No nonsense hire, good range of vehicles. Pre booked a van , but needed an extra one on the day. Which they were happy to accommodate.

Great service! Just moved house and workshop and used one of 1st reading van hire's Luton trucks for the task. Friendly staff, clean and cared for vehicles and a 24hr hire slot made the move that much easier. Thankyou

Owner very greedy and very much money orientated. Put extra petrol money as the needle wouldn't move up, owner kept that petrol and charged for a small damage in the van without discounting the petrol money. Do not recommend, avoid this.

I rented a van back in April and was well treated by Mr Andy, taking me through the whole process. He showed me that one of the sides of the van was already damaged, saying to me "don't worry about that cause that's where people tend to do more damage to the van anyway". While leaving, down by the petrol station, I scrathed the van exactly on THAT same side that was already damaged at the time. I call him down straight away to inform him and he tells me that I'll probably just have to repair for the plastic repair (convenient?). When I left the van back, I filled the tank with an extra £15 in diesel. I started by filling it with £5+£5 +£5+£5, total of £20 and the indicator would not move up. I then decided to put another £10 and the indicator just jumped right up, clearly showing me that £15 would have been the right amount to fill it with, as it was way over the diesel level with which I received the van with. Either way I didn't worry much about it, because he had been polite and I though that, although the van was already damaged on the side where I scratched it, I felt like £15 extra diesel would mean something towards his van. Now just today, 19th of August, I receive a phone call from this company, "The First Reading Van Hire" telling me that I have a bill of £50 to pay for the damage caused to the plastic on the side of the van. They say they were ordering the parts meanwhile, not telling me anything during 4.months... I have to trust this company when they tell me that I broke the plastic on that side of the van that was already damaged and also I have to believe that no one else damaged the van in that same area after me, during these 4 months! I have no clue when this company reopened, after the lockdown but as a customer, I don't think this is fair in any way. I could rise many questions here, but I have a lot to do in my life other than ask for proof, images or documents as I believe that Karma exists, especially when all you care about towards others, is money. But I had to take the time to leave this review, obviously. I was surprised to receive a phone call after 4 months and even more after I asked him to have in consideration the extra £15 I left on the van in diesel, to which he replied to me "DO YOU WANT ME TO SUCK OUT THE FUEL OF THE VAN AND GO SELL IT ON THE STREET?" He told me that if I wanted I could go there and take the petrol out of the van myself, because those £15 are "no good for his business, they don't represent phisical money into his business." Now, this review is simply to show anyone in the future in need to hire a van from this company, just to see how you get treated, how they handle things if something goes wrong. I tried to reason with him to find a middle way, maybe pay £35, to deduct the £15 I left the van with in diesel, but his only focus was "on the business side and the" £50 damage repair", that was all he cared about. Obviously, if I was willing to reccomend this company until now, I now DON'T RECCOMEND you spending your money with a company that has this approach to a situation like this. I have allowed the company to take payment today, from the same card I paid in April, my aort is done, I hope his company is happy and richer with these £50 and sleep well at night.

Excellent service, has saved me a lot of stress and money on a few occasions now. Couple of times was able to organise the exact van I needed for the very next day, with pickup at a time I wanted. Cheery and efficient service at a good price, highly recommended.

Had a van from them one week and a car the next. Both times they were the best price around, vehicles where in great condition and the service is really good and friendly. Can't fault the experience and will be back next time I need a rental for sure.
