Used to sleep here as a youth at the age of 21 next door called porch light. Now I can see online where there isn't an upfront age restriction. They say in this program " Alba Collaborative" you have to be 9~17 but it doesn't state the entire program! So my girlfriend claims to be 23 and I am 35...do you see a problem without open age restriction postings or people being direct!?

I was attacked outside of New Avenues for Youth by a bunch of younger people who actually claimed to go to New Avenues for Youth. They were crowding an entire sidewalk and laying everywhere to the point where you couldn't even walk down the sidewalk and they left trash EVERYWHERE. I stopped and asked them why they were behaving so slovenly and that if they changed their lives they could possibly improve themselves. Many Well, they all ganged up on me. I was not intimidated. I was outside New Avenues for Youth. This black kid, about 5' 5" wearing a yellow zip up sweatshirt type jacket with dreads in the group picked up a 50 pound steel sign and threw it at my back when I wasn't looking. It cut open my leg and my thigh, my back is black and blue today and cut. They also SPIT on me! The sign also bruised my elbow, gashed my leg and cut my calf and I got blood on my nice shorts. I called police right after. I followed the guy who attacked me while I was on the phone with the operator to make sure the police knew where he was. The operator literally told that if I continued to follow my assaulter to make sure they were caught she would not send the police. She FORCED me to let him get away. I honestly do not know what's going on in this city but I'm sick of it... I also want to point out that one of the people in the group STOLE THE CELLPHONE from a man, a RANDOM PERSON that was just walking down the street with his phone out. This is insane and New Avenues for Youth needs to VET the people it helps to make sure it is not facilitating the DELINQUENCY of psychotic adults. In addition, what i think is so insanely pernicious and truly a sign of the serious issues going on with our culture, some of them tried to tell me I SHOULD NOT call the police because the main assaulter was BLACK and by me calling the police after HE ATTACKED ME would be essentially RACIST and that I would put a target on the backs of people who looked like him?!?! Yeah, I don't think so. I will NEVER feel guilty for doing what is right and I won't be guilt tripped by these horrible people. What in the heck is wrong with these kids!?! When I was young I had living situation problems and I personally used the resources at places like New Avenues for Youth to help myself. I actually worked hard to improve myself. People these days seem to live in a perpetual state of being a pathetic victim of the world and WANT to live in squalor in filth. Some of these kids BRAGGED about making $300 a day and still using New Avenues for Youths resources, some claimed to be going to college and getting student loans and others said they were wards of the state. All of those people DID NOT NEED the resources at New Avenues for Youth yet New Avenues for Youth does NOTHING to vet the people who use their service to make sure the people using it ACTUALLY NEED IT! Another thing, when I called and complained the MANAGER at New Avenues for Youth was impolite and condescending on the phone. No clue why she was like that. DISGUSTING!

Oh man new avenues has helped me out a lot from food to General documents they've helped me out through a lot of things and I hope that this company lives on to be more than just that to just help people in need with homelessness and get them a place to live. This company only serves the people of youth 16 through 21 years old and I am so glad that I found this place sooner or else I would have been in a homeless shelter or on the streets so thank you new avenues for changing my wife forever.

This place probably helped to save my life when I was a teen. I was a client in 2000, and at the time, a national missing person. My worker, and the drop in center, made such a difference. I don’t know that it’s even still the same organization, or if the services they offer are anything like they were 20 years ago, but I hope they offer all the ones I benefited from and more. Thanks, NAFY.

New Avenues for Youth is an amazing place. The drop in center provides meals and laundry services for those that are homeless youth and are trying to get their lives back on track. They also have showers available and councilors to speak with. Contact them today if you need help or know of someone who does.

All the day staff here for drop in services are very welcoming and caring. The staff meet each individuals needs as the resources are available. The program has very good employees with a family focused relationship bond with each HYC youth. They actually listen to the youth an engage in trusting communication. Thanks staff for your hard work in support through this difficult time of the lives of young homeless youth an to give them hope and encourage us to do good work and to be great leaders of those in the HYC program. Outstanding facility!????

I have volunteered with New Avenues multiple times. They are a great place for homeless or struggling youth who just want to get off the street for a free lunch or learn interview skills. They offer a huge range of services that can help with getting you from begging on the street to employed and in a house.

This particular program has helped my son and you're still continuing to help my son who decided to run away from home at the age of 17 and return to Oregon at the age of 18. They have helped provide him with shelter and get him started on the course to a better life I am eternally grateful for this organization helping the youth in our city

Only 4 Stars because I was totally crushing on Case manager/Point person Chelsea(spelled it right??) otherwise I’d have given it a 1 star as well. Lolz lemme stop. Ok fine at least I admit it???? Seriously tho the other star was docked because they are affiliated with PorchLight and StreetLight shelters and those places were awful. Otherwise okay place with decent food. Had to flee to Seattle after breaking a window in porchlight (I was the victim to begin with tho) and obtaining financial information about Janus youth services that could turn very profitable for me very quickly. Unwanted by y’all program but also unwanted by the police (google “unwanted fugitives” and you’ll understand what I’ve been up to in multiple states). Anyways bye y’all.

Services like this are a lifesaver and are what make Portland exceptional. Besides food, showers, and a spot out of the weather, there are programs for job-seekers as well as art-oriented events, including a semi-regular poetry group. Prospective students can acquire official documentation showing their homeless status for the purposes of filing for their FAFSA/Pell Grant. NAFY is a source of stability, comfort, and opportunities without which many youth would struggle needlessly to escape their situation. And for the ones who are comfortable for now with an existence on the streets, they would no doubt be spending their time in areas that are much less safe, and with no oversight. Enough years in the wrong company, and a person might find themselves _unable_ to pursue a conventional lifestyle even should they want to. NAFY helps keep that door open for those who might later tire of the double-edged "freedom" of the streets.

I feel this place is discriminating, the staff are rude and when I talk about how I'm needing help.. they all completely ignore my requests. I'm a Hispanic male.. I think that's why.
