Arrived to pick up our car today only to find that the branch is closed. No one notified us of the closure despite having made the booking over 4 months in advance. We now have no car, but instead have a lengthy battle for a refund ahead of us, quite possibly with no compensation. Had no choice but to hire a car at a completely different location, the next day, at a much higher rate. Thanks a lot for the inconvenience, Hertz. We won't be back.

Don't ever rent a car from Herz. It s the worst company with extra hidden charges. At the end is the most expensive rental. Upon returning our rental we were asked to pay for “scratches on the tire”. The car was not damaged and in the exact same condition as we rented in. This was obviously a scam charge to get as much money from us as possible- we would never of though to throughly inspect black tires before leaving the garage nor should we have to.. After searching the web it appears that multiple people have experienced similar situations. I’d reccomend not renting from them even if they seem like the cheapest option. Appalling. Minibus booked 2 weeks advance. On pick up given a bunch of excuses, turns out there are none in the whole of London. They gave us 2 cars for same cost but has totally spoilt our day out. Left 1.5 hours later than scheduled because of it all plus 2 drivers cannot swap. If we'd known we could have driven our own cars. Also assistants v unhelpful to other customers who also had problem. WARNING DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!! All the years I've been renting with hertz Worst Location for accused damage. Accused of a tiny scratch on the edge of a hubcap 90gbp charge!!! If you have to rent from this location photograph the cars and you need to get on your hands and knees to check the car. Your need a torch as the Carpark is an NCP poorly lit. Yes they will tell you oh it's nothing but the next person who checks the car in may report every thing. The Italian guy on the counter washed his hands of it but telling me to email the back office for damage claims but they just quote the T&Cs. also if you have the full cover from hertz with zero excess you will be still charged 90gb for this event, it's all in the t&c's.

After returning the car I have noticed a pending charge of £1000+ on my card. After first contacting the rental office they said it's because we did 12000 miles according to their record. We only rented the car for 2 days, (and did 300m maybe) so... lol. Obviously someone messed up the odometer reading on their side. The person on the phone said they'd pass it on to their manager and they would be in contact with me. Of course no one was in contact with me so after a couple of days I called again and apparently spoke to a supervisor, who assured me the customer service would be in touch via email. Of course no one was in touch, so I filed a case with the customer service, and of course no one responded for a week. In the meantime the pending charge went away, so they must have fixed it on their side, but why bother contacting me about it. In the meantime I got an actual charge of £50+, so I call them again about it and apparently they charged for another full day because we returned the car shortly after 7pm on Sunday, while the rental was till 6:10pm (+30 mins leeway). Of course no bother sending an email to me about it, I had to call them to understand the reason for the charge. I rented from Europcar around the same area before and they didn't mind a slight delay in returning (try get to Victoria on time on a Sunday afternoon...). So no more renting from Hertz for me, not worth the stress and the high risk of being charged hefty penalties for late return etc.

I arrived with my brother who had just flown in from the US. We had planned to get rental car after taking the train in from the airport and drive out to a hotel in the country to start a nine day tour around the English countryside. As this was for my 21st birthday we were pulling out all the stops and getting a nice ride. Well, it turns out that because the next day was my birthday they could not rent us the car. So, even though I would be 21 for 8/9th of my rental they could not get us a car. My younger brother had prepaid from the States and they said that they could not give us a refund! What?!? I had to call the London corporate office and after about an hour and having to provide the name of this office's manager and the employee I was dealing with were they forced - yes, forced - to pay us back for a car they could not provide. We ended up having to completely change our trip plans, cancel all of our hotel reservations and used the refund to buy train tickets to only one of our destinations. It left such a sour taste that we decided to go to France, where I had been living and driving rental cars for almost a year. Yes - this Hertz office nearly ruined our England vacation. Had I not had the force of will to call the main office, they were going to kick us to the curb and pocket the money. Oh, and if you are wondering, this was in 1990 and I still will not use Hertz for this reason and it all started at this branch office in London. It sounds like a few others have had nearly as bad service in the intervening 25 years.

Recently I returned a car at this Hertz location. The attendant helping me then was Carlo (as judged by the name printed on my final invoice). I told Carlo that I touched a kerb so I slightly damaged the front-left wheel and tyre. After inspecting the car together and Carlo doing some paper work and computer work, he said normally I would have to pay for the repair, but that in this case I wouldn't have to pay anything. Reassuring me on this, he gave me the final invoice where he showed how it said "AMOUNT DUE NIL". I appreciated this gesture, and it actually reassured me that Hertz was the car rental place to go, especially after having a bad experience with a different company just a week before that. However, it was with surprise when I saw that the charges for the repair were taken from my debit card a few days later (165 pounds). I contacted Hertz UK but rather than just believing me (their customer), they said that I had to contact the Victoria coach station location (this one), and tell them to tell the central office that this was true. I called several times but they never picked up the phone. I sent them a couple of emails as well, but there was no response. Then I asked Hertz UK to please contact the location themselves, but they refused. At the end, I had to pay for the wheel repair. I would have been happy to pay for it should Carlo not have said anything, but after him sounding so kind and honourable, I just wanted some correspondence with his words, but instead I had to pay, be annoyed contacting different Hertz contacts, and be taken for a liar. I don't understand this poor customer care. Do they prefer 165 pounds over a happy customer? I recommend be so careful with this rental company because if there are problems, they won't honour you.

Just a word of advice for anyone thinking of renting with toll in the UK. If you inadvertently drive through a toll or get any type of ticket (parking, speeding etc) .. Hertz will charge you 42 pounds in admin fee (per incident). Just to forward the email from council.. They won't refund it. Even if your ticket is 5 pounds ! It is a money making exercise and shows you what kind of crooks they are.

Beware - very poor customer service ! Will take you over a whole business day to get through to a customer representative through the direct phone line if you have any queries (for me it was regarding a personal item left behind as Hertz have no lost and found service) and your email will never receive a response. Make sure you triple check the car for personal belongings before you return the car as your items will be gone and if you do leave something behind, based on my experience I can only say you will have an incredibly unpleasant and stressful time trying to chase down a response to your request for Hertz to check the vehicle.

DONT RENT FROM HERTZd and this location especially. They are clearly running a scam out of desperation- I rented a car for 24hrs and returned it and the following day was sent an email saying that there were “scratches on wheel’ and told I would be charged a £100. When I called to disagree since nothing happened during my rental the attendance promised me that I would not be charged and that I would get a call from customer service to discuss. I was automatically charged regardless and when I called to complain I got the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE you can ever imagine. The attendant lied and claimed not saying what he said to me. Just down right dismissive and rude. As you can see from the reviews other customers have had the same issue. DONT RENT FROM HERTZ

Please do not use this branch is a rip off! I rented a car for the weekend to drive home Friday at 7:30pm and to come back late Sunday evening. I dropped the car back at Sunday at 11:45pm Was charged a late fee which I accepted but, wasn’t told it needed to be back at the exact same time and another £66 on top for another 24 day because it was late by over 29mins. There is Avis near by and EuropeCar please use them as you won’t have this problem.

I hired a Van for the day (booked online) but when I arrived I was told they don't do vans there anymore and sent me to the Russel square branch were they had a much smaller van than I booked. I don't have much choice so went for it. When I came to bring it back the branch was closed and I had no idea what to do with it. I tried ringing them but their customer services are mid week only and non of the branches were open. It still makes you go through the whole 'press 1 to...' process before telling you, and I found out later that it is a premium rate line, so I was charged for being on hold. They also charged my £10 out of my deposit without telling me what it was for.

The guy who served me was very professional and efficient and actually gave me a bigger van than the one I had ordered which was very handy as I was moving house, but he was the only person there, the result of which was that a handful of people had to wait the best part of 45 minutes simply to confirm their name and get their hands on the car. It is woefully understaffed for a central London service.

Don’t ever book a car for pick-up here. As others have said, be prepared to wait 2hrs and even then they won’t have the car you booked available. Don’t think being #1 Gold will get you any preferred treatment - the counter is for cosmetic purposes, you’ll join the regular queue and they certainly won’t have your keys ready for you to pick up and go. A truly appalling experience - just go to Heathrow and pick up there.

Normal Hertz rental in every way except for one huge matter for me coming from overseas. We were in no way warned by Hertz of the potential for large congestion toll charges in relation to the hire from a busy location in central London and how we might avoid the charges. At £60 per charge plus £40 Hertz administration fee I would say DONT HIRE from Hertz in London if they cannot be bothered informing/advising their customers in this regard. Hertz customer service on the phone afterwards were also surprisingly unsympathetic as well, seeming to completely miss the difference between a Toll charge and a motoring offence. Ref:H32441191A7

Convenient location, but the last couple of times we've used them we've been a bit annoyed by their customer service. Can get very crowded on a Saturday morning, and we've waited over an hour in the queue before now. Also have had some disagreements over fuel charges - recently they seem to have given us a partly full tank, and asked us to bring it back at the same level - it's almost impossible to plan your journeys so that you end up with the same amount of fuel at the end, so inevitably they end up getting back more than what you hired it with. Whilst they'll charge you handsomely if it's below the level, they don't refund you if it's above. I find this pretty irksome, and so recently have been inclined to go elsewhere.

Great location just outside the congestion charge zone, perfectly set up for weekend rentals - open until 8pm on Friday, with 24/7 hour returns. We were given a great little runaround (Nissan Note) with built-in sat nav (no charge) and bluetooth audio. As with any rental place, check the paperwork and vehicle closely - the hire documentation showed that the car had a full tank, but in reality it only had 1/4. Getting the paperwork updated was no hassle at all - and when we returned with 3/8 of a tank, we were given a small credit to recompense. Pro tip: look out for promo codes - we bagged a great £15/day rate.

Never use Hertz, do yourself a favour and never use them. I hired a car in France and when it got a flat tyre, it took 3 days to recover the vehicle and get a new tyre. Then, they made me take a 4 hour round trip to get the car which they should have replaced. When I got back to the UK and stated I didnt have the car, they offered me 10% off the rental, that was it. Finally, they deemed it fair that they would refund me only 3 days rental and nothing more. To top it off though i've been receiving mails from claimant companies stating that I still owe them money and they will take legal proceedings against me. This is the worst rental company i've ever dealt with, from the people at the counter, the customer service and service center. Seriously, you may as well walk or hire a bicycle than use this company.

DO NOT USE HERTZ. Period. This was the worst car rental experience I've ever had and I will never use Hertz ever again. I arrived as booked at 9.30am on Sat with a valid UK driving license but they refused to give me the car because I didn't have the paper counter part to my license. Who does??? I've used the plastic one across Europe and the UK with other rental companies and never had any problem. When I called competitors to book another car they said that all Hertz had to do is phone the DLA to check license details but Hertz Victoria refused to do this as it was 'against office policy' to do so on a weekend. So I ended up having to book a last minute booking with a competitor at 3 times the price and had my day schedule ruined by an hour and a half delay just because Hertz are too lazy to pick up the phone!! 4 other customers had the same problem in the 30 minutes that I was in their office. God knows how many people this happens to over the course of a year. On top of all this, I today I called to get a refund from Hertz and they won't even do that even though they never actually gave me a car (they're excuse was that it was booked through Expedia and therefore Expedia's problem. The woman i spoke to wasn't even interested in passing on my suggestion that this would be angoing problem for people due to no mention of needing a paper counterpart in the Expedia email... Absolutely disgusting customer service in all respects. As long as this complete contempt of customers continues Hertz will be losing customers left, right and centre to their competitors. If you go to their Facebook page you'll also see countless other complaints about Hertz customer service which haven;t been addressed. Clearly they don't care about customers or their long-term survival. Nice one Hertz. Good luck with going down the toilet.
