The commission charged by the saleroom is now to high so use other platforms to bid but sute useful to research. Saleroom act as agents for auction houses so always ask for commission reports and note the commission some charge. Most are reputable but experience tells you who not to use.

I have been using The Saleroom for some weeks now, and have found the website a great place to buy and research various items on. I really like the way that everything is set out and the filters allow you to hone in on your choices. Having successfully bid on several lots, I can see those and the lots that I stopped bidding on and this is very helpful. Good website, much better than others!

When this site started it was perfect for all UK auction houses. The fees 4 years ago were acceptable. Since joining the fees have more than doubled out of nothing more than greed. I am currently in search of a better auction platform because 4.9% on hammer price? it should be a set fee like they used to be. Avoid unless you have deep pockets and like to overpay.

There are various problems with the service provided. (1) Many of the auction house engage in sharp practice from not noting obvious faults, skirting around age and if its original or repro etc (2) Many of the photo have filters which makes it much harder to judge the true condition of an item. Esp a problem with silver (3) Many auction houses don't upload condition reports to all sales platforms so some bidders have better information than others (4) Delivery fees can be very high - don't expect to pay less than £45 when using an external shipper and most auction houses don't provide in-house shipping (5) The auto-bid function is explored by auction houses who open high to see if anyone has left an auto-bid before dropping down much lower (6) Still very much 'buyer-beware' and the lack of rules and eBay-style guarantees, or ability to leave feedback about auction houses etc, mean that buying solely online and without physically viewing the goods is a real risk (7) The charges levied by the salesroom are some of the highest of all auction platforms - and you don't get anything extra for it Overall it needs to become much more buyer firendly - otherwise it will never reach its full potential.

Do not under any circumstances place pre-auction bids. Be aware that The Saleroom staff have told me in writing that if they accept pre-auction bids on a lot whose description is then changed, they regard this as a matter for the auction house to resolve. In other words they will take your money for one description, and then allow the description to be changed at the last minute. Recall that The Saleroom make their money from sales, so it is entirely in their interests to force you to pay emerald prices for doublets of green stone. They genuinely don't see anything wrong with this, and simply refer you to the auction house.

I was very impressed with the excellent personal service I received from Burstow and Hewett. They were extremely professional, efficient and polite. When I asked what would happen to anything they did not sell I was informed that if they took it to sell, they would - and they did ! I have already recommended them to several other people.

Generally a positive experience. Website functionality is adequate. Charges are not out of line with the likes of eBay so not cheap. When using this platform you need to realise it is not eBay. You are actually dealing direct with individual auction houses through the platform so do your own research on the buying and shipping costs before bidding. I've not had to deal direct with support as I've not had any issues using the platform which I have found reliable so cannot comment on that. In summary it is a useful service which I would recommend you use with your eyes open. If you don't like the comission, buying and shipping costs then don't use it and deal direct or go to the auction!

auction houses now charge 35% and the saleroom 6% and then the over the top delivery charges, why have auction houses doubled the commission and the saleroom gone from 2% to 6% in 5 years?

I trhink that this is a great platform. There are a lot of complaints aimed at The Saleroom, which are actually due to the individual auction houses. I have found that this platform brings together a miriad of different auction houses, in a very effective way. It is more commercial than ebay, as you are actually bidding in proper auctions, so you cannot backtrack from a deal once the hammer is down. I think its great. Real bargains to be had.

Dear valued bidder, We take the protection of your information very seriously. Unfortunately, we are writing to inform you about a data security issue affecting your LiveAuctioneers bidder account information. We are deeply sorry for any concern or inconvenience this may have caused, and are working quickly to take the appropriate steps to prevent such incidents in the future. We hope that in time we can regain your trust, which we value above all. What Happened Our cybersecurity team has indeed confirmed that following a cyber attack against one of our IT suppliers on June 19, 2020, an unauthorised third party managed to access certain personal information from our bidder database. We were notified of the incident on July 11, 2020 and began notifying bidders that day through email and our website, based on how recently the bidder had used their LiveAuctioneers account. LiveAuctioneers was one of a number of their partners who experienced a breach since this IT supplier’s security was compromised. Our cybersecurity team has ensured the unauthorized access has ceased.

My first and last time. It was fun to see the live auction but their fees are too much. Will never use them again.

Took part in 9 auctions in total. Many problems exist: Materials not as described, modern products claimed to be antiques, artificial gems, when I saw some description like "seem to be gold" I really doubt the qualification, shouldn't an auction house possess testing machine for gold and gems? Sometimes the shipping fee is too high, once you get blocked you cannot pay or contact...

Bad experience. I bought 5 items at Stamford Live Auction and when I receive the lots they were spanking brand new reproductions. Soapstone described as Natural Jade, Resin described as horn etc. There catalogued incompetence at my expense.

I have been using the saleroom for nearly 2 years now and in the process I have spend a lot of money buying items and made them money in fees. You cannot get hold of anyone at the other end of the phone, they do not return emails....I am now contacting the auctioneers direct as a result. DON'T USE THE SALEROOM if you can. Christian Fick

The Saleroom is a fantastic way to access the treasured hidden in small regional auction houses all around the country. Each obviously has their own Ts&Cs but The Saleroom allows me to view and bid in auctions that I would otherwise have no hope of getting to. I have bid lots of times, won a few times and have never been disappointed. There is a small premium to pay, but worth it for the benefits.

My laptop was stolen and someone used my account to put some bids on various items and winning at least one before I could do anything about it. I explained to the Saleroom and they simply said "The activity does not look suspicious to us" and banned me and will not lift the ban. Shame since in the past I had used their website many times to buy things at auction. But alas I should tell you, use the saleroom to look up auctions and items but dont use it to bid, simply look under the bidding form and you should see a link to the auctioneers website. Go there and most of them will have their own bidding system and if not, just get their email and send them an email asking to put a bid down. DO NOT use the saleroom to bid, just browse. Will even save you some money this way since you dont have to pay the saleroom fees!

Good platform to bid on, until Amersham auctioneer blocked my account for a dispute where I consider having been mistreated. Amersham did not block me only for Amersham, but had the right to do it for all auctions!!! I would have liked to block Amersham from The-Saleroom, but of course was not able. I called The-Saleroom and was appalled by the fact they could not do anything to change the situation. Basically, the rights of the seller is better protected than the ones of the buyer. It was the first time in 4 years bidding history it happened to me. I am quite surprised by the way a platform that is willing to be professional treats its clients

Ok......here goes Had a dispute with an auction house 8 months ago, that the auction house banned me through the saleroom. Having spent thousands over the past 8 months with other auction houses through the saleroom, suddenly the ban has been made public by the saleroom and is now affecting my ability to register with auction house. the saleroom response... "you need to contact the auction house to lift the ban:"....ok they have banned me how is that going to work? "sorry nothing we can do" I.e the saleroom takes the auction house ban as literal without even mediating between a genuine and proven buyer and auction house. so how long does the ban with the 1 auction house sit there for on my account....."forever, see our policy" so do you audit and review all of your auction houses listed....no comment so do you challenge the auction house decision....no comment so what account information do you provide to auction houses, as i have sucessfully bough thousands over the past 8 months with many auction houses.....no comment The saleroom customer service and support for bidders against rogue auction houses is absolutely shocking especially with commission they receive.....if I was the general public I would just go direct to the auction house and telephone bid and cut out this none helpful, money making middle man....

I placed a max bid of £50 on an item. The saleroom bid to £45 but on receipt of a bid in the room at £50 I was not given the option to increase my bid (despite 'live bidding') and missed out. The website did not make it clear my max bit of £50 actually meant £45 on the day. On contacting Saleroom I was informed this was 'auctioneers discretion' that they sold to the other person for £50 and not me.

Terrible, too many tricks to deal with. They keep adding time to the end Bid. They added 4 times 10 min to the item I was bidding for, a computer. Previous lot of health food products, they were all out of date. Only told us a few hours before. That is Rubbish!

Website latency issues meant that we had bid on the wrong item, clicked on one item and won two down the line. Complained, awful customer service we then got banned, then partner was banned then a work colleague because we use the same ip address. After reading all the bad reviews about the salerooms huge price increase i think we will take our company business else where, they simply cannot warrant charging that much for a lousy web service.

An absolute shambles. Yes the commission is high but you know that when you bid. I was surprised that there is a buyer charge. Surely they are charging the seller as well. Who ever said that you cannot have 2 bites of the cherry!. However my real issue with the saleroom is there are multiple sellers and they all their own rules and regulations. Like I said, a shambles. Some take payment, some don't. Then you can warning e mails because you have not paid one of them. Then you have to wait for them to send the items but then some don't do that. I will not be going anywhere near this site again.

To be avoided at all costs (literally!). Dealing with this company, their website and the auction houses who use this platform is a nightmare. Each Auction house charges different fees and it is extremely difficult to calculate what your final payment price will be. In addition auction houses are allowed to rate customers however purchasers are unable to provide feedback on auction houses and the Saleroom takes no responsibility for their actions.
