Inspiring, thought provoking statements to discuss each week keep me coming back to the warm welcoming atmosphere and wonderful company. Opens your heart and mind and shows you how to live a happier, quieter and less selfish life. Now, that can't be bad can it?

Highly recommended for seekers of Truth and Beauty. This school is brilliant if you are interested in finding out how to live life in a much more aware state. It has lead me from the depths of suffering and confusion, to finding love, peace, clarity and happiness.

Why are we here? This is the question that brought me to the school. I was amazed at the depth of wisdom it gave me access to and the helpful way it opened my mind to new ideas. It continues to be an inspiration.

Just come back from a most beautiful and restful residential 6 day meeting at Waterperry Oxfordshire. Brilliant company and sublime atmosphere just excellent. Plenty of time to reflect on what matters and to recharge the batteries so to speak. Cannot recommend this to highly. It is just so necessary in this time to make time to be quiet and to practice this on a regular basis.

I have attended courses at the School for many years. They give a whole new dimension to life-long learning by relating study to practical experience. An enriching friend and companion for life.

I feel that SES provides a most wonderful link to what is really true in life. Never mind the hype that surrounds all human existence, the nonsense with which we normally fill our minds, this organisation helps to establish a really firm foundation in my thought. This has given the opportunity to explore and to really experience life in its fullness. I have come to know what I really love, in myself, in society and in all of human existence.

Supportive organisation with wonderful like minded people- to help build stillness and mindfulness. I’ve been attending for nearly 30 years and still find it so very useful.

I have found the courses very useful in turning my life around from being rather purposeless, to having some understanding about the best way to approach every action. The practical nature of the classes stimulates enquiry and through this expands the way I look at the world and myself, which allows more happiness and freedom.

I attended the practical philosophy course here in 2013. I found the course most interesting and above very accessible for anyone. The lecturers are knowledgeable and try there best to keep everyone involved. The building is original and the lecture rooms are big and traditional Dacor. Nice dining room down stairs which is run by volunteers. I recommend the philosophy course for anyone.

I’ve just come home from a week at Waterperry, our annual opportunity to tune up our meditation and reflection, study the words of the wise and enjoy the company of like-minded friends. Thanks to all who made this possible.

What first attracted me to the School was that it had answers! I was young, confused, searchIng and full of questions. The School provided answers that began to make sense of the bewildering, chaotic succession of random events called my life. I liked the practical approach to philosophy, philosophy is for living it is not armchair philosophy. I found this approach keeps me honest with myself and keeps the studies interesting and fresh. The depth and profundity of the knowledge available in the School is remarkable, it has given a whole new meaning to to the expression 'get real '. Another thing that impresses me about the School is the amount of time given caring for the students (and this is time given voluntarily after all!), it is very beautiful to see. Perhaps the most valuable thing has been the discovery of stillness - deep inner stillness that steadies the ship and keeps you on course. Interestingly stillness is not, as I had thought, passive, but is alive, full of potential and creative. The best ideas and most creative impulses come when I am connected to stillness. Being a professional artist this knowledge of stillness being the source of creativity has been immensely valuable in my work. You meet some interesting people in the School and studying with others and sharing experiences is a continuing delight and most beneficial. In the School I have found an organisation that is genuinely dedicated to truth. It gives structure and a systematic approach which allows for real spiritual growth without having to become a monk in an ashram, for which I am very grateful. Forty odd years on the enquiry continues and deepens. I still have questions, fewer but more profound, and I am happy.

I tried he practical philosophy course. I've studied ethics before but to no great depth and found bar a few moments, I knew more than the lecturers. Most lecturers are volunteers, and the quality is poor. They seem to have confused eccentricity with the skill of conveying a message. You can openly see that some people really enjoy the classes and the debates, but the high drop off rate seemed proof to me if proof be needed that many weren't getting anything useful out of the classes. I'd recommend angling to try one lecture for free on the promise that if you liked it then you'd sign up for a course. I got my girlfriend a free lecture by taking that approach and she decided against a full semester.

Attended a few years ago. All I can say is that they lure you in with part 1 and 2 before stifling debate in later courses. The place screams cult if you ask me.

I attended the SES for over five years and in contrast to many of the other reviewers found their guidance and advice eminently practical and helpful both in the short term but more importantly in the twenty years since. It's true that they use many volunteers and that many of the Students particularly in the early years like a good debate but my opinion is that you would have to look a long way to find a more honest group of individuals and teachers.
