COVID restrictions are in place and strictly enforced; only paper “surgical” masks are authorized. If you aren’t wearing a surgical mask you will be asked to place the surgical mask over your other mask, depending on the person at the desk, you will be allowed to swap the mask you’re wearing with a surgical mask. They provide surgical masks. Social distancing is encouraged. Lots of parking and the hospital is a short pleasant walk from Ballston. Parking is available, free for the 1st 30 minutes, $5 after that. Everyone was very professional and friendly. The hospital was very clean and well lit. Everything appeared to be well maintained. They would receive a higher rating, but they failed to order discharge meds for my mother as set forth in the discharge instructions resulting in a significant gap in her medication schedule.

Very impressed with everyone on the staff. They worked efficiently and with a smile. It was comforting to feel that there was a system in place for everything. I felt that there was a lot less opportunity for errors. Everyone wants to have confidence that there loved ones are getting the best possible treatment. Thank you! #OutpatientSugery #Urology

I have had two experiences with Virginia Hospital center. My mom spent 3 weeks there receiving and recovering from chemo. The staff was exceptional; attentive, kind, thorough. I felt that my mom was very well cared for. The teams transitioned well and communicated well. Additionally, her room was very nice, with a beautiful view. My other experience was taking a friend to the emergency room for a very scary heart problem. They quickly assessed the problem at intake, recognizing the urgency, and quickly pulled together the team needed to literally save her life. I am so grateful to have this fantastic facility so close.

I woke up on Monday morning last week and had severe abdominal pain. I was reluctant to go to the ER when I visited my pcp, but I went to Virginia Hospital Center reluctantly. To my pleasure they got me into a room fairly quickly, 2 hours, usually I have had to wait much longer at other emergency rooms. Once in the room, they got me in for a CT scan in an hour and a half. The doctor told me they would have to perform an appendectomy since my appendix was swollen and growing rapidly. They got me into surgery before 10 pm and I was out by 11pm. The nurses were very good and had great bedside manners and the OR doctor was very nice. I got treated with wonderful care and the most amazing manners. I hope to get this treatment whenever I have to go to the hospital again rather it be here or at another hospital in another state. I wholly recommend their ER for urgent health matters to anyone in NoVa!

My my most recent experience with the outpatient lab was perfect. My doctor ordered work in the morning. I went immediately. Staff was uniformly wonderful. No wait! My results from urine and blood work was emailed to me and doctor by late afternoon of same day. Perfect experience.

Was there for major surgery in April. I was generally pleased with VHC. Getting there from the west on 66 stinks. Parking there is a nightmare.

I am actually writing this from the Recovery and Wellness Unit. This is their version of rehab. I am an alcoholic and was thankfully given a bed but not by the hospital because I needed it. Kaiser had to step in and force them to give me a bed because I almost died of alcohol poisoning. Every step of this experience has been an uphill battle. Please understand, at first...I LOVED this place. The nurses were the ones who convinced me to stay and the other patients solidified my resolve to see it through. The problem lies with the nurses and the counselors. In order to convince me this was the right place for me, the nurses (though stern) showed me compassion and made it seem as though they truly cared about my well-being. They used phrases like, "Think about your husband," and, "Wouldn't you want the same thing for him if the situation were reversed?" I honestly believed they wanted to see me get healthy. Then...my second review by Kaiser came through and they had approved me for the last two weeks. The change in the way I was treated (and am currently being treated) was immediate and palpable. I went from being a patient who needed help, to a bothersome inmate in a split second. It is abundantly clear to me that this was about money, NOT my well-being. A nurse whom I trusted made fun of my eyes calling them "bulging" (a trigger from my past), my medication now comes an hour late during the day and two hours late at night, the stern nurse who helped convince me to stay won't speak to me and when she does, her voice is filled with condescension and disdain. I have never complained or caused any type of disruption. If anything, I've done everything in my power to help everyone around me including the staff. A week into this I said, "I don't think I ever want to leave." Now? If they kicked me out tomorrow I'd be totally cool with it. Do not come here expecting compassion and genuine concern. Come here knowing that the staff is here to do a job and acquire more money for the hospital. I am going to see my program through, but not because I trust anyone on the staff...because I can't trust myself quite yet. EDIT I should also add that they are having me repeat day one at the end of my stay...NOT because I need it but because (and I'm quoting the stern nurse Pam) "That's the most Kaiser would pay for." Meaning that extra day has zero value for my recovery...it's just one more day that the hospital receives a check for.

I don’t live near VA Hospital Center, so I only go there when it’s something serious like surgery, MRI, CT scan, etc. I go to my local hospital when I need to see a doctor for something simple, but when I need a professional answer, a quality surgeon or doctor, I go to VA Hospital Center. I was born with one kidney and have always health problems, been to countless hospitals throughout my life and have a good perspective on what a competent medical staff looks like. This is the only hospital where I’ve ever felt 100% safe and not judged or discriminated. Consistently...over the past five years, from the point I walk through their doors, the customer service is a wonderful experience. I always get a sense that everyone working there enjoys what they do and is very passionate about providing the very best care. I feel like other hospitals only care about making money, rushing you and having a bill in your mailbox before you get home. Compassion, welcoming, competent, trust, follow through, genuine, sense of urgency, are the words that comes to mind when I reflect back on my past five years visiting VA Hospital Center.

1. FACILITY/BUILDING - Its a pretty nice facility for the most part. VERY CLEAN!!!! Depending on what you need or where you're going in the building, it can be a nice walk to get there. 2. STAFF - ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! They treated us extremely nice. Made sure we were comfortable, gave us anything we asked for and was always, ALWAYS polite. Took excellent care of us and our child 3. FOOD - The food was actually very good! Of course you have to put your own salt and pepper, that's at any hospital. But it was cooked very well and tasty nonetheless!! 4. PARKING - Small spots unfortunately and depending on where you need to go in the building, you may have a long walk. Yes you have to pay but they may give you a free day pass which we did receive.

The registration person was the reason I scored so highly. The ppl I saw from signing in to the person taking my blood all made me feel like they LOVE their jobs and made me want to be there and enjoy it along with them. I love that feeling!! Give them all raises!! It's hard to find ppl who exudes positivity and genuine love for what they do! Kudos to all the lab workers!!

My husband was brought to Virginia Hospital on January 31, 2021 with a heart attack. The medical examination was performed within two hours. Then Dr. Khurana installed 2 catheters for him. He saved my husband's life. The second appeal was scheduled on April 13, 2021. This time I was with my husband. At the Virginia Hospital Cardiac Cath Lab again, Dr. Khurana performed a cardiac catheterization procedure. All service was at a high level. Friendly and attentive nurses, they answered all our questions. Thanks John and Koan (possible names error, but all the staff is great). Everywhere is clean and beautiful. Lunch was delicious. This unpleasant procedure was pleasant thanks to the staff of the Hospital. Thank you for the great service!

The staff at VHC are all excellent!! My personal experiences with the level of care and concern could not have been better. I am not a resident of VA and drive more than 60 miles to all of my doctor appointments regularly, at least 3-4 times a month and sometimes more. I am extremely pleased and believe that the drive is worth it and will continue my care at VHC.

One of the nurse lost my daughter personal belongings with her phone and earbuds brand new clothes and shoes, I had call the hospital every day asking for my daughter belongs and no one help me they just pull me on hold and the. After 30 minutes waiting they just handed me, this is so sad and unprofessional because we have to pay the bill on time but when something happens no ones knows nothing.

I called the number because I had a few questions and the phone representative that answered the was named Michelle and the way she spoke to me was uncalled for. Customer service is a very important thing when it comes to healthcare if someone is in pain and sick they like to be treated with the same respect that they give you when they talk to you when they are already frustrated because they are in pain. I never actually went to this location I was not seen so I cannot give you any information on how the healthcare representatives were but the first person that I spoke to was named Michelle and she will be the reason why I will not use my money at their hospital just because of the customer service that I was given off of the first impression of their hospital.

My fiance had a minor surgery at the PACU. She has Cerebral Palsy so things are always tricky with her body. And there were complications no one could have predicted or avoided. But the nurses and everyone else were absolutely amazing and made the whole process so much better. Christy P. was especially helpful but literally everyone we came in contact with was helpful and friendly. No one ever acted too busy to help or ignored us. We couldn't have asked for a more helpful staff.

I have been in the ER since 7:45 am. I have seen the doctor and had x ray taken - that is it. I have not seen anyone . I contacted the nurses station about an update about 40 minutes ago and again about 20 minutes ago to ask for water. Nothing. I have been a patient for 26 years, but this is my last visit .

The woman who set me up ( intake )to get my lab work in the outpatient lab (in the small building)was kind, professional and personally reached out about a test I left waiting on to confirm it’s need. That kind of personal reach out is unusual and recognized my concern so thoughtfully. I came on Thursday,March 4 around 1:30 -2, My name is Perri Iger -Silversmith. I drive from Maryland to see Dr Thomas Rakowski who has kept my kidneys stable for over 30 years.

Virginia Hospital Center was at one-time the premier hospital in Arlington Virginia, unfortunately in the past for years I have seen firsthand Arlington go from an amazing hospital to one that I wouldn't want to take my dying enemy too. The emergency room doctors think they know better then patient's actual Dr, they also think that a caregiver and medical team are not important enough to visit a patient in the emergency room during a time of Crisis. Virginia Hospital Center is as the rest of Arlington starting to cater to the yuppies and those that only have money to the rest of the Arlington County residents it's a big screw you. And please don't be a patient that has to be in a room by yourself for any reason because they will make you feel like you're a leper when they ignore you for hours on end, close your door to shut you off from the rest of the people and refused to answer your calls for help. Virginia Hospital Center congratulations on being the worst hospital in Arlington

The medical services and advice I receive at VHC are consistently very good. My frustrations are all administrative: challenges getting an appointment scheduled, difficulties getting proper billing with updated insurance, etc.The worst has been wait times for my MRIs. My last MRI got bumped up an hour without me being notified, leading to a scramble by staff and nurses when I checked in. Last year, I was in the waiting area for four hours for the same routine MRI, only to learn when I went to the front desk that I’d been forgotten. Wound up spending nine hours at VHC for what is usually a four hour process.

I want to preface this review by stating that I know how burnt out everyone is in healthcare, and the fact that any worker there can still stand and be pleasant is a feat in and of itself. I also want to preface that every nurse, admissions person, blood drawer, PA Maira and Dr. Goldstein have all been excellent, kind, and caring. But my last experience at this hospital is where the negative review is coming from. Long story short, I had an outpatient medical procedure the day prior that went well at the time, but I had a delayed bad and rare reaction confirmed by the performing doctor. It got bad enough that I had to get an ambulance to the ER and the paramedics called ahead. I told the ER doctor what I was experiencing and what the previous doctor had said was the cause, and it was immediately dismissed as a possibility before any testing. I was shocked to say the least, as I was literally giving the reason why I was there and it was shot down. I got a 10 second exam, an x ray ordered, and a nurse to check blood pressure, but I could tell at the time this doctor had made up his mind that I was gonna be sent home and was just going through the motions. The standard blood work ordered at triage came back abnormal and the results were not discussed with me (I only saw them because of the patient portal app). When the x ray came back negative, the doctor came back and said he was giving me Xanax for anxiety and again dismissed the possibility of why I was actually there when I started asking questions (no explanation as to why). They gave me a Xanax and rushed me out so that they could have the bed free for what I guess they deemed to be a “real patient”. The Xanax did not help by the way, and things have only progressively gotten worse for me health wise. Also, on the discharge paperwork that I got in the portal, it shows that the doctor did a complete physical exam, which is total BS. Half of those tests and results listed in the paperwork were not done. If there is one other thing I cannot stand, is being told “if this happens again, or if we missed anything, come back”. That phrase stays with me for a number of reasons. #1, having to go through everything again when I’m already there (another insurance claim, intake, waiting, more money, you name it). #2 I am there already with a serious issue and they can’t even wait to see if their “treatment” is working or check for other things or even provide a better explanation as to why this and that was ruled out. Now I am stuck waiting on seeing specialists because I cannot trust this hospital to handle my issue. On a side note, I want to express my sheer horror at how a family was treated in the waiting room by the security guard. A woman came into the ER in terrible pain and was accompanied by her son, who was not 18, so due to rules at the time, he couldn’t be there. Instead of this being explained to them nicely, he was barrated and yelled at, until he left, and his mother (who could not speak English well), didn’t know what was happening. Another one of her sons came in who claimed to be 18 and was also yelled at (even after confirming by checking his ID).

Without getting into medical details, I can say that it is one of the better hospitals in the area if you have to be admitted as a patient. It is part of the Mayo clinic, the doctors are good, and the food is good. Visitors are restricted to one designated person who is allowed to visit due to Covid at the moment, so that sucks, but at least they are allowing some visitors. Visiting hours are from 2-8 PM. You can order dinner to have with your favorite patient for $8 (the guest's meal is $8, the patient's meal is covered), and there are a lot of food choices. They are very accommodating about food allergy issues, which I appreciate. Definitely try the chocolate chunk cookies.

In dealing with a TIA event, the followup appointments have been very difficult to get. When dealing with a patient who had a mini stroke, you would think priority would be made to determine the cause and to prevent from happening again. However, I’m met with appointments months and weeks later. Hope I don’t die waiting for an appointment because there is zero sense of urgency.

Thank you Traci for being excited with me when things became clear and providing comic relief when it was needed. Thank you Mimi for your soothing voice when I was faced with sever pain at 2 in the morning. Thank you to Ravender for sharing his smile through his mask. And to all the other people on the short stay floor who I didn't mention by name, you made my stay comfortable and comforting knowing I was in good hands and had nothing to fear. So glad I came here and that I had all of you wonderful humans to look out for me.

I recently transported a non family member to the (Rehab Center for Alcohol) and she stayed there for 28 days and on Monday, I returned to the hospital and picked her up and drive her home to Waldorf MD. The Hospital Security Staff are excellent and the Security Officer ( Johnny Glowe) was very nice and greeted us with a"Good Morning"and went off on his routine security run. When he returned, he was talking about Covid-19 and I said that my oldest brother a retired Air Force Major had tested Positive for Covid-19 and spent (98 days) at Bridgepoint Rehabilitation Center in DC. Officer Glowe, said to me to wish my brother, a safe recovery and I appreciated that comment.
