The Towner not only hosts significant exhibitions in a modern building whose design respects the art, but also its curators have the wisdom to support many local charities and art-related initiatives. Works of national significance are displayed alongside exhibits that trace the interpretation of Sussex landscape and life. Accessibility is made easy by the step-free entrance and remarkably large lifts. A good shop and pleasant refreshments round off the experience. For residents and visitors, this is an enriching place.

Great free gallery. Always a good exhibition to spend time wandering around. And if that gets to tiring stop for a break in the on site cafe.

Was an amazing expirience that I had with my family and we all enjoyed it. There was plenty to do, lots of weird and wonderful things to see and a little gift shop at the end. I would definitely go again.

This imposing, impressive and spacious modern building is every inch the magnificent art destination that Brighton needs but does not have. A good rotation of excellent and well curated shows and other activities such as films throughout the year. This venue always punches above its weight. The Towner is mostly free, with a good cafe that serves a decent cup of coffee and nice sandwiches, an oasis of calm and reflection far, far away from the often distasteful tableau vivant of Eastbourne Esplanade. It even has balcony seating! To paraphrase Roy Strong, it's an Ace Caff with a nice gallery attached. Only joking, if you know what I mean. You do, don't you? Just go!

The gallery itself is large, light and airy, it's free to enter, although there are donation boxes dotted around with a suggested donation of £5. Cafe on the second floor has a reasonable range of choices and is a fair price considering the location. They accept cards as well as cash. We had coffee and cake and it was really nice. Exhibitions vary from photos, painting sculptures, light and videos, they also have an annual schools exhibition. Some of the exhibitions have been excellent, others not so great, but as it is down to personal taste, others may enjoy those I haven't. There is a large giftshop on the way in and out, with prices ranging from small, pocket money type amounts to large prices for bigger items.

Love this place - great mixture of art that is like an old friend and new exhibitions to make you find different perspectives. And it's free!

I love that the Towner brings such a variety of art to Eastbourne. I don't always like it, but I am always glad I've been! The Towner collection itself is interesting and varied and the touring shows often spark great discussion in my family, along with brilliant photo opportunities for my older children. The curation is always excellent and the space flexible - a real asset to the local area. In this time of art and creative subjects being side-lined in schools, we desperately need places like the Towner to take up the slack and show us all what art can be and what creativity can produce.

I enjoyed my visit very much. The entrance had an interesting shop and was bright and airy. The displays are on three floors, accessible by an industrial sized lift or stairs. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The top floor has a good cafe, with a balcony outside with good views. The food and drink was enjoyable and not too pricey. The work of local artists was displayed on the top floor. The middle floor had an exhibition of Blomberg paintings from the twentieth century. The ground floor had art installations. The toilets were spotless. It's an independent gallery dependent on donations. Well worth a visit,????

Probably the best of the south coast galleries. The gallery's commitment to the work of Eric Ravilious is very much appreciated.

What is on display is well worth seeing. We loved the schools exhibition. The only problem with the Towner is that it does not make full use of the fantastic display areas. So much art in store that is never displayed. Few want to pay £6 to view art in the basement storerooms! Thank you to the fantastic staff at the great little Cafe.

Good modern art gallery. It felt small after recent visits to the large London galleries but on reflection it was actually quite large. Good well presented exhibitions and looked like lots of events for kids and families to do with discovering art.

A thought provoking and fun Grayson Perry etching and strangely beautifull and atmospheric Dineo Seshee Bopape installation were highlights of this most engaging modern art gallery display. A great place to wile away an hour or two.

This wasn't for me I did not understand the art. I can appreciate the work and skill that goes into it but some of the subject matter ......I shall say no more. The gallery itself I liked, big open spaces plenty of room good lighting just a tad to echoie. Staff are enthusiastic and helpful. There is also a very good restaurant. I would go back if there was something more interesting. All I can ssy to you is go and check it out you might be surprised.
