American Animal Hospital, Dr. Gill, has been my veterinarian for over 13 years. I'm a multi pet household with dogs and cats and even have had hamsters and guinea pigs which have been treated by Dr. Gill. He is an amazing veterinarian whom I have tremendous faith and trust in giving proper care and diagnosed with my animals. I also do rescue work and he has helped many critical and sick kitties and saved their lives. Dr. Gill is understanding and compassionate and has a true gentle nature and energy about him that the animals can sense. His staff is also fantastic and I always feel welcomed when I arrive.

Moved from AZ and was sceptical about finding a good Vet after trying more than several times. The American Animal Hospital in Mira Mesa is a single-doctor practice at the Target shopping center - It more than exceeded my needs and expectations. The heart of a practice lies within it's support team. The Vet Tech is amazing as well as the rest of the staff. Dr. Gill is excellent - he knows his stuff..!! and he has expert diagnostic skills. In my 4 years of going there, he cares for my 2 Pit Bulls as well as my (difficult patient)-Shepherd mix. I've "never" known him to push for more income. That in itself says a lot. The place is kept immaculate and the customer service is the best. Sincerely, a very fussy, dedicated owner of large breeds.

I recently got a beautiful dog from the SD Humane Society and received one free exam by a local vet. I chose American Animal Hospital because it was just down the street; however, after my visit I would travel miles to go back to them. They were kind, caring and accepting of my "bully breed" without judging her and she was a doll while there. She loves people and they made her, us, feel welcome. I give them five stars or whatever is the best rating.

I used another vet in the area. He was obviously only concerned about money. Dr. Gill was only concerned with my pets pain and needs. A huge relief. I don't understand why more vets can't realize these animals are peoples kids that can't have one. Best treatment for my dog ever. Times that are met with pain and anguish should be met with a doctor that cares about that!

The facilities are very clean and there is never a long waiting time for your appointments. I simply can't say enough nice things about them. Dr. G was very gentle and calm when taking examining our beloved guinea pig. What I appreciate most is he didn’t try to prescribe anything because he said he was in good health. Which he could have easily done. The staff was very friendly towards us and our pet and made and very kind.

American Animal Hospital is great! Reasonable prices and no worries about recommendations of unnecessary procedures. A friend referred me to Dr. Gill since she has been going to him for many years. I found him to be very professional as well as very caring and gentle with my pet. He was able to perform the necessary procedure the same day as I brought my cat in to see him, which was a relief since she was in such pain. The entire staff is very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this hospital!

We love this place. We have taken three of our dogs there. This was the first time we have ever taken one for teeth cleaning and was afraid she would come home afraid, but she came home very playful.
The people there are very helpful and pleasant. . We will be taking Stella back for her annual check up again next year.

I have known Dr. Gill since 1989 when I got my first vet assistant job at Camino Santa Fe Pet Clinic and ever since then he has been the ONLY veterinarian for all my past and present beloved dogs. Even though I moved to away from Mira Mesa 4 years ago I still take my fur-babies there and Amber, Debbie & the rest of the staff are very friendly, caring & helpful. THANK YOU ALL for taking great care of my precious fur-babies!

The one star is for how they handled contacting us after our dogs spay I had it documented in her paper when I dropped her off that after 430 they needed to call my husbends number do to I'm at work they never tryed contacting tell 6pm which is 30min tell closing but they called me immediately when she was ready to go home which was at 5pm and I'm unable to answer, so they waited a hour to call my husbends phone number that was listed for them to call past 430!! Which is annoying and inconvenient what if we didnt make it there before closing! They need to read the patient papers more closely

All of the staff is extremely friendly and patient. My oldest dog has a host of medical issues and I had a similar amount of questions that in hindsight were probably a result of me being nervous. Despite the inane questions they always responded in a kind fashion. While the amount of pills prescribed seems a bit much when compared to the previous vet, there is no denying it helped my dogs. Price wise it is a bit steep, but that may also be due to the ongoing medical issues of my pets. Overall, I would say it is a good animal hospital to go to, but it doesn't come cheap.

Our dogs are always taken care of by the staff here. Everyone is friendly and they have great customer service. I really like that they tell you what they're going to do and the total cost before they proceed with any treatments so you're not blindsided at the end of the visit. Great place to take your animals for sure.

The crew here is amazing some have been there since I was very young . me and my family have been taking our animal here before I can even remember .. over 2 decades easy. with all the animals my mom and grandma collected they were here alooooot. and I will admit with the # of animals they had, they as well can be a handful. but the crew always was the best toward them. once my g-mom past ,Dr gill showed up to her funeral. how cool is that not only do they care about the animals but they also care about the owners.

I found a poor hamster dhydatrated, injured, and dying and l was told that this place would help so l go and explained this to them and the first thing the old lady asks in an extremely rude manner is, "And are you going to pay for the exam?" Uhhh, l have a dying hamster here and that's the first thing you ask and to top it off you're very rude about it! I'm angered by so many places not being willing to help when a poor animal is dying! All they care about is money. I called an endless amount of places and no one was willing to help so now this poor hamster is most likely going to die.

We have went to this vet and had good a experience with initial exam and vaccinations. It was until we needed a form filled out by them for our apartment complex. They refused to fill it out until they have another exam. All the form was asking was have they examed this dog, weight, temperment and vaccinations. My dogs rabies was good until 2018. They said that the temperament could change. My chihuahua was with me and very friendly. Finally after the exam I passed on the extra $200 stuff they wanted me to spend to fill out a form. Then they made sure to put on the form the stuff I passed on that had nothing to do with this form. I thought this would have been an easy thing for my vet to do but they turned it into an opportunity to rip us off.

Unfortunately, I CANNOT write a positive review of Dr Gill and his diagnosis and treatment of our beloved pet Ariel who passed away after getting a rabies shot at American Animal Hospital. A day after after the rabies shot Ariel started to vomit and fell off the bed dislocating her hip. Dr Gill immobilized her hip and gave her a shot to stop the vomiting while prescribing a food for her to eat (which she would not eat) and oral medicine. Ariel became sicker over the day and we brought her back where she was diagnosed as dehydrated and given fluid. Ariel never recovered and died a painful, tragic and needless death. Now I am being blamed for Ariel's death because a stupid rabies shot!
