The character of this historic market has been threatened by property development which seems to be taking years and years while laying waste to this important Soho street. Westminster Council has no grip. Very few of the street traders are left. There are ambitious folk willing to make a go of Berwick Street but a toxic alliance between Westminster Council and developers has created a scandal in the heart of Soho.

Visited as market was closing up for the evening but looking forward to returning when it's in 'full flow'. Fresh fish looks delicious.

Food stalls sell good fresh food on the go. Particularly busy at midday. You can also find fruit stalls. With lockdown ending, most of the street has been taken over by outdoor seating, with the pubs offering a dazzling price for takeaway beer and food. Worth stopping by. Good selection of eateries. Not to mention the visit to the local shops also open, such as fabrics, customes and more.

My father Alan Davis was the chairman for this market from 1983 - 1991, he worked there since 1965, then it was buzzing with loads of stalls, great characters and full of life, now......what a shame, no buzz, all the flamboyant stall holders have either retired or left, just a street with a history now forgotten. I will always cherish my childhood being part of this amazing place.

The market has lost a lot of its atmosphere while development work has being going on for what seems like years now. But there are one or two stalls left. The street is best visited for the cluster of independent record shops in the area to the north of the market. Hope when the development is finished it gets some of the atmosphere back. PS the Mediterranean restaurant is one of my favourites.

Lost most of the character which it had. Hoping that the refurbished area will quickly develop a new personality. If the landlord has good sense the area might attract owner occupiers.. but I wouldn't put money on that happening.

First time back in 20 years, and how it's changed gone are the street barrows, now it's stalls, still has the charm and is so much cleaner, I spent a few hours walking the area and was delighted to see no rubbish.

This has always been a favourite place to browse. My absolute fave place seems to have disappeared - I used to love looking at the illustrations that had come out of books and bought two Arthur Rackhams over the years. But there are still many beautiful stores here and you'll probably find a treasure. Lots of construction going on when I was there last which made it rather noisy but that won't last long I hope.

Such a great choice! Lots of food stalls to choose from. Only a short walk from Covent Garden, and you have St Anne's Courtyard only two minutes away for a great place to sit and enjoy lunch.

An amazing variety of culinary delights. Well worth a visit if in town. The line up of foot stalls always changes too, what fun!

Berwick Street is now a building site now with commercialised atmosphere. Food is nothing special, customary Kebabs, tacos, etc...etc made from low quality meat...well seasoned but a little overpriced for area.

Ignore the terrible fruit and veg stalls and their pig ignorant owners. The sooner they have all gone the better. The dairy shop and some of the street food is excellent though.

Amazing food. Only some of the best stalls aren't always there, so, at times, it is disappointing not to find that very special product!

Went on a Wednesday after lunch and had the best Jerked Pork Belly from the Jamacian BBQ vendor I've ever had. Excellent options and great tastes - very friendly to an American vacationer.

My daughter is studying textile design and this was a street she was asked to visit. All the shops were helpful and we had a great time visiting the several textile shops.

The Indian place with .50p aloo vada and £3.50 pav bhaji is great, delicious and fairly quick. They also do a £5 chicken curry and rice box. Best price you'll find in central London.

Nice little spot in Soho with some good eats that are cooked in front of you. Hard to choose between this and Street Food Union a few minutes away!

Soho may becoming "more residential" but that does not necessarily mean more local people. For us Berwick Street market adds colour, vibrancy to what is becoming more of an area where people buy flats "for investment purposes" rather than adding to the character of Soho. That is why Berwick Street market is so important Down the Peter Street end for example there is a fruit and Veg. stall run by someone we call "Grandad" who is a really nice guy who is around 70 years old. He has been in the area for decades now and I have known him for around 25 years. A real character and someone who really adds to the character of Soho. Long live Berwick Street market!
