A free of charge and not to be missed attraction in New York. If you want to see the whole thing, consider paying to join the guided tour so you can go inside some of the famous rooms e.g. the General Assembly. I didn't mind much and actually rather enjoyed exploring the open area at my own pace. So didn't need to pre-book anything and to gain admission, all that required was to get a security pass from the office across the road. For security reason, there is no luggage hold area and all personal belongings must not be left attended so avoid visiting the place on your first or last day of your trip as all large luggage is not permitted. The building is very spacious and feel more like an art gallery or a music hall. Staff are friendly and happy to answer any questions. On the basement level there are cafes and bookstore as well as toilet facilities for you to recharge, refresh and relax. Don't miss the sculptures scattered outside the building, they all have a story to tell.

One of the greatest things that the US has ever done is creation of the United Nations! To marvel at the aquamarine glass of the UN Secretariat Building, is to marvel at the power, influence, diplomacy and greatness of America. While there, you can take one of their tours. Nothing like it. This is where the world comes to say what it wants to say. The freedom of this place is matched only by the prestige all the flags bring to America each time they flutter and herald names of lands distant and foreign - but very much a part of the great commity of nations that together comprise our world!

168 empty desks. 168 unused backpacks. 168 million futures hanging in the balance. This pandemic classroom installation at the United Nations in New York is a powerful reminder of the global education crisis. The desks and backpacks represent the 168 million children whose schools have been completely closed for nearly a year due to COVID-19. Our message to world leaders is clear: no effort should be spared to reopen schools.

The architecture is beautiful. History needs an update of what this building means. I know! Wikipedia, an autonomous Wikipedia! Whoever climbs to the top controls... ???? ???? I have to clean this place up. ????????

ago They provide guided tours with those who want more detailed features in the headquarters. The tours are, of course, not for free and can be applied for online but they are totally worthy. For those who are travelling NYC in not enough budgets, this is not sure but I assume you can just go in the buildings. During the security check at the building right across the HQ, you can say the purpose is for tour. But you would not be able to enter the specially purposed places, but the first floor and the souvenir shop downstairs possibly. Not sure, so please check with others!

Had a guided visit earlier today, and I was thoroughly impressed. Not only is the actual building beautiful and imposing (as are its many famous rooms, especially the General Assembly), it's chock full of many beautiful, gorgeous works of art donated by all member nations.

If you are in NYC and have time this is a must visit. Definitely book one of the tours in advance from the website. Make sure to get there early as you have to check in across the road in a separate building first and ensure you have your passport. The tour is very informative and it's great to see everything in person that you see on TV. It also gives you an appreciation and better understanding of everything the UN does. After the tour it finishes near some gift shops that sell items from all the member states and a great cafe. We really enjoyed and spent a few hours after the tour just walking about and looking at all the various displays etc. Once you are in as a guest and after the tour ends you can stay for as long as you like essential (or at least until it closes lol). Plenty of great photo ops aswell. Definitely an A+.

The role, function of the UN with 6 committees are amazing and make me think how I can contribute to peace, security, development and human rights. You will see this: General Assembly Security Council Economic and Social Council Trusteeship Council International Court of Justice Secretariat

Tours are very professional, and informative. The UN itself does such important work; and getting in and visiting helps to show how much they do! I’d recommend this even to those who don’t have a particular interest in politics or governance. The artwork, architecture, concept, and beautiful vistas are amazing.

From the front gate to assembly room and different cuisine. I urge anyone who has yet to see or visit the building please do so. This world has so much to offer, the UN works so hard to bring Peace and Goodwill.

It is so different than in pictures or movies. The tour was excellent and changed my perspective of how the UN functions and how they can make a difference. Definitely a must see on a trip to New York.

One of the best experiences in my life . It was on the 9th of August. I visited the Head quarters of the United States on a program of Indigenous People. The security of the UN HQ is so protective and they are so serious about their duties. But, friendly and helpful. Before you walk in you'll see a lot of monuments and statues gifted to UN from other countries. After walking in you'll discover a lot of architectural stuff. Nice gifts from Nations to the United Nations. Very satisfying. Also, they have a store you can buy stuff as a memory. The programs are very well organized and a lot of stuff to learn from people. Great memory!

One of the better tours I’ve ever been on in NYC. Hands down!! Educational. Fascinating. The artwork is beautiful that’s been donated. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My only recommendation would be more knowledge of the architecture of the building and how it was built and designed. That was the part I was more interested in.

It was a great experience to be part of history. United Nations as it stands has been a great initiative by mankind. This tour gives you a chance to go around different meeting rooms through the headquarters of the building. It is a history/civics lesson for the three pillars of the UN. All in all a great experience for history buffs. Money's worth.

I got emotional when I entered the building for the first time. I went to NYC for a model UN and I absolutely had a wonderful experience. Entrance procedures took a long time but it was obviously for a good cause: security was strict. I felt safe.

Really an incredible experience to tour the United Nations headquarters. We were very lucky that all of the conference rooms were available for us to tour. Please arrive early because we need to go across the street and through security there prior to starting the tour. Make sure you have the appropriate identification. I highly recommend this to her to anyone.

Attending the ????????United Nations International Youth Summit on Sustainable Cities, Communities, and Climate Change was unforgettable. Using that moment to educate our children on the importance of issues like global poverty, gender inequality, women's /children's rights, youth empowerment, and Climate Activism.....simply priceless!!!!

We went on a weekday for the tours which are $20 / Adult and $12 / students. When we initially checked online a week before, there were no tickets available but the night before they opened up. So make sure you check the website regularly. Otherwise you can go there and buy the ticket for the next available tour. Make sure you go to the Visitor center across the street from the UN building to check in and get your hand band. They only allow 1 person in the group/family to go in. Kids are welcome to go with parents so they can get a nice experience. Then you go across the street to the UN Building through security. No water bottles just like airline security. There are water fountains inside the UN building to fill them up. The tours start inside the building and run every 15 minutes and they last around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Some tour guides see good; ours was ok. We had a hard time understanding her with her accent. They take you through the various rooms where the delegates meet and discuss and provide a history of each of the initiatives of the UN. Don't miss the stone statue which was scarred from the atomic bomb. It was smooth on the side that fell and faced the ground and scarred on the back due to the intense heat. After the tour, there is a cafe and a gift shop in the basement. You can stay as long as you want afterwards, but there really isn't much to see.

It has three high rise buildings in very posh area of Manhattan. Visitors are allowed in one if them. It was great from outside, however inside wasn't as great as I was expecting. Inside interior is quite humble and simplistically designed. Just like any posh building in Islamabad. There were quotes on the walls from people around the world who contributed for the betterment of the world somehow. From Pakistan, it was Malala's... Then, there were souvenir shops and a little cafe. Walls were decorated with portraits of various world leaders. I liked the outer area more than the inner one. It's recommended to visit here if visiting New York because of it's historical importance and for the sake of experience.

The tour is fine. You get to see the general assembly, security council and trusteeship council halls. Beware that in one or more of these halls, meetings might be ongoing and you may not get to see it. Also, although some people get to visit the floor of these halls, visitors on tours are not allowed to even get close to the floor. I'm still wondering who were the others who could tour the floor - which is actually what I was expecting of a tour of the UN. There's a check-in and a security check before you can enter the building, too. So, if you have purchased your ticket online, prepare to be there about half an hour early.

It was one of the highlights of our New York trip to be at the UN building. Can you imagine being right at the center of the World's Stage? We got a guided tour to learn all about what UN's mission is and does. We were lucky to witness the General Assembly is session. There are 193 countries that are represented at the UN from permanent to non-permanent members. If you have not been to NY or the UN building, you owe it to yourself to go there. They are involved in worldwide peacekeeping missions to ensuring health and education and food and safety and planet's future and more.

Don’t bother coming on the weekends, there really isn’t much to do other than walk around the General Assembly and the courtyard. Try getting a tour if you can. However, the building itself is really impressive, and is filled with history. The overall feel from the interior is reminiscent of an upscale conference centre from the 80s.

The tour was unexciting and most of the rooms aren't even used anymore. Seems like they're trying to paint a better picture of UN than it actually is, and we don't even get to visit the places where actual UN work is done. For $13, not worth at all to look at 3 unused rooms

Amazing experience. Did the UN tour while I was there. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour itself covered many interesting tidbits about the UN as a whole. Wish we could have had some time to self explore, but given the location, I understand why we weren't afforded that opportunity.

This amazing complex has been the UN's head quarters since 1952. To visit it you need to do it with a tour, or you can also sneak in as guest of someone who works there. That would be the best as you could go to the UN bar, which the tour does not take you to! Either way better to visit it when is warm so you can walk outside without freeze. You will visit the multiple meeting and conference rooms, of different sizes, and each of them with a different decoration. The General Assembly is the biggest and probably the most famous one as we have seen it multiple times on TV. Lots of experience art in the corridors, donated by each of the member states. Really interesting place to visit.

Had the beat time exploring UN headquarters. You can get a pass across the street to enter the building and explore the art gifted from various countries on the patio, visit the ever changing art galleries inside, and take in all the good vibes. If you pay, you can get a tour of the meeting rooms but it's enough to just explore the many art displays on the first floor.

Great experience inside! Total security here- theres a small office infront United Nations that you need to pass through first in which they take a copy of Your Identification card inorder to enter and a picture! You then pass to metal detectors and finally in the building in which you see the history of the different technology that was used back then in order to communicate with other countries! A cafe/food place is here and even a bookshop, clothing shop . Great experience to visit if you want to discover more of the jobs and meetings being held here !
