Great selection of trimmings, really friendly and helpful staff

Loved the fabric range and how the shop was doing only 15mins at a time on each floor. Do your online selection beforehand and then get staff to help you find items. You can then make choices based on feel and colour options quickly. Love how they will cut a sample for you. This makes online ordering easier.

For some reason the staff didn't seem to like the way we looked and told us we had 15mins shopping time before we had to leave. We saw multiple customers enter and heard no one else told the same. Won't be returning.

Awesome place. Hard to believe old fashioned shops like this can survive in cut throat London shopping environment. I went to select Gutermann Rayon thread for an embroidery to work with. They had exactly what I wanted.

An Aladdin's cave for all haberdashery. The countless fabrics are brilliantly organised. And it's packed with every possible colour, size and style of zip, ribbon, lace, elastic, trim, buckle etc etc etc....

A useful haberdashery that I recommend to my lingerie/swim clients if they have some urgent supplies they need for their samples. There are very few haberdasheries in London that supply such a wide range of components.

Placed an order over $130 more than a month ago, still have not received my item. According to usps hasn’t even gone out for shipping. Sent 2 emails still waiting for delivery. I hope my fabric is in good quality when it one day arrives. If ever.

Christ just found a large number of reviews about rude staff on here. I thought it was just me being a bit sensitive. I always felt there was a slight attitude issue from some staff downstairs & thought it was just me but I have been twice now post-lockdown & it now it just seems worse with staff following you around the store & in my case telling me to pull my mask over my nose after it slipped down, it was fine when I entered. I really didn’t dare say I had an exemption but then I was told that each customer only had 10mins to shop, the shop though was deserted but they had a huge amount of staff inc the I one following round the store. I didn’t bother looking through the felt hat bases & buckle samples & just left. Been buying more & more haberdashery stock online from cheaper providers recently & can’t really see how this shop is going to cover its costs let alone business rates with the reduced opening times & it’s full complement of staff. Other suppliers have recently closed for good in Soho inc Cloth House & they were pleasant to shop in.

I just received another 5 star order from MacCulloch. The quality is always brilliant, packed beautifully and the staff are so knowledgeable & helpful, the high quality fabrics are so beautiful and makes my job easier. I’ve been ordering for years and now wouldn’t shop anywhere else. I can’t wait to visit the store again when in London next. Thanks again team MacCulloch ????

Very cute shop, lovely and friendly staff. Recommended to anyone looking for trims, fabrics, yarn, hooks and needles! I think there's a workspace downstairs that you can use too?

I stumbled upon this shop by chance when I moved to London a few years ago and was like a kid in a candy store. I shopped here regularly, spent a small fortune each time and frequently recommended colleagues because I work with hundreds of professional artists. Last month I came in to get some maribau feathers for my twenties themed company Christmas party. The pastel green stock was out so I asked a staff member to check the inventory. Another staff member angrily interrupted, aggressively declared there was none and demanded the woman assisting me not check the inventory. So I asked the woman assisting me if she could sell me the small sample piece. It then became clear to her that I was not asking for a color that was not in their inventory but simply not on their sale floor. She checked the computer and went to the back to search extensively for it. She returned empty handed and apologized. I asked again about the sample and the angry woman interrupted again and angrily barked, "No!". I thanked the woman who assisted me for being kind, bit my tongue and left without giving the other employee a few obscenities because the shop was busy. Proper ettiquite would be to offer to order the item for me. Also, I overheard the angry woman telling a customer they were understaffed and hiring. Probably because she was a nightmare to work with! In the past, friendlier staff were helpful and knowledgeable but I don't think I will shop there anymore. Perhaps they can prevent inconvenient inquiries by removing samples of merchandise they no longer stock. Just a thought!

Well stocked with loads of excellent quality millinery, haberdashery and trim supplies. Lovely lace trim selection in a myriad of colours and hues. Super neatly presented stock throughout the store.

Highly highly recommended. I sent out the same letter to 10 companies for samples and MacCulloch and Wallis was by far the best to deal with. They sent me out the samples I asked for so I could see the colors for comparison and feel the material, which made my design decisions much easier. The team are always accessible through email and very helpful. Great experience.

I visited the shop a few weeks ago and was shocked by the service! I asked to see a certain type of fabric and without even looking at me a member of staff pointed to the untidy rails and said ‘over there.’ I then spent a lot of time looking for a fabric, and when I eventually found it I had to queue a long time and the staff were VERY rude when I asked questions about the fabric. The woman with short grey hair was very sarcastic and manipulative. It’s such a shame as it’s a beautiful shop with beautiful fabrics but the staff make your experience very stressful. I won’t be returning

Visited to purchase some fabric seen on the MacCulloch & Wallis website. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the store was beautifully laid out, and there was such a wide range of fabrics & haberdashery.

Bit wary after reading reviews but they could not have been nicer. It is a treasure trove with a great range of basic and interesting haberdashery. Staff were funny, helpful and knowledgeable. A real joy.

Great little shop selling ribbons, buttons and all manner of cotton. Unfortunately for me they didn't have the button I was looking for. But I won't hold that against them I had tried 6 other shops with no success.

Staff member downstairs with long brown hair was incredibly rude and has attitude issues. Looking at the history of bad reviews, staff is a consistent problem.

After spending a lot of money on fabrics and trimmings at this shop I am going to have to limit my purchases to emergency-only occasions. The staff is, on the whole, very rude, and there have been several occasions now when shipments have been delayed or stock levels have been inaccurately represented, causing delay and inconvenience on my side: the response to any protestation to these situations is uniformly brusque and dismissive. It's a shame that a shop with a potentially great offering is operated like this.

Lots of choice and plenty to look at. I regularly go here but avoid peak times as it can get hectic. I totally disagree with many of the 1* comments. I dont think the customer is always right. They provide a service you require but within reason - I have been in there many times and customers have been demanding, impatient or asked the impossible. Many times its because customers react to an answer they don't like. (Example, we don't have any of that fabric left, or no we don't do larger samples) Although waiting in line can be frustrating, the staff clearly try to do their best to manage customers and the stock whilst multi taking and answering a catalogue of questions - they have a vast knowledge if you see how much stock there is to learn - you ask the impossible if you expect someone to know all the products in there when the stock changes so much. They can only learn by being there more time and with the systems a company puts in place. There are still many fabric and haberdasheries around London - if you don't like a service go elsewhere and find one you are happy with.

I dropped into M&W for a handful of haberdashery items, the kinds of things you used to be able to buy in any fabric or department store but which in recent years have become specialist goods. Whilst the department stores are responding to the resurgence of interest in home sewing and crafts by offering a smaller and smaller selection of increasingly pre-packaged and mediocre quality tools and supplies, MacCulloch and Wallis retain the widest range of bespoke, high-quality sewing supplies. I was able to find not just what I went for but precisely the type, size and quantity of goods I wanted. The new location is far better appointed and easier to navigate than the old shop, and the staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Perfect shopping experience.

I love the variety that you can get in the shop, but some of the staff are so rude that it often discourages me from going if it is likely that i have to ask for assistance. There has been too many instances where i send my friends or colleagues to the store and they come away with nothing because of the treatment that they have received. Then i either have to recommend another store nearby or go in myself on their behalf. Really do not deserve customers with such poor service.

An Aladdin's cave of haberdashery exists downstairs. Upstairs has fabric, but I don't even look – just breeze past to the much-harder-to-find-in-London items of 'everything sewing related you could ever want!'. I often come steaming in, just before closing, and I've always found the staff polite and helpful. No, it's not cheap – but for the chance to hand select everything I want, in one place, immediately – I don't mind!

I only came in to pick up some sewing thread quickly. Went straight to the till and staff looked at me and just ignored me, carrying on with a relaxed chat about some fabric with another customer who was considering of buying it. Not a good first impression ladies.

After reading some of the reviews on here I was a bit nervous going into the shop as I can be dithery at the best of times. The young lady that helped me was wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and she was so helpful and polite. She found exactly what I wanted, which wasn't what I had gone in for at all! Thank you!

This seems like a great haberdashery shop with lots of variety. Unfortunately the shop was too busy, and despite waiting in line for around 15 minutes (it was unclear where to queue to ask for help), I departed. I visited The Berwick St. Cloth Shop instead where I was greeted and served by the most courteous sales assistant.

I'm a fashion student and I love the vast array and multitude of the fabrics and haberdashery on offer here. However, I loath that moment when I walk through the door. I honestly detest it when I need to come here. Which is often. The staff are incredibly rude and always, ALWAYS so condescending. And it's like they enjoy being so rude and unwelcoming because they KNOW that all the fashion students will just come back again and again as the stock is of high quality and quantity. May I point out that this is mainly the staff on the fabric counter. I appreciate that they are knowledgable about their craft but to belittle customers seems a step too far. They are very tactless and awkward, despite appearing like intelligent individuals, and have proven to be the kind of individuals that enjoy (with scorn) telling me I'm IN FACT very wrong about something or about the item I'm looking for and shouldn't have even asked for it. (I am a student I'm okay with not being right all the time- learning curve) I just can't get my head around it. The worst part is, their reputation is well known. All my peers agree and have experienced this rudeness on several occasions and it continues to this day. I study fashion, which is a stressful subject and industry to work in so when I come into a fabric shop like this, I expect great customer service and to leave slightly less stressed than when I arrived.. Which is NEVER the case. I remember leaving the store almost crying after one episode, last year, in my first year after one of your members of staff had made me feel so terrible. I was only 19? It makes me so angry that your product doesn't at ALL match your customer service, which is dire. Why do they always talk down to me? Why do they always behave in such an arrogant, snobbish manner? I adore all the lovely fabrics and the shop looks great, since you moved but all that truly is tainted by the fact that your staff are really quite obviously untrained and unfit, in my opinion, to be working in a social environment on the shop floor. I never write google reviews either. I changed my password just so that I could write this one as I really can't put up with this anymore and strongly advise that something should be done. I for one don't want to have to deal with such ridiculous behaviour in my graduate year.
