I can't believe or understand people giving this place any good reviews. 40 minute wait and two customers served in front of me. They twice tried to send out the two cod and chips to the wrong people. My advice for the owners is to get some training in a traditional fish and chip shop. Stick to just fish and chips and drop the kebabs and pizza. Use clean oil daily, don't buy frozen and serve it as fresh!!!
Being from Whitby and having worked in a fish and chip shop I know what to expect in a seaside town. The people running this have no idea and little understanding of how to serve on a busy April sunny day at lunch time. Orders were not going out to customers waiting the longest but people were getting served that came in after we did.
It was all frozen - yes at the sea front. The temperature of the fat must have been constantly dropped every time they added the frozen chips!! What kind of place would not make their own chips? Subsequently the fish batter was soggy, skin on, bones and wet fish. I have had better from an inner city takeaway. I think anywhere that serves pizza and kebabs should not be promoting them selves as a fish and chip shop. Terrible. Avoid!!!!

Reviews obviously made a difference because we went there on 15th April 2021 and The Friendly Romanian guy serving actually told my daughter he would charge the lower price for eating take away. we watched the fresh fish being delivered, he was friendly too the delivery driver, my dog was given a bowl of water and I had a lovely time there actually, I am big on service . I will be going back.

Should have listened to the reviews. Ordered a large chips £3.20 and got like, 10 chips. If you're intending on ordering a large chips to share, get about 4 portions. The gravy was so bad we poured it down the sink and made our own. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We were pleasantly surprised, given the poor rating others had left. The cod was very tasty, with crisp batter that wasn't too oily. The chips were light and soft, and I seldom enjoy mushy peas but these were delicious. I had a side of garlic mushrooms which were piping hot and again crispy without being too oily. All in all, an enjoyable meal and I would certainly go there again if I was ever in Brighton again

The staff is only friendly until you ask them to understand why you were charged more than the prices on their menu. The lady became rude and personal straight away. They have a menu under their counter which have higher prices than prices shown on the wall for customers to see. None of the customers suspect that they have two different menus, especially when it stays hidden with the staff behind their counter. I have seen another person questioning their prices but getting the same rude response. Apparently you are meant to know that if you sit down you will be charged according to the menu they don't show you which is £7 more (£12 instead of a fiver) for the dry inside, greasy outside and flavourless fish which they call "prime" in their other "secret" menu. When I asked why I wasn't shown that menu she said it must have been taken by other customers while she retrieved it in front of me from their counter, so it was never there for any customer to see. I asked for the receipt as the one they gave me didn't have prices on and stated the wrong place, pizza place.
Priced a lot I expected at least a decent portion or quality. I received four rings of heavily battered calamari tasting like rubber with no flavour. Then a guy brought me extra chips I didn't order and begged me to take them, so after a few minutes of his forced offer I let him put it on my table. Something really dodgy is going on there. I wouldn't recommend eating there.

Not as bad as some of the reviews make out but you need to aware of a couple of key things:
1) It’s overpriced. £2.80 (Jul 2020) for a standard chips (£1 over average Brighton price). But it’s the seafront and no competition nearby so partly to be expected.
2) Chips are from frozen - not fresh cut potatoes. But they were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Different - but I liked them. Hard to justify the price though. I imagine other food is similarly frozen.
The place is clean and the staff were friendly. My curry sauce was pricey at £1.80 but the portion was generous (above average I would say) and tasted nice - bog standard with bits. The little takeaway card box is handy and hands down beats the polystyrene boxes that are far too common in Brighton chippies (and other take aways).
So docked a star for price and one for not making it clear that food is cooked from frozen. I get why some folks are really annoyed. One star back for using boxes not polystyrene.

Staff member was rude! Only 1 staff member - tables were left uncleared/cleaned.
Prices were very different when eating in - very unrealistic for what we got served and the service provided.
Chips were very overcooked - crispy, dry and no potato inside.
Chicken wings had no taste whatsoever and were more batter than chicken - batter was hard and not very nice.
I would not recommend this place.
Plenty of other fish and chip places on the sea front.

Quite honestly, terrible. The chips are the standard frozen chips you would find at any supermarket. The portion to price ratio is far too off, the fish was no where near worth the price you pay for it. The radio was on full blast with constant static. The man working had to ask to borrow a lighter to light under the fryer. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

If I could give minus stars I would. Over priced. Very unprofessional. At 21.33 we were told that they would close at 22.00. At 21.41 they told to leave because they had to close. Apparently the manager or owner starting shouting and throwing tables and chairs. Never coming here. Unless you like bad service and unprofessionalism STAY AWAY

This place has so much character, it is very clean and looked after, the staff are friendly and can be approached if there are any questions, we never had any problems, the food is well priced, the service is very fast and it has a great atmosphere too. Will definitely be visiting this place again when we visit Brighton!!!

I can only assume they take freezed tesco cod and put it in the microwave directly, but I wouldn't be fair to them, as I'm sure this would taste much better than what I've managed to eat.
Chips are ok-ish, not fresh ofc. Unfortunately they're not enough to wash away the taste of the fish.
Terrible, I'd close this place with my own bare hands if I could. Any volunteers?

I would give a zero if possible. When I ordered the food I asked if the fish was fried I n the same oil as the chicken and was told no. Later when my daughter returns to the hotel she had an allergic reaction as she is mildly allergic to fish and got rashes all over her body and started vomiting we went back to complain and was treated in a very rude disrespectful way. I was not helped but told it was the weather the food was overpriced AND DISGUSTING and my daughter is now vomiting all over the hotel.my daughter had a rash around her mouth and was told she doesn’t look sick. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST PLACE TO GET FOOD THE STAFF HAS NO RESPECT AND TREATS THE CUSTOMERS WELL UNTIL THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE VERY RUDE WAITRESS WAS OLD AND BLONDE NEVER GO HERE. THE FOOD

Absolutely horrible, way too overpriced for the stuff they give you, the pizza £12 and I kid you not, it felt like cardboard, and water has more flavour than most of the stuff on their menu, I had haddock with chips and it tastes like oily cardboard surrounding a stale fish, the calamari was very bad, the batter around it was very doughy and like I said before, water has more taste. The lady is very friendly but don't be fooled by that, she overcharges you, and make sure you ask to eat out as eating in nearly doubled the prices of the menu items, but they don't tell you that, overall it feels like she is the Mr Krabs of fish and chips shop, a cheapskate that overcharges. Would not recommend coming here at all, infact your best bet is probably burger king just down the road. Edit: rather go to the regency just down the road, you can get waaaayyy better fish and chips for basically the same price, it's insane how much west pier fish and chips overcharges, I came to the regency the night after I went to that dump and i felt stupid for not going here in the first place.

NOT THE BEST!
I think it’s safe to say best avoided if at all possible. Not the best chips (I’ve tasted better in Brighton over the years) and the fish (COD) fell apart all to easily but I did like the batter. Wasn’t too much of it nor too little. That’s about the only thing that was good. Prices are reasonable in the scheme of things. You would think that being a coastal resort, the fish would be fresh, but sadly not. There are better places around but more often than not you take a risk, unless you’ve done your research beforehand.
Some people will like this place but for me the chips were bland.
If you choose to eat in you have to pay at the counter before sitting down. They do not show you the eat in menu which obviously has different prices to the visible take away menu on the wall. Quite frankly, a con. Never again on any count.

Today we got two portions of chips from this place and were charged £6.40.
Which is more expensive than the West End of London.
Asked for salt and vinegar on one portion and there was none didn't find out until we got back to the hotel we were staying in, and they tasted disgusting.
Don't waste your money in this place. If I could give zero star rating that would be to high.

As per the other reviews I wished I had checked this place out first. The staff were friendly but the food was awful, chips tasted cheesy, sausage tasted like it had been re cooked a dozen times and the pickled onion was soft and mushy. It says traditional fish and chips but you get frozen steak cut chips that are fried. What a shame. I can only describe this place as rank....????

Good fish and chip shop, fish has tasted fresh on both occasions that I visited, and the main point here is they fry their items separately, so if you are looking for a "halal" option, then this gives peace of mind as the sausages are fried separately from the fish. Definitely ask yourself first before deciding to eat to satisfy yourselves too.

Sadly I wish I had read the reviews before coming in. If it was possible to give 0 stars I would. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! The reviews are all correct and true. Frozen chips and frozen Haddock fillet with no taste. They add £4.50 extra to sit in. Absolutely disgusting vile food. This place should be closed down. Portions are also shockingly small.
