Its been a long time in the making but the new renovated library is definitely worth the wait. The circular reading room is a great space and always deathly quiet if you want to get some work done. The archive section and cafe area are …

Although the facilities are very nice it is really NOT good if you want a quiet place to study or read. The music is situated right next to the reading room and causes a great disturbance. Surely in a building this size a better location can be found for the drums, guitars, pianos etc

A beautifully renovated temple to learning. With musical instruments, spaces for silence, and more than enough places to learn. Come to the library as a tourist to see the historical exhibitions and the events or come as a student and find the quietest more focused place in Manchester

Brilliant quiet place to study. We went during the evening and it was very tranquil. One thing I will say was that there was a creepy back to it. Through the glass at the back of the entrance floor were bookshelves filled with old books on. …

I was back in my home city this weekend after a long absence. Visited the Library for the first time since its reopening. Very impressed. This was a very important place for me personally and I felt truly proud of our Manchester heritage. The girl on the staircase must have read a heck of a lot of books since first I saw her!

Shame where it's located too far from city centre and the tourist information closed and moved to the wrong location

This is place is really special. Fantastic exhibitions and the reading room upstairs is a sight to behold. There's a café too, and it's next to a tram stop if you're travelling from out of town. It's a must-see if you're in Manchester.

A very traditional library. During a visit to Manchester I was able to sit in peace with lots of space to work on my uni bits and pieces.

Remarkable place. So diverse. Stunning. One downside is, at it feels more informal now with cafe and tables with chairs and people are just loud :( lady on skype with no earphones... really? And staff doesnt react.

Its a nice place, it has become very modern after it has been refurbished. Touchscreens, projectors, etc. Everything is clean and equipment is new. I found the books I couldn't find in UoM main library. The downside is homeless people can go there too

Re-opened in 2014 after extensive refurbishment and redevelopment. The main reading room is still as stunning as ever. The changes on the ground floor have made the library much more accessible and engaging.

Central library has recently been refurbished and re-opened in March 2014 after four years. Apart from it being worth a visit for its architecture, it of course also hosts a large number of collections, a media lounge etc. and occasionally events, like a book launch that I attended, take place inside the library too.

I love the refit. Going with my sister when she did her family history used to be a dull time. But the airy spaces are a marvel now.

One of the largest libraries built over a century ago caters for everyone's needs. Study, Visit the Archives or simply relax. Modernised recently to be more user friendly.

Wonderful place with nice architecture. Good in the morning but worst place in the afternoon. It should be a library, not a shelter. Also they allow people to eat inside the hall. Every afternoon there are some kids and teenagers who don't …

Amazing facilities, free media suite with iMac computers, multiple study areas including the original dome study hall. Cafe area is casual and stocked with great snacks. Free internet and charge points, massive archive of books and records. Perfect modern library, the benchmark.

I've always loved Central Library. Its refurbishment is a triumph. I visit often with my 4 year old son and it is an absolute pleasure to visit. Friendly, helpful staff, beautiful architecture and the books of course!

Every move you make in the reading room causes even the tiniest sounds to echo across the dome shaped interior, which encourages everyone to be quiet! No phones ringing, no chatting, perfect for getting your head down.

Given the vast sums spent on refurbishing Manchester Central Library, and given that we're now in the 21st century, I'm surprised that no money was spent on double glazing the windows. Apart from the obvious environmental benefits, and reduction in heating costs, this would have made the library a quieter place to work in.
