I have been accessing inpatient AND outpatient treatment at Nightingale Hospital for many years after trying many other facilities in the UK and abroad, and I can honestly say it is the best mental health service available. I can promise you that you will not receive mental health care of this world-class level anywhere else. Please do not take stock of some of the very questionable reviews below. This hospital, it's experts and nurses will change your life.

After reading so many reviews before I attended the hospital I was absolutely petrified and really scared to go. On arrival everybody was so friendly and helpful. I truly had a good experience the therapy sessions provided were great help the staff were all lovely and generally give you the time of day. The food in the restaurant is literally 5 star. I'm glad I was admitted this hospital has changed my whole life. You can wash your clothes have your own room with on suite. Nurses constantly checking up on you every 15 mins to make sure your safe. I can't fault this place everything has good and bad but mine was over all a good experience. Thank you to the staff you guys are amazing ????????

This is my second time here and absolutely nothing has changed in one year. I have yet to be assessed by a therapist and have been here for nearly one week, I never received orientation to the ward, explanation on how to access and use Zoom for group, an intake binder/packet, items of mine were lost by the staff, my shower floods the entire bathroom, patients from other units are touching one another within staff view, nursing staff does not know basic wound care, and it seems as if the weekend physician on call can’t be bothered to do his job which is to ensure the safety of those under his care. This place is a nightmare. I can attribute part of it to the COVID pandemic but under qualified therapists who are close minded and do not accept that the treatment of trauma is integral in the treatment of alcohol and other drug use is archaic. It’s not 1950. Instead of shaming clients this should be a healing environment and safe space to explore mood disorders, trauma, substance misuse, and the like. My mediation is dispensed sporadically and often incorrectly. I have to remind staff to read the bottle so the give me the right dose (which is alarming as I am on several controlled substances). Please choose another place for yourself or loved one. A place that will listen to the client/service user rather than blank them. I shouldn’t have to tell the staff to do my vitals every morning, update the charge sheet, and complete a risk assessment. I just can’t believe this place is still in business. Oh, if the SMT would like more information, they can come visit me on the 3rd floor. x

Needs more nursing staff to patrol and a secure door system!. On a visit I heard a high risk patient managed to leave the ward, go down stairs, hide in the corridors undetected, waited for reception to get busy with visitors, crawled passed the desk and ran out the door behind an exiting visitor. Where were all the staff? It was over half an hour before the nurses realised this woman was gone. This could have been my sister. Theyre taking on patients they arent prepped to facilitate. There's no door security or ward presence to really police patients. Making the receptionist man the main door for patients and everyone else while running a hospital desk is irresponsible and unfair. Every time i visited, reception was busy. The way its laid out and organised, they stand no chance against plotting mental patients while taking care of everything, i felt sorry for them. The way the door is, there is nothing that can be done to stop patients if they run up and catch the door. There seems to be nothing stopping them leaving the wards unchecked either. There is 1 door and everyone is coming in and out at all times. There seems to be no staff half the time, so front desk is alone in it. The times we went out, the receptionist would have to chase up nurses for confirmation we could leave, which ate into our allotted time. The nursing stations are usually empty - the place is badly understaffed and POORLY organised. Theyre more interested in money than safety. My sister made good friends but that is not what we paid for. They call themselves a Psychiatric hospital yet function like a light spa retreat. Who evers in charge needs to start over.

In facilitating my speedy recovery, I just want to thank the entire staff for their dedication. I am highly impressed with the respect and dignity with which the medical staff treated me during my stay.

Good decent hospital. I gave 4 stars as my husband has just been admitted 2 days ago. A very quite atmosphere. The staff is attentive and his Consultant is going to see him on Saturday. Which is very comforting. All good so far.

Be very wary before going to this hospital and spending so much money especially if you are not insured and are going to the mental health part of the hospital. I went to the Nightingale suffering from very bad depression and high anxiety. Good things are the nursing care is excellent and the staff are lovely and kind & rooms kept very clean. Sadly many negatives. On arrival, they are very overeager to make you read/sign many forms and take your bank details if you are not insured. I was in a very bad state on arrival and was rather taken aback by this. I did not get to see the psychiatrist I was referred to until the 3rd day and I noted she always came in the evenings sometimes as late as 9pm. Be aware that psychiatrist costs are on top of the hospital fee. I did not realise this until I got there. As I was covering my costs, I told this psychiatrist that I couldn't afford to stay further than 2 weeks & I had already stayed 3 days. (My current anti depressant had stopped working, I was at the highest dosage and been on it for 10 years). The psychiatrist said they would need to taper me off this drug over 7 days and then introduce a new drug. Although she said this was a short time span, so a fast wean, she agreed to it and would monitor me for brain zaps and v high anxiety. AT NO STAGE DID SHE MAKE ME AWARE OF THE RISKS. ie delayed withdrawal/discontinuation syndrome that could be severe. As I considered her a well qualified professional, I trusted her. Big mistake. 3 weeks after leaving the hospital my mood was so low and desperate I tried to take my life. Sadly, the private psychiatrist who referred me to this Nightingale psychiatrist, who knew about my fast taper & saw me 2 weeks after discharge, did not red flag this and discuss re-introducing this drug to lesson the symptoms. Over the next 9 months my symptoms grew very severe - including akathasia, change of personality, anger, ranting, terror and high suicidalisation. Normally, I'm a kind, warm hearted, patient person. I had to give up my work and I was admitted to an NHS mental health unit 3 times as so ill (which is another hideous experience I would not recommend). It was only when I finally got better (having been given Lorazapam and been pumped with another v strong anti psychotic) that my symptoms subsided 9 months later. It was only when an NHS psychiatrist mentioned that the drug I had been weaned off can cause bad withdrawal/delayed symptoms I researched it more. All the symptoms I'd suffered so badly from where there on established sites. So if you do go to this hospital do your homework first on the drug you are on, withdrawing from or going onto. Many psychiatrists don't believe in delayed withdrawal symptoms so be VERY wary. I nearly lost my life 3 times due to a very bad decision made by the psychiatrist there. I also lost a year of income and my family were so concerned about me put private nursing in place which I had to pay for. Lastly, the food there is pretty bad for the money you are spending - I ended up having to order food in to get a balanced nutritious meal. Everyone knows how much exercise is key to mental health so I was VERY disapointed by the lack of this on a daily basis. Yoga was offered in the afternoons at times in the same room as where groups were held, with a carpet that hadn't been hoovered/cleaned. With horrid strip lighting so hardly relaxing. The groups for mindfulness and other techniques taught were good. The other morning groups with no structure but just asking patients to talk about their mood/feelings were worthless. You were put in a group where people had similar diagnosis but as my group had one guy who was always vocal and talked for ages most people dropped out. If you are prepared to go abroad there are far better hospitals on offer particularly Oasis Recovery Centre in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa at a 3rd of the price.

Extortionist private hospital taking advantage of medicated patient weaknesses! I witnessed how a patient on medication who was late to an appointment (easily due to medication they prescribed) was charged hundreds of pounds for being late to one single appointment out of many many other paid and never missed appointments, even when the patient wanted to reschedule since the patient needed help. Shame on you Nightingale! You call yourself a hospital...?! You are not!

I was an outpatient at the Nightingale Hospital for several years and was considerably worse leaving than when I first entered the place. It is administratively chaotic. My psychiatrist was more concerned with being liked by his colleagues and staff than upholding basic standards of confidentiality and professionalism. My therapist was, quite simply, not qualified to do the job with which he was entrusted. I would advise avoiding large, private equity-owned hospitals such as the Nightingale because they keep investment needed to operate a well-run organisation to a bare minimum. Patients suffer the consequences. The result is evident in the non-stop scandals in which the hospital's in-patient facility is embroiled. Google "Nightingale Hospital patients for cash" or "Nightingale hospital suicides". Having experienced how uncaring and damaging it is as an outpatient, I shudder to think what it's like to be confined to the place overnight.

The staff here saved my life. I am back on track with my work and with my family. In a nice way I do not want to come back here but if need to this would be my first choice 100%.

Only been an outpatient but I absolutely credit my therapist who undertakes my CBT sessions with making such a huge difference in my life. Treatment is ongoing, but I’m a world away from the dark place I was last year. Very friendly staff from reception to medical dispensary, they don’t watch the clock when you have a session and are super empathetic. You have to help yourself with mental illness but my therapist Ms L.K is an excellent help to me!

The Hospital has been bought by a new organisation and has a new Hospital Director who is committed to improvements. I was impressed with the hospital Director and his professional manner. The hospital looks like it shall improve significantly under his management.

The staff took advantage of me and my age. They treated me unfairly and them saying mental illnesses weren’t something real to us was destructive. The staff were bullies and did not help me with my recovery. But I made some great friends there so go if you want to make some new friends but also if you are willing to be bullied by staff.

Some of these reviewers should try a stint in an nhs ward, strapped for resources and cash and with staff under intense strain, and maybe they won't be so quick to complain

My consultant was accurate and understanding and staff were like angels never had nursing like it since I was a nurse in the 80's such a difference from the other well known provider for mental health that made me so very very ill over 2 years. Just 2 weeks in the nightingale and I am finally starting to live a little more. One negative I fractured my ankle due to falling using plug sockets behind a desk. As we can all be unsteady on meds would suggest asking nurse to help, nothing is too much for them, wish I had, then I wouldn't be in this huge boot! All in all if you are mentally unwell don't mess around with the others go to the nightingale and get well!

Do not go here if you are looking for treatment. A nurse gave me the wrong medication on purpose and said it was to “help me”. I asked for Tylenol and she gave me a narcotic drug Tramadol. The same nurse I believe her name is Shawna was completely inappropriate trying to discuss trauma with me. My consultant (doctor handling my case) avoided me for 3 days even though she was in the hospital for 2 of them. As a voluntary patient it says you can come and go as you please, but the staff says you can’t leave except an allotted amount of time supervised unless you contact the advocate who reads them their own hospital policy.. They do a passover in between shifts to know what’s going on with the patients for the day, but some of the staff doesn’t know what they are doing and seem as though they have not been trained. Examples of this are not being able to find medication or they dispense the wrong medication. Not knowing a patient is going through withdrawals. Not knowing where the office is. This place made me worse would never recommend it for anyone.

I was at this “house of horror” in 2011, having suffered a serious psychotic breakdown. I paid £7000 for ten days !!!! It was the worst ten days of my life, without question, and I was far worse for the experience. One counsellor who charged £125 on top of the £700 per day, even forgot we had an appointment ! The food wasn’t fit for pigs, let alone people ! If I could blow this hell hole up, I would happily do so. After I left, within ten days I was suicidal and completely away with the fairies. I threw myself at the NHS, and thank God, they helped me back to good mental health, FOR FREE !!! If I still sound angry, I am, this place is PURELY a money making machine, mainly admitting young rich addicts, who come and go over and over again, at massive expense to their parents. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, should be closed down !!!

It did not help me at all. It made me worse. The group therapy is very awkward and everyone is affraid to talk. They don't know what they're doing, they read everything from a textbook. They say that the therapy is confidential but all my personal information leaked out to all the other nurses. It helped no one. ????

Granted its not really a place anyone wants to be, but the staff really do try their best to help and compared to NHS facilities the services and treatments are excellent.

For some reason my review seems to have been deleted. Maybe it was because I pointed out the night staff would sleep on the job & were possibly some of the rudest people I've met; they should not be working in mental health services. Overall, 2 month stay in general psyche was absolutely useless; group therapy was a mix of people with all different problems, barely had time in the sessions to talk at all. Not to mention the frequently changing psychologists meaning we all had to recount why essentially we were here, every group was like an introduction. It seems to cater more to the eating disorder & addictions unit. Every patient I spoke to in the general psyche ward found it pretty much useless. Only reason I give it two stars are for a few of the lovely day nurses on the ward & my amazing consultant ! (A certain Spanish lady) Apart from that, don't waste your money on it, I'm just grateful it was my insurance not me paying for it!

Modern day torture house. Evil staff, totally ineffective, highly dangerous treatments pushed on you. Avoid at all costs!!!!!! Go to Dianetics centre near Blackfriars - that will actually help you without poisoned drugs, and 40,000 volts through your brain!!!

Bruh the teacher didn't even know how to teach .. and community gathering was a MESS they got nothing done and we weren't allowed to discuss negative things at the dinner table ??? And they didn't let my frien with an ED shower for a week because she wasn't allowed to stand up for too long ¿? For a private expensive hospital they should improve it
