Home of the Chelsea Pensioners, about 300 of them and now not just exclusively men. 65 acres of land in the middle of Chelsea. Founded by King Charles II in 1682. Various events are held here during the year, including the Chelsea Flower show.

This establishment just warms your heart, knowing that the Chelsea pensioners are cared for so well. The grounds are impeccable. You are able to take a walking tour around much of the grounds & some of the buildings, including the chapel & the great Hall. There is a museum that is definitely worth your time & Cafe within the grounds.

A unique historical institution functioning as a large retirement compound for British Army veterans. Retaining impressive buildings, chapel and interiors attributed to Christopher Wren and the recent Margaret Thatcher Infirmary among the aggregate. But it’s the spritely pensioners, traditions and ceremonies in situ that are the main attraction here.

Spectacular surroundings of architecture by Wren and Soane. A sculpture of King Charles II by Grinling Gibbons in the Figure Court. The Wren Chappel is most certainly worth a visit. The carvings below the half dome is by William Emmett, Master Carver before Grinling Gibbons and William Morgan. There are a two beautifully made chairs of oak and a beautiful murial in the half dome. The Dining Hall holds a fine row of paintings of royal benefactors. Including Queen Anne. Nell Gwynne is also mentioned as a benefactor. The museum building, built by John Soane, holds a model of the Royal Hospital as it looked at an earlier date.

Lovely place to visit, particularly on special occasions, when the old soldiers wear their red. Very good café on-site. There are lovely grounds to walk round and the church is stunning. Very impressive. All the way round the grounds are lots of things to see, including sculptures made by the old soldiers themselves. Really nice that these ex servicemen and women are so well looked after.

The Royal Chelsea Hospital has enormous history behind it, very famous and is the home to the Chelsea Pensioners who are veterans of the British Army which adds to the history of Chelsea and dates back to 1682. The 66-acre site is well worth a visit and is also the venue for the Chelsea Flower Show in May. It is a beautiful architectural legacy left to us by Charles ll and Sir Christopher Wren.

This wonderful retirement and nursing home for some veterans and good characters of the British Army is an absolute must. This astonishing complex buildings designed by Christopher Wren is home to the CHAPEL which contains a fine painting of the Resurrection, and the GREAT HALL, used by the pensioners as a dining hall and also for recreational purposes, that contains a large mural painting from around 1690, which depicts King Charles II on horseback being crowned by the winged figure of Victory, with the Royal Hospital Buildings behind. In addition the Chelsea Pensioners have a club facility including dining rooms, games room, a fully stocked Library, handicraft centre, bowling green, allotments and a very elegant bar in which to entertain themselves and while away their ritirement. I often attend this place since I am a Local showing both travellers and londoners the real Chelsea area, and I have to say that there is not just a big history behind this unusual place, but also great men and women, who make this place even more special, who served this amazing country and keep its history alive. My last review is for "The PET", my favourite Chelsea Pensioner, he's got such a great and postive Karma and also a Street Art Lover. Come to Chelsa, Experience and Live this unique and unexpected London gem, not just visit it.

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show was on and a very worthwhile visit. Public transport including the tube is the only way to get there and back. It is expensive at the show but it is a very good day out. The weather was very hot but not humid. Unfortunately my heart condition limited my walk abouts but the availability of drinks and ice creams was good.

We visited independantly. Able to view great hall and chapel. Had light lunch in cafe. All good. We were on an organised tour - with an "in pensioner" guide last August 2016 - that is EXCELLENT and well worth doing. Great place to include when visiting London, especially if you have a military connection

What a remarkable 'retirement establishment' - very smart old soldiers enjoying the fruits of their long & distinguished careers - taken around by a very knowledgeable NCO with a well developed sense of humour - an interesting & enjoyable visit - highly recommended.
