The staff at Bungard went above and beyond the call of duty on the day and beforehand to make sure everything went perfectly and the attention to detail was second to none .

A truly amazing family run business that cares about how you say farewell to your loved ones. This is the second time I have used this company in 5 years and the same care and attention to detail was exhibited. I do not live local to Bungards but they were able to help with all the arrangements from liaising with the church and crematorium and the floral tributes. Having someone on hand to help in this was was extremely helpful and they understand totally that saying goodbye to someone is individual every time. Throughout the service they were there in the background just in case they were needed, respect was shown at all times by all staff. We are in a difficult time as it stands with Covid but Bungards helped with anything and everything I needed to do. Thank you everyone at Bungards who played a part in saying goodbye. Christine.

My mother recently passed away in Brighton and my dad two years before that. Both funerals were handled wonderfully by Bungard. And specifically by Ben.
These were worrying circumstances for my brother and I, as we’re not local – I live in Edinburgh and my brother lives in Winchester. But we were in safe and reassuring hands on both occasions.
Ben made sure it wasn’t just mum and dad who were cared for, but also us. Thinking one step ahead when our heads were cloudy with grief.
When the time comes, and you need a funeral director I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bungard.
It’s a stressful and upsetting time, of course, but you’ll be treated with compassion and gently taken through what happens next and dealt with promptly, but always sensitively.
This is a very personal service, that’s never pushy. Warmth and friendliness just when you need it most.
I notice 5-star reviews like this are the norm for Bungard and deservedly so.
One thing that isn’t touched on so much is also worth considering:
The business is independent, and family owned – this also deserves your support.
Once, as far as I understand it, nearly all such businesses were family owned.
Passionately serving their communities in any way they could. In recent years, however, there have been big changes.
Big chains have gradually been buying out local funeral director’s businesses, usually when senior members retire. Often the name is kept, but not much else.
Many customers believe they’re placing their trust in a family-owned organisation. Not to mention supporting a local, independent business on their high street.
Sadly, in a lot of cases, this isn’t true.
With Bungards you’re getting the real deal - personal family service when it matters most. As they say themselves in their own literature – ‘this isn’t a job for us, it’s a vocation’.
Funeral directors like Bungards (Brighton & Hove’s oldest independents – 112 years and fifth generation) have made a long-term commitment to their community.

From the moment we contacted Ben in regards to our daughters funeral he was very caring. He did not push us into making any rash decision was able to advise us on many decisions.
He treated our daughter and us with the utmost respect. Between Ben and his team along with Catherine’s service (which represent our daughter down to a t) the day went smoothly. We even managed to have some sunshine!
Nothing was rushed and everything was done at our pace, Ben and his team are very professional and really put you at ease.

Ben and his team were fantastic and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Ben absolutely understood and delivered to all our requirements (even a last minute one on the day). His communication throughout was fantastic and demeanour on the day was faultless. This meant that we could focus on the celebration of the life our beloved uncle, and not the logistics. We chose Bungards at random after our father had died because we're not local to Hove but we're so grateful that we did and we would warmly recommend them to anyone. If you would like someone dear to you who has just passed away to be looked after by professional, caring people then you won't regret using them. Ben was calm, kind and efficient and put us at our ease from the very beginning. He saw us through the entire process until the day of the funeral, which ran like clockwork. Ben at Bungards handled the recent funeral of our mum. A friend had asked on Facebook for recommendations for Hove Funeral Directors and Bungards were recommended over everyone else. From the minute I walked in to the minute we said goodbye to mum at the crematorium, Ben dealt with us professionally and compassionately. I can only reiterate what all the other reviewers have said. My family have been using Bungards for in excess of 45 years. They are always very caring and sensitive to the wishes of the family, whilst also being totally professional. I recommended them to a good friend who lost her husband two years ago and Richard handled the service for her in the same helpful way. This year my brother passed away suddenly and it was Ben who dealt with us. I cannot praise him highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble and we met him quite a few times arranging the little details that gave my brother a personal and respectful farewell. The whole family were so impressed with the service we received from start to finish. The little touches of water and mints on a very hot day were much appreciated. Changing the route coming back from the crematorium so that the car was able to park outside our door on the Old Shoreham Road, so that we didn't have to cross a busy main road. Little details that showed such care and consideration. I could go on and on singing Ben's praises (and the rest of the team). I would also like to mention Frances Tulley, the celebrant who performed the service for us. Her guidance, support and suggestions were very much appreciated and between us we were able to give my brother a personal as well as a spiritual send off.

Richard and his team were all first class - compassionate, kind, honest, transparent and made the whole process so much easier at what is always a difficult time. As a family run firm, you always get to speak to them directly and know that they will do precisely what you want, and advise you on things that perhaps you may not have thought of. They were totally respectful and non-judgemental at all times, never pushy or sales-y! Bungards have done both of my parents funerals now and I am very glad that they did. Many thanks for the sensitivity and professionalism that was displayed in handling my family’s two recent funerals.
Despite my mother and aunt’s great ages, at 96 and 98 respectively, it was still a shock and doubly distressing to lose them both within a week of each other. Having to deal with all manner of other practicalities, it was reassuring to know that the business end of their funerals was in good hands. You did not disappoint.
I am the first to criticise bad service but I also give praise when it’s due, which is certainly the case here with you and your team. Your help throughout was very much appreciated

We sadly lost both our elderly parents within 48hr recently the service that Bungard’s supplied from the first collection of our parents to every single detail of the funeral arrangements was caring, considerate, professional and deserving of the highest praise.
To lose one parent is hard enough but to loose both was truly heart-breaking. No one really shops around for an undertaker especially at a time when it is difficult to think straight and make rational decisions. We were so lucky to have found them - we couldn’t have chosen better.
From our very first meeting they made our parents feel special and gave us the reassurance they were in good hands. In the time between their passing and the funeral there assisted diligently with our numerous questions, phone calls etc. They helped with matters completely outside their contract. They didn’t bother us on the phone or in person and just quietly toiled away in the background making sure everything was spot on.
Prior to the funerals their kindness and understanding were in evidence when my brother especially wanted to see our parents for one last time. Their caring attitude and making sure that our parents looked at peace and were wearing certain items made this difficult situation bearable. On the eve of the funeral at our special request they arranged for us as a family to see the coffins and flowers in place. This helped us all greatly and was very much appreciated.
Their recommendation of using the Reverend Christyan James to conduct the service was inspired. He was kind, thoughtful and above all natural and accommodating to all the wishes of our family. Just from one visit to our family home he was able to detect what we were like personally and as a family and how we would like to celebrate our parent’s lives at the service. On the day itself no words can express how grateful we are to him for how the service went and how it was delivered.
On the day of the funeral itself it’s the little touches that were so appreciated, the water and mints offered when you collected us from the house. Everything was 100% perfect.
The service was a moving and fitting tribute to our parents and everyone attending thought the same.
We cannot recommend Bungard Funeral Directors highly enough.
