The hydro therapy pools are warm at the best. Complained several times and temperature is never improved. Used to be ok about 6 months back but now it’s a real shame because I use to really enjoy it after a work out. Avoid !

There isn’t much they can do about the small free weights area, but the dirtiness of the place is disgraceful (and other reviews have been saying this for years). Windows are filthy throughout the building and all the glass in the spa is revolting. The walls in the spa are dirty too. The big glass wall that separates the spa from the rest of the gym is disgusting. Totally ruins the feeling of relaxation. The main event is the pool overlooking the Thames, and that is gross too. The edges of the pool area are covered in cobwebs and dirt. It is astonishing. The glass has had a snail on for the past 6 months. I just don’t get it. With the TERRIBLE hours (shutting at 9 on a friday) and the amount we pay - not cleaning is simply a disgrace.

The spa and pool area make this gym feel premium and worthy of its top tier price. However it falls short in other regards. The building is showing its age with mildewy and stained wet areas, very poor toiletry dispensers (30+ pumps to dispense one applications worth of conditioner) battered lockers, no air conditioning in the main studio. In addition guests from the adjoining hotel are allowed to use the gym making it feel more like a kids club than a health club at times. Classes also get overcrowded, registers aren’t checked meaning you often lose out on a space in a class you’ve booked as there is simply no room. Class instructors are good though and classes run quite late in the week which is really handy for after work sessions. I go to this branch because of its location to my home but it does not hold up to other top tier Virgin Actives in the City (check out Aldersgate, Mansion House, Walbrook) other than the pool and spa area which is a cut above.

Great spa facilities and great pool. Gym is not to a top standard compared to other Virgin Collection clubs. There is some unecessary machines on the strength floor, and missing other vital ones. Even Bank has more interesting equipment even though it is a smaller space...

This is a terrible club, Small, poorly equipped and with terrible level of service. Front desk staff are simply rude. The pool is nice but the rest of the club is small, crowded and filled with 20 year old equipment.

Good equipment, big and spacious areas as well. The jacuzzi is great. The swimming pool can get really crowded and people put their towels on the beds and occupy them unnecessarily. Try to avoid the pool when it's most popular.

The worst customer service ever it's impossible to get a straight answer of any member of stuff they always promise to call back and never do. Classes are over crowded during the weekdays and gym space is small. The only good thing about the club is the spa area.

Extremely poor customer service. Staff is poorly trained and simply doesn't care. Very small, poorly equipped gym. During peak times there is no room to do anything with long waits for equipment. Old and mostly out of date cardio equipment. The nice pool and location are the only positives.

People need to STOP FILMING on the bloody phones in the spa area like it's a tourist site. This is bloody childish and rude!
Also people spitting In the spa area and also leaving there gum in water fountains! I have complained twice now and they dont seem to give a damm!

It was between this and the Reebok gym. The pool and the view swung it. That said there needs to be more space and especially things like pull up bars are lacking a little. Good classes

It was my first time here. I believe there is room for improvement. The spa room was very dirty, on the floor, around the door handles, outside the basin and also the handle for the massage bed. Disgusting ???? The pools had a very high amount of chlorine, too much from my opinion, as I felt it in my eyes and nose when the jacuzzi came on; my skin was smelling of chlorine even later in the evening, after having shower and using body moisturiser. And also the salads from the lounge weren’t fresh. My friend found something that looked like hair in her salad and mine was a bit mushy. The staff there didn’t even refund her the whole money and I was told that nobody complaints. Well, I’m sorry to be “the only one”, which I doubt. It’s not only about claiming to have 5 stars or being a Virgin Active gym, and have high prices, it all comes down to the service provided and the quality of it. It was an ok experience, but wouldn’t go back again.

I've been to a fair few gyms from hardcore bodybuilding to commercial ones. Prices here are not cheap but you do pay extra for the amenities such as the hydrotherapy and swimming pools.
Few suggestions that I would say is to install a lot more weight machines as the technogym ones currently are simply not up to par with the competitors out there, particularly for back movements and possibly another cable machine as one is not enough for the amount of members.
Also the opening times could improve by adding a couple of hours either side of the opening and closing hours as people who work in the city don't have much time to use the facilities fully and always in a rush...

The spa is constantly either broken, either in maintenance.
The staff has no time to show you how to use properly the machines, meanwhile they are floating in the jacuzzi in between their classes.
I had very unprofessional replacement yoga teacher and ended up with an injury.
Quite often, there is no one at the café to serve you.
This club is not up to standards for that monthly price.
The only good thing is the view from the swimming pool.

Things have changed here a little bit: shorter opening hours and seemingly more aggressive sales. The small gym floor is of course still small. I started using Aldersgate during weekdays though they also start shutting sooner - don't really get it in the age of 24/7 gyms. All this stretches the perceived value for money.

First Collection club at Virgin Active chain. Lockers slightly outdated and need refub as soon as possible, spa area could invite some improvements and innovations too. Stunning Swimming pool, which featured at James Bond 007 - SkyFall as Shanghai Pool. gym as own is very small, and classes obviously fully booked as their are published to calendar. Avoid workdays between 3PM and 7 PM, totally overcrowded madness

Generally speaking it's a good club and the pool is fantastic however if you're going at weekends you need to be out of there by 10am otherwise it turns into a zoo with all the family sessions and swimming lessons. If you want to train seriously at weekends try the broad gate club (also virgin active).

I was most impressed by the massage I had there. My therapist was quite a nice person to talk to, we laughed a lot. Then I had a facial. The beautician knew how to work on my sensitive skin. The spa had cool facilities like jacuzzis, saunas, spa pools, and what not. I was happy with my stay here.

Me and my wife signed up on Saturday 20/10/18 and decide to change our mind today 22/10/18. We were expecting to loose our joining fees after our change of hearts. My wife leaving process went very smoothly but as I had used the gym once on Sunday (because you know god forbid I want to check out the fancy gym) I was advice I couldn't leave til November which was on the contract we had signed... This would been fine except neither of us had seen the contract today! The only document both of us recalled seeing was the health wafer, we then realised that we were asked to sign twice without being shown the document.
To add insult to injury I was not impressed at how the gym failed to check whether my wife would be happy for her data to be pass to a third party.
To virgin's credit, Lucy the manager was very professional and gave us the info we needed to sort out thus mess.
Overall not very happy.

I was staying at Canary wharf Plaza and used your gym facilities and I would just like to praise one of your trainers a red haired boy I think he's name was Tad he was really helpful and so supportive I looked abit like a lost sheep in the gym not really sure where to start or what to do
Tad took me through a quick workout and gave me that extra confidence boost that I needed
You do not come across people like that anymore so it was a breath of fresh air

Showers not in line with the rest of the club. Dirty and too old. Noisy people in the spa area, no staff to keep an eye on the situation down there. People using Jacuzzi always splashing who is relaxing in there. No answer from staff when contacted on the website or via review iPad (that is now always available).

I was a member here for a couple of years. The pool is nice but the equipment is old and often not in proper repair, the classes are a joke, the worst personal trainers around. Don't waste your money here. Reebok Gym is just five minutes walk away and is 1000% better!

This is just not the same level as City branches - appalling, I don't understand how the Virgin brand can claim they are on par? No grid classes, wonky mirrors in tiny free weights area, old changing rooms. Pay just because of the location! If they took the pool away they would have the same level free weights area as £20 per month PureGym! A real shame as if this was anything like Tower Bridge in terms of Grid classes, let alone like Cannon Street or Aldersgate, which are in the same category (how?!). I used to be a member of the Tower Bridge and then Singapore, each was significantly cheaper than this joke of a branch and far far better. What a waste.

Today Tuesday 9th of May I was totally disappointed about Canary Wharf branch. Been a member for number of years and worked for company in the past.
As usually myself and my partner and roughly about 50 people were outside at 5:50AM in the morning and been told by the cleaners that someone has locked themselves out. We understand this happens, however I did not expect Virgin staff not to have spare key for an emergency. We've been left behind for at least 30 minutes with no explanations and then someone appears and said it will be another 20minutes at least.
Considering everyone was angry and out of their morning regime I must say this is most negative experience I had with Virgin Active. People pay premium price's for the reason. Colleagues of mine been with Third Space for a while and been trying to persuade us to join it, now it seems I have no other reasons. My morning/day is completely out of schedule .

Has not been refurbished in years despite promises. Management of the facilities is spotty, machines are recently more and more out of order. Used to provide jugs of water regularly, now it's on and off (often the plastic tumblers are simply missing) and there's no fruit infused water anymore. Cleanliness is also so-so - there are dust bunnies all over the corners of the weight training room and the box with equipment stinks so much that I've given up opening it, much less using the equipment. It's quite a small area, too. Sometimes personal trainers hog the floor space. The changing rooms and showers are old, hangers missing, hairs on the floor. Management/staff can be awful and /or clueless although that's understandable considering the big staff turnover. Good location, people seem to like the classes and it's fairly quiet in the afternoons is why I am still coming. The sauna in the women's changing area is good too. The pool is lovely and the view (it's what you're paying for!) is great. The hygiene rating of the cafe on the premises is something like a 2 out of 5, which is embarrassing. Unfortunately this club is just not up to par with other clubs for that price. Now that pure gym has opened at Limehouse and West india quay, the value proposition of this club is becoming less attractive. UPDATE - have since left the gym, got fed up with the filth and poor equipment. They removed a bunch of sofas right in the middle of the lower ground floor where people used to wait for classes, cordoned it off and put racks with towels there with a sign stating "Towels will now be stored here. " You just can't make this up...

We are members here and it's a great place to train and to relax, however we are very disappointed when on the weekend mornings the pool change rooms and even relax spa area is over run with noisy undisciplined kids and their parents who don't control them. Last weekend the spa pool had about 8 under 10 s in it. Not relaxing after we had worked hard!
