Stayed overnight after an operation. Staff were all lovely, helpful and accommodating. Special shoutout to the anaesthetists!

I had back surgery at the Spire in Harpenden. I can not rate every part of my interaction with the team higher. From the initial consultation, the operation itself and all the post op care including all the follow up physio sessions; the communication was excellent, I always felt looked after and cared about.

First time I have been admitted to hospital for an operation. I wanted to be treated privately and it was suggested to me to come here by a friend. At first I thought I was in a 5 star hotel. The staff were extremely kind, considerate, caring and friendly. My room had all I could have wished for during my short stay (including free WiFi). I would thoroughly recommend this hospital to anyone in a similar position to me.

The worst private healthcare experience we have ever had. The hospital is unresponsive and the staff are absolutely lost in time and space. It takes hours and hours to get anyone to answer the phone, not to mention emails. It takes days to have calls returned. Having paid loads of money for the consultations, we received a lot of misleading guidance on doing tests outside Spire, they never bothered to chase the results afterwards or update us on anything. Waste of time and money

I've had 3 back operations at the Spire Harpenden over the last year. All the people who have helped me ie Reception/Security/Imaging/Cleaning /Operating Theatre Staff.Porters,Nurses ,Anaesthetists have all been wonderful and i just can't fault the level of service (and friendliness) i've received at the Hospital. (I just wish i could remember who they all are as they deserve a mention) Special thanks go to my ever patient, brilliant Surgeon James Langdon and Physio Karen Osbourne who have both been amazing and have put up with me for far too long....thanks to everyone though ! xxx

The care I have recieved here I will always be grateful for. I had a very tricky surgery which couldn't have gone anymore perfectly. I felt better than I did when I walked in! I have never been somewhere where you can tell everyone really loves thier job. I was comfortable, staff were very attentive. Food was really good. I was very nervous having had two operations (not with spire) that went badly. I felt like I was surrounded by family and friends. It was hard not being able to have anyone there, but the nurses held my hand every step of the way! I am actually honoured to have been a patient of Dr Mukhopadhaya who is outstanding. She is compassionate, highly skilled, thinks of every detail and does what's best for you. I went to a few consultants and am glad I went with her! Thank you all so much!

Me, my husband and son was previously treated at Spire and now it is our number one preference when needing medical care. We don’t even look for another hospital, the staff is amazing, from drs to reception. Even with Covid-19 in the way, they reach our expectations 100%. We recommend this hospital whenever we hear someone needs a doctor because it’s a great choice. Thank you for being there for us!

I had a really positive experience at this hospital. To start with I felt totally safe for both of my visits covid wise . They have great measures in place. For my consultation there were two staff members asking people to sanitise their hands, handing out masks, and ensuring social distancing. For my Day Case, you had the same again. Everytime someone came to my room they wore a mask, sanitised their hands and asked me politely to put mine on. The facilities are fantastic, the room is better than many hotels I stayed at! Spacious, with a bathroom that included a bath tub, and spotlessly clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable, there was nice artwork in the room, a TV and a phone that you could use at your leisure. Every staff member from the porter, nurses and consultant were amazingly cheerful, reassuring, caring and professional. I got fed and watered after my procedure and the food was really yummy. I think I had a Spinach soup, a sandwich, fresh fruit salad and tea. There were other choices too, you get to select what you'd like. Honestly it was almost a shame to leave, I was so well looked after. I stayed in the Westfield Ward and Mr G Atkin was my consultant. I only have two small cons to mention - for my procedure I would of liked it we could of waited a couple of minutes for the sedation to take effect. I was very aware of everything going on and it was moderately painful still. The nurses were very caring which helped, but I finally felt sleepy and relaxed after I got back to my room. The car park is always rammed! I don't know if from the letters they usually have an attendant , but on my two visits there wasn't one. I definitely think one is needed at all times as I was almost late for my consultation despite arriving 20 minutes early for not being able to get parked. All in all, a wonderful facility with wonderful staff , the covid testing nurse was so cute as well. Her daughter has the same birthday as me. I bumped into her on the day of my procedure and she remembered me and wished me well.

I had a hip replacement recently & would like to thank all the nursing staff on Ambrose Ward who were ALL so caring. I had my physio sessions with Neeta Gohil who was absolutely excellent. Neeta explained the various exercises fully, was totally professional & also emailed me some of the required exercises which was extremely helpful. Full marks all round to Spire @ Harpenden.

Sitting in outpatient reception writing this review. Reception staff friendly enough but not very large waiting area, so I can imagine this getting quite crowded at peak times. And with the automatic doors staying open for so long it could be quite chilly. Thankfully I'm sat at the back. Queue starting to form at reception!

First class treatment. Neeta and the physiotherapy team are all very supportive and encouraging. I would not have recovered from hip operation without them all. Ruth and the hydrotherapy team have also been brilliant.

I had my surgery done at Spire Hospital on Friday the 28/2 and I feel I must leave some very positive feedback for the theatre team. They made the entire experience much less stressful than I anticipated. The theatre team including recovery went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed It is people like you who make the hospital experience better but sometimes go unnoticed. Thank you very much to Dr. Bramall and all his surgical team including Tatiana, Sarah and Kasha for your help and support.

Recently had the Holep procedure for an enlarged prostate under the care of Mr Saleemi. Just wanted to say thank you to him and his team at Spire Harpenden. 2019 was a dreadful year for me and now I feel fantastic and looking forward to the years ahead. The care I received from the moment I walked into reception, pre and post op was fantastic.

Customer service reliant on ridiculous amount of paperwork, worrisome lack of concern for patient data privacy, nothing ever gets done without 3 calls, 2 letters, and at least 40 minutes of delays. Other than that it's all right.

I'd like to recommend Spire Harpenden and in particular the excellent physiotherapist Sarah Smith. I have suffered with shoulder and neck pain for over a decade and at my first session, Sarah identified the problem areas and gave me a progression of exercises to improve strength and flexibility. Unlike some other therapists I have seen elsewhere, she also uses hands-on massage/manipulation which really makes a difference. My neck and shoulder are not 100% yet, as it is a slow process, but the improvement is remarkable.

I had an operation on my left leg in Feb 2019. I can only say the treatment i received was excellent. Starting with my consultant Mr Michael Guest who is an amazing surgeon, very professional, very kind, understanding person, explained me everything. I can't thank him enough. I'm also very grateful to my anesthesiologist Dr K. Piotrowska and her assistant- Matt, all nurses, especially Mira Ogrodniczuk, who looked after me. Hospital itself was very clean and peaceful. Tasty food. Well Done!

I have had many Physio sessions following numerous hip operations at Spire Hospital Harpenden. I can not fault the care and treatment I received from everybody in the Physio department. Rob Westney was my designated Physio and he was professional, kind and fantastic with his advice. I have managed to recover from complex hip problems better than I could have imagined. The hydro pool was amazing and I made good progress following the sessions in the pool. Everybody in the hydro team were brilliant, and all showed great interest in my progress. it was always a pleasure to be welcomed by Maria on reception who was always bubbly and cheerful. If I was feeling a bit low on arrival, I always left the department feeling so much better, mentally as well as physically. I would totally recommend the whole department.

Absolutely disgusted by the way Mr H Parmar treated me ( or rather didnt) today. Just because i was referred by the nhs doesnt mean that he can speak to me like i was something he scraped off the bottom of his shoe. He didnt examine my knee , ask about pain or medication or any previous treatment, didnt suggest an mri ...just looked at an xray, looked me in the eye and said if i lost weight they wouldnt hurt! Doesnt matter that my oncologist told me not to lose weight or that i have actually lost 28lb since February. If you are referred to orthapaedics via nhs because of arthritis then avoid this man at all costs....he made me feel like nothing....i wasnt this upset when diagnosed with breast cancer. I can certainly understand why people take their own lives if this is how they are treated when they finally get to the stage of thinking they are going to get some help/relief and are made to feel the way i was....shame on him! Wouldnt let me post without any stars or i would have done...

I've had a surgery on February 2018 with Miss Akbar. Cant recommend the Hospital and consultant enough. Service is superb so are the consultants and nurses. I was in a very traumatic situation but they made me feel at ease and supported me throughout the day. I am so glad that I've chosen this facility instead of going through the process with NHS.

Excellent. I have had several treatments here. My first was with Tony Corner; when I arrived at reception, there he was waiting to welcome me and show me to his room. This stuff matters so much! Sent straight through for an X-ray and although it was a Friday and he was about to go off on holiday, he very kindly made time at the end of the day to give me a steroid injection which quickly healed my severely frozen shoulder (my NHS GP had been telling me to take painkillers and rest it). Treated with respect and interest throughout - again, it matters. A huge thank you to Sarah Smith (Physiotherapy). Having struggled with back pain for nearly thirty years, I walked out of my session with Sarah feeling absolutely amazing, thanks to her skill, knowledge and expertise. Her efficient yet kind and sympathetic manner filled me with confidence straightaway and I really can't praise her enough! She also cured my Achilles tendonitis very swiftly using innovative treatments which worked well. Honourable mention also to the delightful receptionist Maria who always went out of her way to be warm and helpful. I was so touched to see her come from behind her desk to sit and exchange a few kind words with a slightly distressed older person who was in a wheelchair waiting for treatment. Thank you to all the staff at Spire. You make a difference to people's lives.

Truly awful experience my wife had double blepharoplasty which should be carried out under local anaesthetic but they overdosed the anaesthetic and could not wake her. Surgeon shouted and shook her to try to wake her. Had to do revision twice and almost 3 times but she said enough is enough. They put no monitor on whilst operating and when she started to shake uncontrollably he asked a technician to grab a monitor to make sure nothing untoward was happening like a heart attach! He wrote to our GP saying what a super lady and all went well (obviously trying to cover up) when in fact not once but 3 times it did not go well. So he gave 4 courses of steroid injections to reduce the lumps that had appeared under the left eye and now she has a large dent in the side of her face. one eye droops like a blood hound it was truly a mistake to use this unprofessional surgeon. She wanted a second opinion and used surgeon who was great friends with surgeon that did the operations and he claimed all looks great!! Maybe they all need glasses, they have totally ruined her eyes. It is appalling that such carefree damage can be committed with poor surgery and steroid injections which we now know should only be used very sparingly around the eyes to prevent damage. Please ask for proof previous surgery (not photos but ask to meet previous clients to make sure they really do exist!)

Lovely, kind and very professional staff on the Ambrose Ward. Paticularly Rene, Holly and Jolanta. The pharmacy team have also been extremely helpful. I am very grateful to all. 5th Sept '19 - Update - I spoke to the pharmacy team at Spire about a particular medication (Sushila). I am no longer a patient yet Sushila took time to explain the situation to me and to help me understand what i needed to do. She also called me back with additional information. Exceptional patient care. I was, once agian, very grateful to Spire, Sushila and Mr. Hextall.

I had anthroscopic surgery on both my knees carried out by the excellent surgeon, Mr Brian Bradnock a couple of years ago at The Spires, i couldn't fault the treatment i received from both him and the friendly hospital staff. The surgery did offer a much appreciated period of sustained relief in as much as there was less pain, , but there is only so much that can be done when the knee is truly knackered and in a state of advanced decay, which is why i am going back to The Spires @Harpendon to have a full replacement knee, hopefully in the near future.

I had an endoscopy at Spire Harpenden and would not recommend this department. I was kept waiting almost 3 hours beyond my appointment time ( I was in the hospital over 4 hours in total), in a very cold room with no explanation or apology for the delay. The nurse argued with me that I was actually booked in for a different procedure to the point where I was about to leave. I was also instructed to change into a surgical gown immediately so that I wouldn't keep the Consultant waiting - absolutely no need for this. The after procedure conversation was rushed and confusing and the food I ordered 3 hours previously ( a sandwich) was going to take another 45 minutes to arrive, so I cancelled - I was not offered a drink. I had been without food for nearly 10 hours and without water for 5 hours. I left the hospital having not tested if I could swallow ok. I had the same procedure on the NHS in Hemel Hempstead - it took less than 2 hours in total and was a far better experience with proper aftercare. My advice would be to wait for the extra few weeks for the NHS and avoid this hospital.

My wife had an op here last year and I had one here this week. Excellent surgeon (Shashank Gurjar). Very experienced and friendly professional. The hospital itself is amazing starting with the director Julia Salmon who takes the time to respond to reviews personally. Even the letter I received pre-op had a letter from her inside. Staff and facilities are exceptional - the nurse that looked after me was superb - Niamh. Well done and keep it up!

Excellent hospital for healthcare. A worthy deserver of these five stars. Consultation, plan, support, information and correspondence before, during and post operation was efficient, seamless, professional and friendly. Everyone from the secretary, reception staff, porters, kitchen staff, catering team, serving team, cleaners, nurses and doctors. They all pitch in and make what was an unpleasant situation bearable and comforting. Always with a smile. Thank you to Mr. Fayyad and all the team.

I had an appointment with a Dermatologist Consultant (Verity Blackwell) and I showed to her all my bites from lice and ticks, but she instead of doing a biopsy, she said that I have my itching problem in my mind. She did not want to do anything to heal my sickness, and for me she is covering my Gp from Medical Negligence, she is suffering from lack of professionally and she is thinking that I am stupid and can not do something else to cure my problem of itching that I am dragging this problem for almost 8 month. She must be more responsible as Dermatologist Consultant. This doctor did not comply with the Hippocratic oath.

Went here and had a consultaion and was ready to go ahead with a surgery. Couldn't get the time to go head with things because of time. Paid the consultation fee upfront. This is over year now but still im getting debt letters with threats of court action ect. The bill is paid ive told tjem this and have recepts, copy of bank statements and invoice from them with big red letters saying paid. Another nasty letter today so called them again, got through to one person then they put me on to another who wasnt in and had to leave a voice message witch is useless because i dont know my number for them to call back. Its a piss take

From the moment I stepped foot in the hospital I was greeted with three smiles from the staff on the reception desk. I had my appt within 25 mins and then sent for an MRI scan which i booked in for the next day. My results were clear that I needed surgery as I had a complete rupture of my ACL ( anterior cruciate ligament ) On the day of the surgery I was taken up stairs to my room by a porter who as very friendly and I then got settled and ready for my procedure. The anaesthetist came into my room and asked me some routine questions about my health and also if I was allergic to anything and then the surgeon came in to see if I was all ok and ready for the operation. I walked down to theatres and the rest is a blur really. I woke up in my bed back in my room watching sky sports (very happy) The after care from the nurses and physios has been nothing but amazing. If I had to have another operation (touch wood I don't ) I would definitely come back to Spire Harpenden.
