I ordered an archery backstop online, advertisement said it came with hanging wire. I received backstop but no hanging wire, I phoned the company only to be told it does not come with hanging wire, why advertise it and not include it. Not happy

Have made 2 visits here so far, and both times the service has been exemplary. On my first visit, I spoke to Dan who was happy to take time to give me advice and, considering my 'new to archery' status, didn't try to just sell me something, rather he advised me to return when I had more experience to match the enthusiasm. I returned yesterday and again spoke to Dan. Following my first visit, I felt confident enough to return to the store to purchase my first bow, knowing I wouldn't get ripped off nor taken advantage of. The time spent helping me to decide on the things I would and wouldn't need was immensely valuable and by the time I made a decision on the components I felt confident I had made the right purchase. I was able to try the bow on the premises and that confidence was borne out by the feeeling that the bow, arrow, and accesories combination, felt almost bespoke in it's comfort level. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend archeryworld, and look forward to being a loyal customer for years to come.

This is a tale of two halves. I found the visit to the shop to be worthwhile for a beginner and although they didn't have the sizes I needed for myself I walked away with a club kit for my daughter's Christmas present and service was generally good (for which I would have given 4 stars). As we approached the end of November I decided to hold off a similar set for myself incase of any Black Friday online deals. Sure enough Archery World had a 10% off sale. Not the best discount I found but the alternative 20% off elsewhere did not allow for a choice of limbs which were from a selection of equal value and so I ordered a recurve bow kit online with Archery World. The following week I was informed that the riser was not available in my chosen colour and they only had white left (despite the fact that the item was being offered on line with the full range of colours and limb combinations. This remained so every day for the following week when I checked, which suggested to me that they will continue to take payment on orders they can't deliver). I was offered a refund or an alternative for the same price. The alternative riser however retailed at £24 less with them than my chosen item and when I asked about a discount I was told nothing more would be offered and although not the colour I wanted, I agreed to the change in colour. The limbs that were also no longer available were on back order and they had reserved them from the manufacturer and would arrive in the next delivery so that would be fine. About a week later (by which time all other sales had finished) I was informed they would not be coming in and I now had a chose of "a similar alternative for the same price" which of course retailed at £30 less but again a refusal for a discount to take this into account or pay more for more expensive limbs increasing from £96 to £171. Again I asked for a discount on these and was offered 5% (£8.50). I reminded them that this was a Black Friday purchase and had I wanted this combination I would have got 10% at the time. I was amazed that at the very least they would not agree to this. Reluctantly and with exasperation I accepted defeat and paid considerably more than I intended and I paid for the upgrade rather than accepting a cheaper alternative with no discount. I don't recall ever being treated so flippantly and received such a lack of understanding from a company when they have failed to deliver what has been ordered and to expect that items are replaced with cheaper alternatives with no change to the price that for this part of the service I would give 0/5.

I have heard numerous poor reviews of Archery World from members of my local club. However, I have now used them twice for online ordering of archery equipment, and been very satisfied with the service. The first order, some 12 months ago now, was one of the cheapest prices around, and delivered promptly. This week, I e-mailed them to check a stock level - I wanted a riser that was out of stock in most online stores - and a guy called Ryan explained that he was sure they had it in their Preston store, but it was closed, and promised to e-mail me back the next morning after 9am. I received an e-mail at 9.15am the next morning informing me it was in stock, and it was dispatched by FedEx later that day. This is a contrast to some other online archery sites, where they falsely state that items are in stock, take many days to respond to enquiries, and have long delays in processing and dispatching goods. My experience was very positive; I would certainly recommend for online ordering.

So I'm initially tempted to call the trip to Archery World a wasted journey but I'm fairly certain that when something leaves you with a bile filled stomach, wasted is too mild. It's amazing that something as simple as poor communication can cost a company tens of thousands of pounds in business but it does. Sure, I probably wouldn't have personally spent more than a couple of grand in the next few years (New recurve, upgrades, compound and crossbow); but when you're setting up an archery club from scratch and you'll be advising beginner archers on where to buy their gear, the damage snowballs. To explain, being left handed getting what I want can be a challenge but I'm used to it and phone ahead if I have to travel any distance. I wanted to try a number of bow combinations, especially the Hoyt Horizon Pro; so I phoned three weeks ago and explained my plan to visit towards the end of the month, what I wanted and that I was left handed. The response was 'No problem, you don't need to book or anything; we have those in stock and a variety of other left handed bows too'. After a two hour drive.... 'Oh...we don't have left handed ones in stock, we have to order them from the warehouse'. I was so impressed with myself. Tired, low blood sugar, stressed from the insane SatNav and then told that they need notice, when I tried to give them notice; I simply turned around and walked out.
