Good quality gym, great equipment, spacious and with great views, which is a rare find in London! The changing rooms are clean and there are plenty of lockers. The only con of this gym is the price.

You’re not allowed to eat your own food in Virgins lounge/café despite being it being completely empty! I like many other people I know like to meal prep/eat my own food. And to not allowed to eat your own food at your own gym is ridiculous. This also means you probably can’t sit down and drink your protein shake also. The café manager apparently said the café is a separate company to Virgin (Lexington), despite the usual surrounding virgin active computer monitors and sofas. I spoke to Virgin and they told me that they can’t do anything as their lounges are now being run by Lexington, which basically means that Virgin gyms no longer have lounges anymore…Just some random restaurant bolted on. I do not pay Tier one pricing for half a gym, and a warning would have been nice before Virgin decided to just eliminate a large part of their gym without telling anyone. Considering moving to a better gym that has whole package again.

Went to this gym twice a day for many years. The gym itself is great, however the facilities like the pool and sauna were often shut. Also not being able to eat your own food in the cafe area which no longer exists so you can't eve buy food if you wanted is abit ridiculous. Also over the years i have had a number of expensive items stolen here. Gym has alot of potential, just lacking in some areas, especially for the price.

Fantastic club with a great variety of equipment, space and plenty of light. Much unlike a lot of the city Virgin Clubs. But more importantly fantastic service from the reception team, specifically Sophie. She is truly a beacon of light and is always radiating a positive helpful energy. Good on you Sophie. ????????

Sad to hear the squash courts are out of use. I was thinking that the unlucky series of events that have befitted the area would have been rectified during lockdown. I was looking forward to using them. I suppose I need to find a new club now.

SQUASH COURTS CLOSED Hi guys, reopening BUT no squash courts will be in use due to maintenance?! I think all the companies and individuals that use the courts should suspend membership payments until this is resolved. I have. You have had a year to sort this out. I really want to come back. Please can you make this a priority?

Good facilities and services. I have been using during the last few months and Is being safe, clean & it cares about COVID19 prevention. The only thing is that sometimes a few PTs don't respect other user spaces when they are training their clients.

Had one of the best experience in all the Virgin active. The receptionist Sophie was just wonderful at reception. She was smile, helped me a lot I wish every Virgin active would have people like her.

This is probably my favourite out of all the 5-6 virgin active clubs I tried. I love that the gym and many class exercise rooms are spacious with huge windows, high ceilings and lots of natural light. Unlike many pools in London, their pool has high ceilings and big windows - there is also a large jacuzzi and saunas. Even pre-covid, it wasn't too crowded most of the time. The receptionist, Sophie, was very friendly and helpful every time I interacted with her. Look forward to returning soon!

Been a member with Virgin Active for over 4 years. To push for better results and enhance my training, especially because I have a condition on my right shoulder, I decided to try Personal Training two years ago. Best decision I have made. Since then I have been training with Hugo Marques as my PT. Hugo really understands my training goals, always motivates me in the right way and challenges me every session with a wide range of different workouts. Beyond this he is also very approachable, helpful and always goes the extra mile to help me in making progress. Could not recommend him highly enough!

Nice gym but needs to take covid more seriously. I’m a member of the Moorgate branch but also regularly use the Wandsworth gym too and there are clear differences in how they are approaching this. At Wandsworth there is sanitiser spray within 5m of your equipment whereas in Moorgate you have to walk 20m through people training to get to the few sparse bottles they have on the gym floor at the sides. It means that barely anyone is actually going to the effort of wiping down after use and also means you are walking right next to a load of people training just to get to a bottle. There needs to be way more of these around the gym, preferably at every few machines/benches. Seriously how expensive is blue roll and sanitiser. If wandsworth can do it so can moorgate. Elsewhere in the gym the walkways and corridors are layed out well but there is zero social distancing in the changing rooms, with four other people in the same changing bay as me. I’m not really sure what can be done about this apart from limiting the number of people in the gym or requiring people to use face coverings in communal areas except when training. I generally felt very safe here until the last couple of weeks where it has got very busy.

Facilities and classes are good, but unfortunately the customer service and awareness are pretty bad. One of the personal trainers sent me an email offering a complimentary PT - had to speak and message 4-5 people, including a few managers, before I gave up a month later.

One of the best health clubs in the city. Has everything you could ever ask for and more. Amazing classes and a reformer Pilates studio included! Easy wrist band lockers, free towels and Molton brown shampoo/conditioner/hand cream. Brand new spa pool and generally very clean sauna and steam rooms. It’s a pleasure having a workout in this place, would definitely recommend.

For £100 per month you get to *enjoy* taking shower in puddles of [dirty] water (horrible shower facilities) and do cardio when listening to trainers screaming their lungs out to other people doing aerobic training on the gym floor beside you (yep, no chance of hearing what's playing in your earphones) and waste time waiting for a small number of equipment to become available. I would not recommend it to anyone.

This used to be a great club but it has really deteriorated in the last 2 years, as has the Virgin Active customer service. Things take weeks and months to get fixed, cleanliness can be really poor, some equipment is old and dirty (especially mats), they cannot control the temperature (rooms either boiling hot or very cold), it is hard to get onto a machine and sometimes a locker in peak times, there are often drain flies in the showers, the spa area has limited uncomfortable plastic loungers and isn't very warm. Head office take weeks to respond to e-mails and seem to limit investment.

The gym is very good if it wasn’t about one staff called Ella Griffiths which provides a very poor customer service and does not offer help when necessary, she always made me pay different prices as was mentioned before with no accordance with the rest of the staff which always treated me really well.

If I could I will give this gym -1 First of all I was incorrectly charged £98 and second of all I haven't received any response from their customer service team ( I have been chasing since early June). This is really shocking! and I was not expecting it from Virgin at all. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! there are plenty of other gyms around where customer service is on a high level and where you can be treated with kindness and respect.!

Gym equipment is great, as too are the facilities here. Wanted to trial the gym for a few days before committing to the huge costs per month, but the staff wouldn't allow me a single pass free of charge. Paid £20 for a single session, so don't expect to try before you buy here. Exclusive gym, so understandable... just be prepared! :-)

I assumed the place would be less busy than other gyms because of the price but that's not the case. Poorly maintained equipment and there's often a loud, distracting class weirdly going in the middle of the gym floor. I need the gym to be relaxing and I pretty much always leave once this starts. Understandablely the crowd is a bit older and a lot of people don't understand basic gym etiquette. The sauna area is fantastic. Staff is always very nice. Depending on what you're after maybe more of a 4 star gym for London (but London gyms are all pretty bad so...)

I did 4 months of PT training with Josh Carter at this gym with excellent results. Josh was a very attentive of my goals and designed my workout plan around my goals. I highly recommend Josh if your goals are to gain muscle mass whilst working out in an enjoyable atmosphere.

They seemed to have cleaned up the weights section recently. The gym generally has everything you can need and kept in good working order.

A filthy gym. Gym floor and lockers never cleaned. To get from the showers to the lockers you have to walk through mud (literally). Gym floor filthy. Mats and balls covered in grime, hair and dust everywhere. I have never seen any cleaner on the gym floor. Spa and sauna nearly always out of order (or sauna cold). Arrogant and aggressive staff if you complain about something. Don’t waste your money at this gym.

Absolutely terrible customer service. I have been in contact with more than five different staff members over several months and every single one of them just stopped responding. This is despite every single staff member saying they would resolve issue over the membership type I have. Beyond words as to how awful the customer care is - join another gym!

I don't expect upgrades, but it is very disappointing and annoying when things get worse... After jacuzzi area being closed for months, it reopened in a worst condition! Today the amount of chlorin in the jacuzzi made my eyes water and throat tight (and I am not allergic or asthmatic!), it was foaming like soap bath! The jets are non existent. The water is cold. The new ceiling lights are horrible and painful on the eyes... Whose bright idea was it to put bright yellow lights in the space that has natural light?! Moorgate is the only VA (apart from canary wharf) that has advantage of spa area to look out to the nice open space of green space of the army baracks... Before there was soft dim light, jacuzzi was hot with reasonable jets, and you could enjoy large windows and natural light. Now it is awful bright yellow lamps, and the jacuzzi equipment that looks like second hand (or worse) picked up from some other gym that got rid of it. New customers from outside are brought in their street shoes without cover to show the area. Disappointing going downhill from the time I joined 3 years ago.

A big thank you to Hugo for all his motivation and making me go the extra mile. I have attended his classes and trained with him regularly. His very friendly and funny character made me appear at the gym constantly. He is open for feedback and adapts exercises to your needs. He always made me do harder exercises - even during his classes - as he knew I wanted to be challenged. When he changed clubs I decided to cross half London not to miss his training and classes. I can highly recommend him

Tried out this location today. Very strange space with the reception on the ground floor, change rooms one level above and gym floor an additional level up. No towels in the workout area so if you need one you need to go back downstairs. Staff is friendly and helpful. Change rooms and gym floor are not clean. Every locker I opened was full of hair. All the mats in the stretching area were dirty as well. It all needs a good scrubbing....

I train with Josh Carter here and I'm really enjoying our sessions - I've learned a lot! The gym facilities and the pool are solid, it generally has everything you need. The gym floor can get very busy at certain times, the pool is always decently quiet.

Hello VA Moorgate, have been a member for 8 years. The Moorgate club has a lot of potential, it has big sitting/lounge area (which is deserted at the moment) and the gym floor is large. However, the showers are so so dirty also the lockers have never been cleaned and the water fountains are never work properly and the water is warm and smelly! Why VA don't improve the basics? At moment London has the best gyms, you will be loosing memberships if you don't improve. I am only commending because I like VA. Please improve your gyms as competition is big. Thanks

A good gym if you can afford the high membership cost. This branch is the nicest virgin active I’ve been too. Very popular with the working crowd meaning it is very empty on weekends or during work hours.

I can understand Jacuzzi or steam room can be sometimes under construction. But the makeup remover doesn't exist anymore and the plastic bag for swimming suits was empty yesterday at 8pm. I have tried other branches so far and why does this only happen in Moorgate branch?

I enjoyed this gym at the start, but since then its gradually gone downhill. Warm water fountains that barely even work the water trickles out - these need replacing or repairing. Cleaners rarely do their job, showers are often grubby, filled with hair and soaps are empty. Lockers are overly packed too close together meaning you are rubbing up against other people or having to stand and wait for them to be done so you can access your locker, not ideal when needing to get to work. Toilets are dirty and grubby and often smell. I often see cleaners standing around in the changing rooms, then go into the showers and the floor is black with dirt and full of hair, it would be great if they cleaned! The gym facilities are good - not enough for the capacity they take though, there are not enough benches, and people are often waiting around to hop on one as soon as someone stands up. There is not enough free space to do HIIT workouts etc, especially when the GRID area has classes on at the gyms most busy times. The swimming pool is average, lanes are not big enough for people to swim past eachother meaning you often knock their arms. The spa area is also average, the new jaccuzi is nicer than before, but doesn't fit in with the rest of the grubby walls and floor that are black/cracking away. Sauna and steam are average but fine! Stairs from the changing rooms down to the pool area is often black and dirty.

Grim, crowded, unfriendly and out of order - I was a member of this gym for 6 months in which the spa was constantly out of order. There was no mention that it was broken ahead of me joining and seemingly no progress to repair it whilst I was a member. On top of this the gym is ridiculously over crowded (I hate to imagine peak times) and it's very poorly maintained from a cleanliness perspective.. That is of course unless you like lockers filled with hair and dust and showers blocked with the same as well as other grim looking substances. If I could give this place 0 out of 5 stars I would.

Good facilities available here, including excellent personal trainers, particularly Josh Trevorrow. His sessions are phenomenal and dynamic. He tailors them to avoid your workout from becoming boring and repetitive. The encouraging techniques and methods Josh uses ensure you're motivated and reach your goal.

You cannot check in using your standard card if it is not your home club and you need to collect a rest band every time. There is a quque all the time at the receiption to get the band. Also many times I was told there is no enough lockers available. Avoiding it from now on.

I train with Hugo Marques and he is the person who changed my approach to the gym - his positive vibe and great sense of humor always make me feel highly motivated and competitive. His approach is very personalized, he perfectly understands what are his client’s needs, so he makes it challenging in a right way. After every session I leave feeling happy and strong.

Virgin Active Moorgate is one of the nice gyms in Virgin brand. Different group class options, a nice modern gym floor, pool, steam room, sauna, SPA and clean changing rooms are a few key points. Moorgate is a high Tier club so it is really expensive. Compared to other virgin gyms it takes really long time to fix problems in the club. Pool is closed many times, many lockers are broken, locks not working and they don't take care of it quickly, when a bike on cycle class is broken it takes a long time for them to fix. But on the other hand this gym has many nice and really good personal trainers and instructors. I am working out with Maxine Willis and she literally is the best trainer in many I worked out with and I can say she changed my life. She is real professional and helps you through everything, trains you, listens to you and helps you to reach your goal. I never been to gym every day in my life but thanks to her now I love going to gym every day and working out. Dione Francis is The Pack (cycling) instructor and I am sure she can make anyone love cycling. Tim Wright giving a group cycle class on Wednesdays which is an amazing challenge for spinning and sprint lovers. He is a real professional and if you want to learn technic he is your guy. Virgin Active is the most expensive gym but if catch a deal such as vitality membership etc. it can worth the money. Moorgate management is a bit slow to respond to the needs of the club but still thanks to trainers it is a nice place to be with convenient location and other benefits.

Froze my membership in May as I no longer lived near the gym. Ended up cancelling my membership online in August. Now in October I have been billed for a full month's membership. Apparently I got an email needing to confirm that I really wanted to cancel and they needed confirmation I wanted to transition my freeze to a cancel. Nothing was mentioned to me of this when I canceled online. Ridiculous. Apart from this the gym was pretty gross. People would leave wet underwear and plasters in the showers, no one put free weights back or cleaned down the machines and there was never a free lane in the pool. Not worth the price and dreadful customer experience!

I used to have a gym membership a few years ago, but going to the place and exercising was too much of a chore than a pleasure. Things changed dramatically the moment I joined the Virgin Active club in Moorgate. The facilities are great and the stuff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Here I found Noach, a personal trainer who truly finds a way to motivate me, without being too pushy. He understood what I wanted and together we designed and agreed a plan that was tailored not only to my fitness level, but to my personality as well. I like to be fit and move around, as I sit even too much during the day at work. So if like me you are looking to improve yourself and get some exercise, I highly recommend this gym and Noach, a professional, funny and flexible personal trainer who will get you exactly where you want to be.

Love going to Virgin - super slick facilities, clean and great PTs. Dean (my PT) is working me hard at the moment which is what he's meant to do and I'm starting to see results. Thoroughly recommend Dean! Having a pool and squash court on site makes it for me too and bonus of steam, sauna and jacuzzi puts the cherry on top. Lockers could do with sorting out and more space as always in busy times!
