I have lived in Castle Donington for roughly two years and used this co-op frequently. The customer service is usually good, the prices are usually a little steep - the usual stuff you'd expect from the co-op.
However, today - the day we were clamouring to get the house sorted before we move out tomorrow - we were sideswiped by a particularly poor experience as we were purchasing a beer each and a bottle of wine as a gift for the new residents moving into our house.
We were prompted for ID (being 27 and 28) which is a bit unusual, but not a problem. Being a former employee and CSA at the co-op I fully understand the challenge 25 policy and that the employee serving the restricted goods is liable if they serve restricted goods to minors. I had my ID (28) but my partner didn't as she had forgotten her phone, purse and everything else.
The fact we were prompted for ID is not a problem. The problem was that as we stood at the till pausing for a second to figure out what to do the employee went on a lowkey tirade and rant about the policy not being her fault, rolled her eyes and flailed about before nastily demanding to know whether we wanted to speak to a manager. Before either of us could reply she then stormed over to the tannoy and requested a manager visit the till. The manager came over and was then subjected to a similar rant 'explaining' the situation as we both stood there rather puzzled. The manager then said something like "nah, get out" before again explaining the challenge 25 policy that we're both fully aware of.
Another precious (on this particular day) 30 minutes later and we were back at the co-op and being served by the same employee for the same goods, my partner now having her ID. I asked whether she needed to see my ID again and received a bit of a snotty "I didn't even look at yours last time" response.
I can only assume the employee was having a particularly bad day, but it has marred what has otherwise been a good experience that we've received from the co-op.
Quite disappointing.

I use the cafe for breakfast sometimes mainly because you can get fried bread, not top ingredients but tasty and good value, check your cutlery as every time I go I find dried food still attached.

Lovely, clean, safe enviroment and friendly staff.
The only thing that let it down was the 'fresh' baked donuts were rather stale yet had the days date on that l brought and we ate them- very disappointing

We have all been in the co-op but this one has a very fine hot food counter
maybe this counter was born after lockdown i dont know but their pasties both vegie and meat are the very best taste iv had for lunch in a long time.

The staff here are friendly but the food is highly overpriced compared to sainsburys and asda and even more so compared to lidl and aldi. There's a nice cafe in the back that I wouldn't mind trying when Boris decides to let everyone get on with their lives.

One of the larger Co-Ops so has a wider range of items to find. You can do a full shop here if you need and there's always a wide selection of items on offer
I've had the odd issue with questionable veg from here, so it's best to check. The staff are fantastic and whoever recruits here deserves a medal as every member of staff has been friendly, informative and helpful.
