I studied BSc Environmental Science there a few years ago. I have dealt with many universities since then, and I'm now doing a MSc not too far away, at a university supposedly "better" in UK rankings and I must say that there is something not right about those rankings. Staff at UWE were very inspiring and knowledgeable, after several years I remember some of the lectures as if they were today, laboratory technicians very friendly and generally various staff people really well organized and professional.

The University of the West of England, Bristol is a public research university located in and around Bristol, England. It was founded in 1595. I and Navin Ghorecha visited this UWE-Bristol in April 2013. We visited many departments and liked the way students are learning and implementing what the faculties are teaching....

Avoid this university if you can, I was a first year student who was struggling and I told a lecturer about this, and they couldn’t care less. Leaving was the best decision I ever made and now I’m going to Exeter uni instead next year where they actually support their students. I had really high expectations of this university but it really is not worth going to, there are plenty other better universities out there.

UWE is a really caring university. They helped and supported my son throughout his 4 years there. The staff from tutors to well being team, student advisors have all been very helpful. Without their help and continued support I think my son would have given up. I would definitely recommend this Uni. My son has graduated with a bachelors degree with honours in Forensic science. Thank you UWE for your support. From a parent.

Let's start with GOOD THINGS ( an undergraduate course in CSCT ) Lecturers are good at explaining, especially theory. Fresh lecturers give good importance as to clearing your doubts. Course content and materials are good. There are ample spaces in library for one to study. Examinations are Ok. Good amount of talks by large firms. BAD THING:- The major problem i have been through. One of the cores of CSCT is coding or programming which i feel they are not good at delivering or in fact bad(carelessness). The lecturers who are experienced and been with uni for many years are not enthusiastic about teaching coding to students during practicals, no proper mentoring, neither they are concerned about student's development. I have been through this nightmare and In my case same thing happened after which I did not even bother to even ask for help or doubts to that particular tutor as they were not approachable and i lost motivation in even learning coding, this has affected my learning experience greatly, i am stuck deciding whether i should continue with coding career or not. So if your are not taught well in first year, how will you deal with second and final year on your own? Atleast teach students coding properly so that they are able to do assignments and courseworks on their own. Right from the first year, I was feeling that i had to beg for help from others most of the time. From my experience, the personal tutors also didn't make any efforts to ensure students were happy with learning and that they were supported by their mentors. Now i will have to take a paid separate online course to learn coding properly with a proper mentor as i believe i have wasted my tuition fees here. As an advice i would say that instead of hiring "STAFF WHO ARE JUST CODE EXPERTS, HIRE THOSE WHO ARE GREAT TEACHERS WHO ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT TEACHING AND SHARING THE KNOWLEDGE".

Reason for trip to the uwe was to visit the fruit and veg stall on the campus. Great selection on fruit and veg and only £1 a bowl. Great services and a friendly smile from Dawn and Steve

My experience was of the roundabout before entering the campus. I enjoyed the roundabout thoroughly, but the experience only lasted 7 seconds. The lane markings were clear and concise, and led me on to the correct road. However when exiting towards the M32, please be wary of the build up of dirt on the offside that could cause sudden understeer. Update 13 Oct 2020 The roundabout has now been re-sealed and fresh road markings have been painted. The build up of dirt mentioned above is now gone. Now a 5 star must see attraction in North Bristol This just goes to show how effective reviews can be!

former students need to practise integrity and not make unfounded allegations about health and social work professionals. Loss of integrity is serious and some of your former students lack integrity and they work as 'lawyers' in regulatory discipline. teach your students about compassion and honesty.

After graduating during a pandemic and talking to a friend (who did the same course in Portsmouth, my 2nd choice) I realise how little I was actually taught. There were some absolutely amazing lecturers who really know how to teach, some knowledgeable lecturers who unfortunately can't teach, and then some absolutely appalling "lecturers" who should never be allowed to be left alone. Nothing better than a "lecturer" who when asked a question says "Idk, google it" or laughs at you then walks away, to fall asleep at his desk... Despite being a coding course there was a severe lack of actual coding taught resulting in a percentage of graduates wishing to completely avoid the industry as well as they can. Being a final year student throughout COVID-19 absolutely sucked... almost all staff went on leave at the exact same time and, bar few, completely blanked all communication 2/2 MONTHS BEFORE FINAL DEADLINES. I sent my dissertation supervisor a message 1 month before the deadline asking for help. I never got a response to it to this day, next time I spoke to him was during my final presentation... Bristol is a beautiful city and the nightlife is absolutely awesome, I want to return soon however, left wondering if I would have been better off attending Portsmouth instead. TL;DR: Some great lecturers, some absolute disgraces. Lack of essential coding teaching for a coding course was told to "Just Google It" for answers...

Most universities are a pleasure to commute through on foot or by bike, not UWE! Most of this year that has been loads of construction on the main campus, I pity the poor students living or studying next door to the constant clamour of reversing chimes, drilling and everything else. Likewise the university seems to delight in creating elaborate barriers and roadworks on the main thoroughfares through the campus complete with traffic lights and guards to make sure you don't try and run the lights. I suppose it makes sense that they are trying to splurge all the huge student fees while they can (special props to the vice chancellor who earns comfortably several multiples more then the Prime Minister and claimed over £40,000 in expenses, oh yes £10,000 on chauffeur cars in London, well done sir - I'm sure it enhanced the opportunities available to the University). I suppose there is an argument that the construction work will lead to new world class facilities and all that nonsense, maybe - but I get to review this for how I view it now.

Fantastic campus, with great buildings and facilities. The lectures was really insightful. Their support system for students could be monitored a little better, but overall I enjoyed my time here and would recommend the University to others.

Absolutely horrendous, my daughter got fed up with next door playing loud music until the early hours, politely asked them to turn the music down only to be shouted at by several students and threatened with violence, she hasn't been back since, i have just found out about this and will be reporting it to the police..£2000 lost will seek to claim this money back

Horribly organised, nothing works concerning organisation and IT systems. People would try to help but more often give wrong informations. Only thing I learned so far is to critically assess anything I've been told!

I will always be grateful to the UWE, the English educational system and the people of Bristol. I wouldn't be an international civil servant today without my LL.B studies of 1999. Thank you Rafael Pepiol, Asun Garnham, Janice Pattison and all Faculty members. Attached a picture from the student accommodation property outside Frenchay campus from 1999.
