Lovely caring staff. I went there yesterday night and everyone was so helpful. I couldn't thank them more for all the help that I've received and with no waiting too.

My 3 year fell and cut his head open last night. We drove straight there. We were seen within 5 minutes, head glued & they even had a little bear for him to take home. Thank you so much for your excellent care at this challenging time!

Terrible attitude towards patients at 4pm, Sunday 28th March. Followed all the correct assessment procedures by going through the online 111 website carefully. I was told specifically to go to the minor injuries dept there, a 16 mile round trip. On arrival a woman spoke to me through the intercom only, about personal details, making me feel very unwelcome. Eventually she came out and very abruptly said there's nothing she can do because I hadn't had 'an accident' (111 told me to go there with a developing pain!). She was really off hand, completely unsympathetic and didn't give any suggestion of what to do next. Absolutely rude, unprofessional and astonishing reception to get as a patient in significant pain.

Goes there for scan (what i was told by phone) waiting 30 minutes to get 30 seconds check with hand and being informed that is not emergency. What a waste of time.

It seems unfair that so many reviews for Abingdon Community Hospital are criticising the minor injuries service when they have accessed it incorrectly. It is NOT a GP drop in service and if you turn up without a GP appointment you should expect to be turned away, particularly during the pandemic, if you have come expecting to see one. The service has been around for a long time now and people need to respect it. I accessed it today and, as always, they were professional, courteous and kind. It's a shame there isn't a reply from the NHS to correct the impression given by unfair reviews.

My good friend went here for tightness in the chest and ended up crying on her way back. I’m a medical student myself and understand how scary it is to ring up medical professionals (Especially when you suffer with anxiety) but I also understand you get many people who are time wasters however, we are in a pandemic for god's sake no one wants to waste 40 quid on taxis for a five-minute check up with an unprofessional doctor. Sort it out!

Had to go here 3 times within the past week, the first was an appointment at 6pm where the first night they left it 1 hour 25 mins just to have my appointment then to be told the xray had closed so they couldnt send me to it till the following day so i had to comeback the next evening to get it looked at to which they xrayed the wrong parts to my foot so have had to go back after contacting my gp and 111 where the paramedic told me a 6pm appointment to get an xray to which they have given me over an hour and a half wait again just to be seen so the xray will be closed, steer clear the receptionist is useless the doctors sit around and just let you wait go to the JR for a better service and timing

Why call 911 (None emergency service) if they refer you to out of hours GP who talks to you like a child and makes you feel like you are wasting time. The NHS encourages people to call the 911 before booking a GP appointment that often wastes your time and theirs. This hospital need a little catch up lesson on how they speak to the general public...

Receptionists act like you're wasting their time and any request to see someone is simply putting them out completely. If you want an X-ray don't waste your time going, they cannot be bothered. Go first thing in the morning and the x-ray will be "broken". Go in the afternoon and they'll make you sit for hours waiting until it's too late to have an x-ray and send you to the JR. If by some miracle you get an x-ray, they can't do casts anyway so off you go to the JR. Even if you arrive shortly after they open, when there is absolutely no one else waiting and you can see staff sitting around doing nothing, you'll still have a 2 hour wait. This has happened multiple times now, just go to the JR and save yourself the bother.

I've been here three times now. Sometimes you have to wait a little or get bumped behind more urgent cases, but the staff have always been helpful and friendly, even if busy. Don't just drop in here if you're ill rather than injured, call 111 instead.

Called 111 and was asked to see a GP at 12:40, after a very long wait, at 14:00 we were taken to a nurse. She confirmed what the 111 GP suspected but didn't prescribe us the medication. We were sent to the JR where they could/did prescribe it. If there's a next time, I think we'll skip this place and go straight to the JR.

Doctors think we are wasting their time. So rude and not polite. I understand they have a lot of patients, why make an excuse been a doc in the first place. Saving lives is more important. If they were so eager to brush you off so quickly and ignore your call. I have called 111 and this is nearest to my area and they concern is to get seen by doc this midnight. But the doctor wants me to go away and visit the GP on Monday and wait in line.

Thank you for seeing me so quickly at a busy time. And thank you to the staff who gave a thorough, caring and positive review of my situation and got me the treatment that I needed. I can't say I would recommend it as a place to visit, because I hope that no one needs to go to hospital at all, but if you have a medical problem and a choice, this is a good place to go.

Came in to A/E with a shoulder/collarbone injury. Suspected broken bone as referred by SnowCentre in Hemel Hempstead. X-Rayed within an hour and received good care, professional advice and kindness. Special thanks and recognition to Alex and his knowledgeable female counterpart.

Called for some advice regarding my daughter and the lady on the phone found this very funny whilst talking to her colleague about the fact I need advice! Felt like an inconvenience to her doing her job and answering the phone! Not very professional in my opinion.

After 6 flights in a week including 2 long haul, my wife went to the A&E with a painful leg - concerned about DVT. Also a family history. They weren't interested. A slightly stroppy receptionist told her they weren't a walk-in centre & she had to have an appointment or a referral from 111. Since when for an A&E!? A doc walked past & said the thigh was not a normal place to have a DVT so go home & take paracetamol. It didn't start in her thigh. Yesterday it was her calf. Nice one Abingdon - the NHS continually encourages people to get checked out...& then make you make them feel like they did something wrong & are wasting your time.

Quite superb each time we’ve visited. It’s NOT an A&E, so I’m not sure what the other reviewers have in mind when they post negative comments (I.e. call an ambulance if you’re collapsing, go to A&E urgently if you have plastic in your eye...

I phoned 111 when I was having an asthma attack in the night and my inhaler wasn’t working, was told to go to Marcham Road MIU to see an out of hours doctor there. She wasn’t very professional and was quite abrupt, told me that my blood pressure was normal and that as a result they couldn’t do anything. Said the asthma attack might be viral and in which case could last up to 3 weeks. I told her every breath was a struggle and she said there was nothing they could do. The next morning when it was even worse I went to see my own doctors who confirmed it was a chest infection and put me on antibiotics and steroids. Unhelpful, unfriendly and just in a rush to get me out of there.

My Aunty was admitted here before Christmas after spending time at the JR. The staff here are incredible and did everything they could for my Aunty. Every time I called the staff where happy to help, answer questions in a friendly and approachable way. I don't think she wanted to go home after the wonderful service here. Thank you!

Not a fan. Bought in after a being knocked off my pushbike by a car. Wouldn't give me any pain relief, told me not to go to Tesco to get any because they would be seeing me soon. Didn't actually see me for three hours. Three hours of pain when they could have just said "pop out and buy some paracetamol". I can see if you have a very minor injury it could be a good alternative to the GP. Went here because didn't think it was serious enough for A&E. Wish I had just gone there instead. At least give people an idea of how long they will have to wait rather than stringing them along. Plus you have to pay for parking now and they have redone the car park so there are much fewer spaces

Took my VERY sick other half to the center at 3am on a Tuesday morning. The place was deserted. Called for help as he collapsed on the floor. Receptionist, I can only assume she was as a nurse or health professional would not be so uncaring, asked what the problem was. I explained and said could we see a Doctor. Was asked 'How long have you lived in the UK?' My Other Half has an accent and was asking for help and trying to answer questions and it was assumed I was also not from the UK. Anyway, was told as I hadn't called 111 they wouldn't be able to help us, no-one was in the place. It was just us, the Dr and the lady in reception. The lady then went to speak to the Dr after telling me 'Don't touch anything as we don't want the germs'. She came back said the Dr WOULD see us BUT we would have a LONG wait. When asked how long.....'Very long'. Again the place was empty. I could see empty bays, empty beds etc. Decided I couldn't wait as by then my boyfriend was in and out of consciousness and needed help RIGHT NOW. So I carried him to the car and off to John Ratcliffe where he got AMAZING treatment despite being 'foreign' and was told lucky he came in when he did as he was on the brink of organ failure due to severe dehydration from Norovirus. I'm sure there are rules and steps to be followed BUT when someone is that ill and needs help surely no Dr could refuse even just an anti-sickness medicine would have helped!

Very friendly staff, efficient service and very easy to get to. It also offers 30 minutes free parking which is very useful when attending the Minor Injuries Unit.

Yesterday, I phoned the Abingdon Minor Injuries Unit to ask whether or not I was a candidate for the service regarding the symptoms I was experiencing with my left eye. It was irritated, painful and the vision blurry. The symptoms had worsened after they began on Thursday. I could no longer drive as the left vision had become so impaired. I told all of this to the woman on the phone and I mentioned that my husband thought he saw something white under my left eyelid. Noting this, I asked if an under-eyelid stye could cause this type of problem. I feel that as soon as the operator heard the word 'stye', she felt I was no longer a candidate for the service, despite my symptoms. She informed me that the wait was 3.5 hours and they wouldn't treat me if it was a stye, but that if I felt there was something in my eye, then they would treat me. Yet, how would I know? This was my very question--I had no idea what was going on with my eye, hence why I needed treatment. I felt very put off by the idea of a 3.5-hour wait to only be turned away. She advised me to call 111, but told me that they were also very busy (seemingly implying that I was a time-waster). I called 111 directly afterward and spoke with the operator, noting the same information. Likewise, when he heard the word 'stye', he seemingly switched off and only spoke to a nurse when I persisted, given that my vision was totally impaired; yet, he and the nurse agreed that I was non-urgent and I should book an appointment with my GP's office this week. I ended up going to A&E and when the A&E doctor heard that both 111 and the MIU turned me away, he was livid. Thankfully, the A&E doctor took me very seriously and he found an on-call ophthalmologist who discovered a piece of plastic embedded in my eye. He noted that the longer it remained in my eye, the more damage it would have caused. There, thankfully, is only a slight abrasion, which he said, with the prescribed ointment, would heal within five days. I remain aghast that sudden visual impairment and pain were not seen as urgent by 111 or the minor injuries unit. While the woman at minor injuries told me they would see me if I felt there was something in my eye, she put me off entirely by making me feel that if I were wrong about it, I would have waited for 3.5 hours for nothing. This all being said, I am so grateful to the doctors at the JR who were amazing.
