjoy. Oh.. and some nice architectural details.

Took the kids here to educate them, the art definitely impressed! A delightful building, well laid out, no pressure from the staff who were happy to let us just wander round. Stumbled across a stage with a karaoke set up that the kids spent ages on, I was even tempted to sing myself! All in all,a wonderful way to spend a few hours!

Lovely modern open plan architecture. Lifts to all floors. Great little cafe using local supplier. Some very interesting permanent art work and some very interesting temporary exhibits. Lots of support for local events and amateur artists which I love. Fairly newly opened theatre generally showing fringe films. Nice gift shop with some interesting gifts. My only criticism but it is a significant one is that I don't think that the Towner has a broad enough appeal. It is a fabulous building, with some great exhibition space but in my view the gallery tries to hard to show the things that you wont see else where. Not everyone wants to keep seeing fringe, contemporary art, often of a local quality. Sometimes it would be good to attract art with a wider appeal. A good place for an hour or two and a coffee. Public parking either on street or some pay parking 200 -300 metres away.
