Good choice of products, prices reasonable. Very difficult to receive any information / help from the staff. Some of them say they are not 'authorised' to do certain things. It would seem logical for each member of the staff to be able to serve a customer.

I needed a breaker bar last minute as I couldn’t make a repair without one and didn’t want to be left without transport. I went online and could see only Halfords Chilwell Nottingham had them in stock, no delivery option was available. So I paid online, filled in my name, mobile number and did a click and collect with the message saying “ready to collect in 1 hour”. I received the confirmation email and after waiting a while set off on the 45min drive, I was met by a member of staff holding the receipt just through the door with my name and mobile number on it, who told me “there has been a stock error, we have no breaker bars”..... I thought he was joking at first but soon realised the trip had been a complete waste of time, fuel, money and false advertisement with no compensation for Halfords error.. Extremely frustrating to say the least. I was asked if I would like a refund, with no other option other than I presume would be they just kept my money if not, I opted for a refund. I was told “maybe you could try a Derby branch” without them actually checking if they had stock which I knew they didn’t, and they can’t be ordered in. I asked a member of staff why they didn’t just at the very least ring me, as he was holding a piece of paper with my name and number in his hand, with no reply other than a sorry and directed me to the till. My local Derby Halfords branch has always been a store I have enjoyed going to with a great range of quality tools, automotive, bicycle products and great helpful customer service, but not so much at Chilwell. It is these kinds of situations that I find extremely frustrating as a customer, being someone who has worked in retail in the past I don’t understand why someone wouldn’t take the initiative to contact a customer and information them of the stores mistake/error, knowing they would be on their way if not, there was plenty of members of staff standing around and standing outside the store. I just hope someone reads this and tries to prevent this from happening again, as it is these situations that sway customers in not wanting to returning to a store for repeat business.
