Unfortunately covid times are not happy times at the library. You are supposed to stay a maximum of 15 minutes. You cant even look at the books before you take them home, as the picture books for children are already made up into piles tied with string. Consequently I have two books about dying grandparents to 'enjoy' with my 2 year old. The one way system means you have to push your buggy up three steps from the children's section. I do feel that this would be pretty simple to make more accessible and wonder when the library will get some joy back.

Libraries are few and very far between. 'Family friendly' extends its worth way beyond just books and study. Wonderful children's section. Popular study areas. Friendly efficient staff. Small cafe. Toilets on both floors. Easy access. Gift shop. Use it or lose it.

I find it accessible and enjoy going there to change my books frequently. Students can access computers there too to do their work etc.

They have taken the Apocalypse seriously so it's safe to use for books and book exchange.

Virtually empty and yet you can only be in there for 15 mins. It's not a confined space for goodness sake!

I didn't want to be too harsh with less than three stars, but you can understand why people put 1. I don't need to sit in the library to study/work so it's not too much of an issue for me. But this place is noisy. You could never study here with the kids library in the same place. Because it's just a small quick visit for me it's fine, but if I had to spend any time here on a deadline it couldn't be done.

Lovely building and books but it is so noisy, kids shouting, music groups playing bongs and singing and a coffee grinder on every 5 minutes downstairs make it imposible for people upstairs to concentrate or study. Such a shame the nursery or coffee shop don’t have any walls it ruins it for people who need to research/study.

A nice place, always quiet - a great selection of books and media to lend. Unfortunately, loses a couple stars as when signing up it isn't mentioned about their drop off services, or the ability to drop a book into any B&H library - which for someone like me, where work hours clash regularly with opening times would have definetely helped me in regards to having to either constantly renew books or pay unnecessary fines.

Good range of books. Good computers and staff. Not good are the screaming kids in the nursery area of the library and the habits of some visitors. Only yesterday, while using the 15 minute drop in computer, A 60 year old man using the computer next to me , had a rather disgusting habit of lifting the top of his t-shirt and continually touching and exposing his belly .

I use this library a lot especially for revision and work. It is always very busy as the library is so popular. They also have a section for children which means if you are sitting downstairs it might be slightly louder. However, upstairs is more calm especially if wearing headphones. They also have a cafe with coffee which is very helpful. Around GCSE time there is a lot of students there so it is usually more busy. Overall it is a very nice library and would recommend.

I am grateful to have a place like this, you can come and work..... but makes you wonder why there is kids playing area in the library? You can't escape from the noise. Fingers crossed someone comes up with better solution!

Very nice architecture with comfortable and quiet study spaces, though some staff on the second floor are unwilling to help and rude to library users. Also not welcoming for laptop users: most plugs are unavavilable for public use:cost saving perhaps.

Nice a big library unfortunately very noisy. There is no way you can study or focus on work. All respects to children as I love them and I was one of them. In my opinion they should be separated means not sharing same floor. Also feels like more coffee shop that a library. If I could I would stay home instead but not all of us have that luxury so we need to go somewhere. Library used to be quite and nice not anymore! Some people should understand and respect others eating crisps with headphones on must feel comfortable but what about others ? Person seating next to you?? Really sorry but I think this is not right. Thanks Emil

Soulless concrete and metal box with hardly any books on show which is swallowing up over half the libraries budget owing to PFI payments to the detriment of other libraries in Brighton and Hove. Needs to relocate to a large empty premises which costs less, preferably near a bus stop to make it more accessible for those with age and health issues and get rid of this white elephant. Also incredibly noisy and hard to study in. Very poorly designed considering it was purpose built.

Nice library but not very nice to come to. It's loud they have events with choirs banging drums loudspeaker music it's a really bad place to come and sit read a book or study.this is a library not a children's day centre or a concert hall take your events someplace else.

Why it's acceptable to combine a library with a children's play area is beyond me.

Too many books. Poor Hangleton library is running out of books. However this library is good because there is no libraries extra so means it is open all the time.

I am literally so grateful for this library. I only use the study area - to work from essentially - the library has been my desk space! Re. all those people complaining about the noise - it really isn't that bad - and actually this is a resource for everyone. There are hardly any places for parents to take their children anymore - AUSTERITY IS REAL PEOPLE! And so a bit of noise by some kids every now and again is a tiny price to pay I reckon. The only thing I would say is 10am feels kind of late to be opening. Otherwise, it's warm, bright, clean and invaluable.

Once again in a public service miserable members of staff. If you don't want to be working here then don't. I went this morning to print something out with my daughter and I was in a rush. I printed and went to collect at till and it took about 10 minutes to finish the transaction the 2 staff members that were standing there didn't even bother to say hello how are you today or anything. Not even to inform me that the printing will take a little time. They spoke between each other and in a different language and didn't even apologise for how long it took. Very disappointed. I don't understand people should be friendly and willing to help or atleast communicate.

A really lovely local library in a great location. Great childrens section and as you would expect, knowledgable staff. Our daughter loves it there and no doubt this library has a hand in her love of books. We need to support our local services more.

I’ve been to many libraries around the world but this one is unacceptable. Actually you could say it is not a library but a restaurant or a pub where everyone can have any kind of lunch, anytime. They just bring their crisps, hot smelly food and have a normal chat with friends. Just like you were in a pub! You can also find teachers giving any kind of lessons to students in the main hall where you’re struggling to study. There isn’t any control of the situation from any member of staff. I’ll try the Hove library next time, although I don’t know if still exists.

I tried using the "quiet" study area as a place to work whilst in-between moving house. It's about as quiet as a fog horn in an echo chamber. There are distractions literally every 5 to 10 minutes, & it seemed like everyone who sat next to me either had a snivelling cold with no tissues to blow their nose into, or some sort of compulsion to make loud heavy breathing noises, huffing, puffing or generally chit-chatting. Basically, not a good place to work if you're trying to concentrate. Remarkably, I found it easier to finish the work I was doing at a pub down the road! Nice, well stocked library though with friendly staff.

This is a fantastic facility. Loads of services and extremely inclusive. Wonderful facilities for children. While this appears not to be so popular with people who would prefer their libraries to be silent, it is a great way to instil a lifelong love of books and reading.

Libraries encourage people of all ages to use the facilities. This includes babies. You can't expect babies or young children to be quiet. There are always quieter study areas to be found. This is a good thing.

Great mid-sized library that is suitable for all people. Open space can be distracting as noise travels freely. Not many of the study / reading sections are comfortable for prolonged laptop use. However, on a good day you can bask in the sun while studying near the windows on the second floor (which is quite annoying when looking at a screen). Tesco express is across the street, and benches are right outside for a quick break or bite.

A hidden gem, a beautiful and impressive library space with a well-curated stock of books in a large variety of general and expert subjects. Also has a gift shop, a café, and conference rooms for hire.

Low rating mainly owing to the almost constant noise throughout most of the building. The "study" areas are often the worst with people talking loudly, using their phones. Staff do little about to counter this and are often themselves very loud when walking through/in these areas. Also, pretty poor book stock and PCs are often less than reliable.

Would be great if were not that noisy. No one ask the noisy people to keep it down. The other day it was a guy having a loud conversation on the phone close to two librarians and no one did anything. Is like that everyday. It is extremely noisy. It is almost like to be in a pub.
