Excellent cafe for great tasting traditional grub, which is also excellent value. Views of the beach/ sea/ pier/ etc. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Fabulous staff!

Absolutely vile fish and chips. The chips were cold and hard, not fluffy or nice at all and the batter on the fish was super greasy and thick, not to mention the fish was rancid. As soon as I bit into it I felt sick as the strong fish flavour and smell hit the back of my throat. For £9.90 a piece I feel severely ripped off, especially considering my local fish and chips which is no where near the sea, is considerably better. If visiting Brighton, avoid this place AT ALL COSTS

Nothing wrong with this place. Food was a respectable 8 and the staff were very friendly. Couldn't see any hygiene issues on my several visits. It gets busy but I guess that's a good sign.

Can't beat a cuppa on a early sunny summer morning in the fresh air. Great destination for a bike ride. The Madeira cafe welcomes motorcyclists..

The actual food is you get what you paid for. Cheap stuff, as expected. The issue, though is the utter lack of hygiene. The guy who served us was sitting outside having a smoke before we went to the counter, he then came in without washing his hands, took our order, coughed into his hands and over the food, carried on (again without washing his hands) took our money, carried on again (without washing his hands). If this place even HAS a hand-washing sink, I'm betting it's bone dry. Disgusting.

Been coming here for years, as a local, this used to be always the best fish & chips in Brighton, great service, nice guy and staff. NOT NOW! Today a bloke who looked like a stand-in manager sat smoking where people were ordering and eating, and I had the most DISGUSTING PIECE OF FISH EVER! The batter was pale, thick and insipid and completely uncooked inside, sticking like glue to the fish; the oil stank of not being changed for weeks, the chips were soft and old from being warmed up. Totally disgusting and all thrown in the bin. I will not go back.

Good coffee, perfect bacon and egg roll, friendly staff. Great open air cafe, not sure why people rated it like they were visiting a restaurant?!

We were looking forward to gish and chips by the beach. The fish was just ok but the chips were like bullets. Binned it and went somewhere else. Rubbish.
